I'll be including this in the column this week for sure. I strongly recommend taking advantage of this one. If you've never read an issue of WRITE or DRAW, I'd go with one of those.

TWOMORROWS PUBLISHING ANNOUNCES FREE MAGAZINE DAY

In conjunction with the comic industry’s upcoming Free Comic Book
Day, TwoMorrows Publishing (publisher of the comic industry’s top
historical and “how-to” magazines) is offering an opportunity for
readers to try a TwoMorrows magazine free-of-charge.

On Saturday, May 6, anyone who visits the TwoMorrows website
(www.twomorrows.com) can request any in-stock issue of BACK ISSUE,
ALTER EGO, DRAW!, or WRITE NOW!, and it will be mailed to them at no
cost the following week. A special banner atop the home page will
link to the Free Magazine Page where selections can be made.

“The goal is to expose new readers to our amazing line of magazines,”
said TwoMorrows publisher John Morrow, “so they’ll in turn start
ordering them at their local comics shop, or subscribe. But I also
want to reward our current, extremely loyal readership. My hope is
that existing TwoMorrows customers will consider trying a magazine
they may not already be familiar with, rather than using this
opportunity to fill a hole in their run of back issues. But however
anyone chooses to take advantage of this giveaway, I’m just happy
they’re visiting our site, where they’ll have a chance to learn about
other new items we have coming up, including our newest magazine
launch, ROUGH STUFF.”

TwoMorrows plans to make this an annual event if response is
favorable. “I wanted to participate in Free Comic Book Day, but it
wasn’t financially feasible for a smaller publisher like us to create
and print a special publication to give away through comics shops,”
said Morrow. “But for the cost of shipping copies of our existing
magazines to individual readers, I’m confident we’ll reach a lot of
people who may have heard of our mags, but haven’t actually seen a
copy if their local shop doesn’t carry it regularly. It’s a win-win
situation in my mind; retailers stand to pick up new customers, and
we’ll grow our circulation. I encourage other small publishers to
consider trying a similar scenario at their websites.”

All of TwoMorrows’ magazines put special emphasis on featuring
interviews with top names of comics past and present, and plenty of
rare and unseen art. The line is unique, in that each is helmed by a
top industry professional. BACK ISSUE, edited by former DC Comics
editor Michael Eury, celebrates comic books of the 1970s, 1980s, and
today through a variety of recurring and rotating departments. ALTER
EGO is an all-new revival by legendary Marvel and DC Comics writer
Roy Thomas of his 1960s ‘zine, focusing on Golden and Silver Age
comics and creators. The 2006 Eisner Award-nominated DRAW! Magazine
is a pro-level “how-to” magazine on comics, cartooning, and
animation, edited by Action Planet’s Mike Manley. And WRITE NOW! is
edited by Spider-Man writer Danny Fingeroth, and gives interviews and
tutorials by top writers and editors in comics, animation, and sci-fi.

TwoMorrows’ other magazine, The Jack Kirby Collector, isn’t included
in this Free Magazine offer, for practical reasons. Morrow noted,
“Like Kirby’s imagination, the Jack Kirby Collector is huge; its
colossal 10” x 14” tabloid size makes it awfully expensive to package
and ship, so we’re unfortunately not able to offer it as a giveaway
this year. But I encourage readers to check out the available issues
online, and see why it’s our longest-running magazine.”

Since 1994, TwoMorrows Publishing has been focused on bringing new
life to comics fandom through its award-winning magazines, trade
paperbacks, and DVDs, encompassing a wide variety of pop culture
interests.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Free Magazine Day has started a little early. If you want to beat the rush, you can go ahead and order now.

Some of you may be experiencing difficulties in placing your order. I've been asked by John Morrow, the publisher of TwoMorrows, to pass along this message:

Our server is overwhelmed by the tremendous response to Free Magazine Day, after receiving several hundred orders in the first couple of hours. We're working to address the situation, and will be extending the offer through Sunday, so please try back again during non-peak hours (after 5pm, for instance), or on Sunday once things have died down a little. Thanks for your patience and support!

Best regards,
John Morrow

I didn't take advantage of the free offer, but I did just pick up the current issue of Back Issue. I can't wait to check it out.

Yay! Glad to hear we have at least one happy ending.

Thanks for the update!

Deathstroke -- For shame on you! Don't miss out next year, if they do the same thing.

Sent media mail, it wouldn't be too bad. I think it would be about a buck and change, probably less than $1.50 per mag. I'll check next time a comp copy arrives. ;-)

In all honesty, I don't think that I've ever seen any of the magazines that are being published.

Wasn't there an article on The Pulse recently that maybe was from Back Issue magazine about Butch Guice. I read that article and thought that it would be an interesting magazine to read.

Butch Guice did an article in the most recent issue of BACK ISSUE about MICRONAUTS or ROM. Or, at least, he was interviewed for it.

I have to admit that The Pulse has fallen completely off my radar at this point. I haven't clicked over there in a loooong time.

I click on Pulse and Newsarama daily, but I mostly read Newsarama between the two of them.

I stick with CBR and Newsarama for all my news needs. After that, it all gets rather repetitive.

I use the blogosphere for opinions and the wacky fun stuff.

I don't really read blogs of any sort, save Peter David's. Well, and yours of course.

Believe it or not, I constantly forget about CBR News, being so tied into getting to the forums.

I have to remind myself of CBR news sometimes, too, just because of the layout on the front page and being a columnist. I always pay more attention to the columns. It's a shame because we have a heck of a lot of unique content on our front page in the news column. It just doesn't stand out enough, I don't think. I think Jonah is working on that as part of the next design of CBR, whenever that happens. . .

There needs to be a way to better balance the "magazine" nature of this web site, you know?

I don't know anything about site design so I can't speak to any of that. I just know that I usually just click to the forums and forget about the front page.

For me, I usually hit Newsarama & CBR in the morning as I'm checking my work email.

After I get to work, then I hit the CBR forums, Comicscontinuum & The Pulse. If I've got time, then it's just random lurking on the Millarworld & Image boards.

Btw, anyone seen the new Wizarduniverse site yet? Clicky here: http://wizarduniverse.com/
Does it seem like they are taking aim at Newsarama? Or are they tired of their exclusives being spoiled online before they see print?
