Okay, so its clear that Brooks seems to have a bit of a thing at the moment for appropriating/ripping off (you decide!) past covers.
What do you think of this? Do you think its a lack of imagination or is he just reappraising (maybe) forgotton covers.
Personally, I like it, it gives me a (small) kick trying to figure out what cover he is paying homage to.

27 is a New Mutants cover. 28 is DoFP.
Someone else can post them if they like. I can't be arsed.
22 and 24 anyone?

I like this homage.
Agreed. Terms like "appropriating" or "ripping off" isn't really fair.
It's simply a homage to those classic covers. :)

Sentinal K, gr8 thread. I love the homages too.
This is what happens when you run out of original ideas.

He's paying homage... look at #26's cover, if he was really lifting stuff he wouldn't do one of the most famous X-Men covers.

Honestly, I've really only started enjoying the 'homage' covers since Medina started doing them (the New Mutants one with the graves and the DoFP were really nice IMO).
They're fun for now, but I hope to see some original covers sooner rather than later.

Paco's covers for 28 and 29 are original - 28 was just released in the July solicits. And just for the record, 20 and 24 (that amazing Cessily cover) are original Brooks covers.

I appreciate the homages. They're part of the creative team's effort to legitimize these characters. It's an admirable plan.
Instead of simply using characters to tell the story-du-jour or following the adventures of whatever character lights up Wizard's "hot" list, they are committing to these characters as the next generation of X-Men. I respect that. For too long, we have simply mired through pointless stories of new mutant characters simply because creators or fans are turned on, without having any specific plan for the characters or their role in the larger X-Men mythos.
In addition to these homage covers, they have taken the characters out of their safe environment and pitted them against classic X-Men antagonists such as Rev. Stryker.
I just don't enjoy the particular characters they've chosen to commit to, the writing, or the art. (Sorry.)

I like all the covers. Most of them were new to me though, because I have never read some of those older issues. Some of them I picked up on though. Besides, Borooks is one of my favorite new artist. What happened to him by the way?

I enjoy these homage covers alot as well. My only issue is that the original artists don't get a call-out in the signature at the bottom. IMO it should say "after Byrne" or "after Adams" etc. That is what is often done for homage covers, no?

I think he should put the original artist name on it, but I can see why he didn't.
One they are all classic covers and some were major issues and second the might have wanted to give people the fun of finding them. I know I for one will alway be wonder if this cover is in homage to another one or not.
And the bottom line is Brooks can flat out draw.
Hey Pete you made it past 40. :D

brooks did it for the cover to x-men unlimited 9, which was a homage to byrne's uncanny x-men 142.

good job pointing this out Sentinel K. I only noticed a few of the covers, but there seems to be a lot.
New X-men is a great book and the covers are interesting to look at. I read in the letters page about a guy who got hooked on New X-Men after seeing the #24's Cessily cover. He now bought the entire series and loves it...all thanks to that issue catching his eye. cool stuff

Unfortunately, one that does have an attribution to the prior artist gets it wrong. The homage to Uncanny X-Men #210 says "after B.W.S." (Barry Windsor Smith), when the cover was actually by John Romita, Jr.
