How cool would that be? I'd carve off one of my nuts and feed it to a stray dog for the opportunity to read Alan Moor's magnificent Swamp Thing run in an Absolute format. What do y'all think are the chances of this happening?

We'll I don't think I'd go as far as that, but yeah, I would love to read it in an Absolute format.

Definitely.

As a collector of good literature and a reader proud of my small library, an Absolute Moore Swamp Thing would be a must have regardless of price - as will the Absolute Sandman series.

Regardless of who may disagree, I've found runs like Moore's Swamp Thing a "must have" in all formats - the original single issues for my mylar-ed comic collection, the TPB's for my reader copies, and any Hardcover and/ or Absolute releases for my large bookshelf - some works are just that good.

Now, that's an absolute treatment that would appeal to me !
I'd definitely buy it.

Definately would be on my to-buy list...
So would a collection of Bernie Wrightson illustrated Swamp Thing stories actually... with perhaps a few other Wrightson horror stories to fill up the book :D

Would love an Absolute Swamp Thing of the Alan Moore stories. It can be done. Top Cow is releasing an Absolute type Edition of Witchblade which consist of the first fifty issues. So it's possible. DC will probably see how Kingdom Come and DKR does...........which they will do fine to see if they will continue with these. I own HUSH AE and COIE AE, both are wonderful in the blown up size.

Another question. Should an absolute edition of Swamp Thing be re-coloured or published in b&w. I honestly doubt that the latter would happen but I own all of the b&w Titan editions and the artwork looks devastatingly impressive. I always felt that the colours were a bit muddy (maybe that was the point though).

I've heard great things about Moore's Swamp Thing. I'd like to see a nice format for it like that; I'd buy it. Would it all fit into one volume though? Just curious.

Speaking of Moore, I'm still hoping that eventually we'll get an Absolute edition of his Miracleman. The copyright issues surrounding the character are just insane, and I've been dying to read Moore's run. The trades are impossible to get a hold of as well, unless you're willing to pay hundreds of dollars. Maybe someday... :(

You could download the issues and read them. If your scruples can't abide such a practice then just make sure you buy the collected edition if/when it ever surfaces. If it doesn't...no harm, no foul.

The only comic I've ever downloaded was Ultimates 2 #10, and that's because my comic shop wouldn't get their shipment in for another 2 weeks. I did buy the issue a few weeks later though, so I wouldn't feel guilty (And it's always better to be able to hold the issue in your hands).

With Miracle Man though... There's no way I'm going to be able to pick up the back issues or trades. I think downloading them might be my only option...

Damn you Todd McFarlane!

I would recommend you do so and don't feel guilty about it. If circumstances ever conspire to make Miracle Man once again available in a fashion that would allow Alan Moore to receive payment for your purchase then by all means go ahead and buy whatever collected edition makes it's way onto the shelves of your local comic shop. I do, however, doubt that Alan Moore would hold any kind of grudge against anyone who limited by the current situation cannot put his/her hands on the actual issues without parting with a considerable amount of cash (I myself sold issue 15 of Miracle Man for over £50.00) if the person in question chose to download the issues rather than render themselves somewhat bankrupt. So go ahead. I'm certain it will arrive in some form some day. Just look at the complication that arose in the years leading to a big screen Spider-Man movie. So much so that many questioned whether or not it would ever happen.

Yes, it concludes, but you can continue reading Veitch's run afterwards if you want to.

And no, there's never been a Swamp Thing as good as Moore's since, imo.

Mark Millar's run is I think the best it's been since Moore left

Well if DC didn't go hide their nuts in their ass, and let Rick veitch finish his arc, there would be a lot more people talking about his run on the book.

Mark Millar's run is very good, Dan, I totally agree (and I think they should have let Rick Veitch finish his run, too. Then we'd have a bunch of six-issue Neil Gaiman Swamp Thing stories, as well).

As far as the absolute edition is concerned, obviously Moore's 45-issue run wouldn't fit into a single book, but his first year would, and that's a lot of the material I really want to see in the large format - (#20-31 + Ann. 2). Plus, it's a complete story - Moore doesn't even start foreshadowing "American Gothic" until Abby is safely back from Hell.

And yes. I really think it needs to be recolored. There was just no way to do Bissette andTotleben's work justice, and they really didn't.

I love that book. When I was a kid, I used to check the collected edition of "Saga" out of the public library and scare myself silly with the Demon story.

I did hear rumours that Veitch was going to get to finish of his storyline his way for the TPBs (anything would be better that the awful Doug Wheeler stuff that followed). I don't know how much that was rumour and how much it was wishful speculation.

I actually prefered the colouring in the original issues to the colouring int he TPBs. I thing the high quality of the printing in the TPBs gave the colours too hard an edge to fit with the art. If they do recolour it again, they should do it with watercolours
