I'm sitting at my computer drinking coffee and enjoying my week off. Being a teacher may mean lots of daily aggravation, but man, are the days off sweet.
This is the first week in awhile that I've really looked forward to what's coming out. Its a good week with tons of Marvel stuff that I want to get.
Ex Machina Special #1 - I love this book, but I'm unsure why this is called a special. Different artist to let Harris catch up, or is DC trying to promote the book? Either way of course I'm buying it.
Conan #27 - I'm so behind on this, but I'll keep buying. Quality is quality.
Captain America #17 - My favorite book today, not even close. Its a shame that its not selling more, only about 45K. I dont watch 24, but I imagine that the tone of this book is similar to that show. Just incredible. And can Perkins ape Epting's pencils or what?
Daredevil #84 - I just got caught up on the last 12 Bendis Daredevils. It ended.... okay..... My friend is raving about how good this has been. Kudos to Marvel for putting Brubaker and Lark on this, probably my favorite creative team in comics right now.
Iron Man #7 - I love the character, I like Zircher, I'll check this out.
New Avengers #18 - Behind on this. I'll read a bunch of these issues at once and get ready for Civil War that way. Curious to see Deodato's pencils.
Spider Woman #5
Wolverine Origins #1 - I'm looking forward to this, even though I probably wont dig it. Love Dillon though, and maybe Way will hook me, he has in the past with his Bullseye limited series.
X-Men #185
Angel: Old Friends #5

I'm planning on hitting my LCS after I get back from Japan today:
DC COMICS
BIRDS OF PREY #93 $2.50
A couple of more issues before I decide to keep reading...
EX MACHINA SPECIAL #1 (OF 2) (MR) $2.99
Once the current arc and the specials are done, I'm going to try my best to drop this book in favor or trades.
MARVEL
ANNIHILATION NOVA #1 (OF 4) $2.99
Flip test!
CAPTAIN AMERICA #17 $2.99
Happy to read an interview with Mike Perkins recently that said he would be alternating arcs with Epting on this book.
NEW AVENGERS #18 $2.99
I've railed on my dislike of Deodato's art on Amazing Spider-man over the past year but was surprised to find that his style was a perfect fit for the last issue of New Avengers.
SPIDER-WOMAN ORIGIN #5 (OF 5) $2.99
This has been a good mini-series.
Waiting for the Hardcover
QUEEN & COUNTRY DECLASSIFIED VOL 2 TP
QUEEN & COUNTRY DECLASSIFIED VOL 3 TP
Already pre-ordered.

The comiclist.com website has been updated. It's now in a blog format. Good news: No more baby picture wallpaper. =)
Bad news: No more direct link to one single web page with the latest release list. It's a minor point, though.
Onto the comics, then:
DC COMICS
Batman Thrillkiller TPB New Ptg, $14.99
Ex Machina Special #1 (Of 2), $2.99
JLA Classified #20, $2.99
I'm finishing off Gail's run, and then I'm out.
I should have dumped EX MACHINA a while ago. It's not that I don't like the series, but that I've fallen so far behind on it that I might as well go the TPB route.
And I own the original THRILLKILLER issues, so I'm not sure I really need the trade. But I might buckle when I see it in the store, so I'll keep it on my watch list.
IMAGE COMICS
Spawn #1 In 3D, $5.95
I like weird comics. I like 3D comics. And this book should make for a great 3D comic. I don't know if anyone ordered it, though.
KYLE BAKER PUBLISHING
Bakers Do These Toys Belong Somewhere HC, $18.95
Saw this in my comics shop last week. Full color, nicely done, but I'm not sure I want to spend $20 on it right now. I might pick it up directly from Baker at the San Diego Con, instead.
MARVEL COMICS
Daredevil #84, $2.99
Will likely be the first book I read tonight.
Marvel Spotlight Daniel Way Oliver Coipel, $2.99
I enjoy the comic, even when I barely read half of it.
New Avengers #18, $2.99
I've read the first three hardcovers. For CIVIL WAR purposes, I'm considering buying the single issues after that third hardcover to catch up to everything.
New Mutants Classic Vol 1 TPB, $24.99
It's an option, but I don't think I'll exercise it.
Nextwave Agents Of Hate #4, $2.99
After I finish DAREDEVIL, I'm all over this one.
Spider-Man The Other HC, $29.99
This hardcover fetish of mine is reaching a new low that I'm even considering buying this one. Don't think I will, though. I think I have that much willpower.
Wolverine Origins #1, $2.99
Want to read this, but didn't read the lead-in issues of the normal monthly series. Waiting for the Marvel Premiere Edition of that. Think that'll be the way I track this series, too.
MR COMICS
Big Max #1, $2.99
More Dan Slott hilarity!
ONI PRESS INC.
Queen & Country Declassified Vol 2 TPB, $8.95
Queen & Country Declassified Vol 3 TPB, $8.95
If there won't be hardcovers, then I'll have to go with these. Need to look that up, though. JLJ, are you there? What's the situation?

Ouch. I saw the new WOLVERINE ESSENTIALS today. Ouch. It's reproduced in black and white off the color comic. Looks like photocopies. Wonder what happened there? They've been able to produce the black and white versions of previous issues, right?
Looks like crap, tho I suppose it's still a good deal for the money.

April 19, 2006:
Daredevil # 84 (464)
Justice # 5 (of 12)
Mouse Guard # 1 (of 6) [2nd printing]
X-Men # 185

I noticed the gray scale too. I don't remember seeing it in any other Essentials. One neat thing about the Essentials is just getting to look at the pencils and inks. Maybe they have to do it like this to lower production costs?
When I got home I checked, and it turns out I still own most of these issues (# 70-90). This didn't surprise me too much because I remember collecting Wolverine for quite a while. I own almost nothing after this though.
I wonder why Wolverine is the only series from the 1990's or later getting the Essential treatment? I wonder if it hurts Wolverine back issue interest or raises it.

I bet they're considering it part of the tie-in to WOLVERINE: ORIGINS. I know Marvel has a project going in house to digitize all their comics. Maybe they're working from the 1960s forward, and they're not up to this era of WOLVERINE yet? I'd also guess that they shot from the original color film for this book, rather than digital files, which would be easier to suck the colors out of. It's disappointing.
But there are other Marvel books I'd love to see get the ESSENTIAL treatment from the 80s and even the 90s. Maybe we'll get to those. Heck, we have ESSENTIAL GODZILLA right now. Anything is possible.
