I just read the hard cover collection of Secret War, and I thought, as with House of M, it reads decently as a single bound volume, but would have been at the very least confusing to read in single issue formats.

My question is, how does SW tie-in to NA and maybe CW? the SW team looks a lot like the NA team, and maybe that's where the germ of the idea comes in? also, is SW a part of continuity? Did Reed tell the Illumnati about the Fury's Secret War?

Apologies if this particualr dead horse has been flogged, but a search didn't reveal much.

Itīs definitely in continuity.
Fury is currently underground due to the events in SW and this stupid earthquake chick (donīt know her name right now) appears in NA #17.
And I think that the SW events are one important reason for the Super Hero Registration Act of CW.

Why would it be hard to understand in issues?
I understood it well.

A lot of the reviews said that BMB's decompression-style writing, and the length of time betweeen issues, made this series more difficult to read as single, stnad-alone issues.

The whole secret wars series was fine in issues but just having one or two of them would be no use at all.

I agree. While I enjoy Bendis' work, his story really do work a LOT better when you read it all at once, TPBs or an entire arc in one sitting via issues instead of single issues once a month.

Honestly I wouldn't mind waiting a month or two to get the TPB of New Avengers or Ultimate Spider-man if his stories went straight to TPB. They are a lot more satisfiying read that way. I don't really enjoy New Avengers or Ultimate Spider-man as much as a result of this until entire arcs are done, then I go back and reread it all and I enjoy them a LOT more.

So the Secret Wars trade is worth picking up? It's a hefty enough price tag.

Yes it is. Secret War is amazing because of its writing and especially due to gabriel delloto's awesome art. Defenitly pick this one up.

Secret War was pretty fun. My only disapointment was that I was expecting a big payoff scene featuring the mission (issue, even!) but we only got one or two pages of black and white flashback.
:(

Still great though.

Yea same here.
At least the two pages looked pretty awesome.
