Another excellent issue from Wood and Burchielli. The ending was great; no way did I think Ferguson was still alive. I wonder how Matty will take to being used as an errand boy, prior to this he's been sort of a big deal among the denizens of the DMZ.

Plus: how amazing is that cover. Something I didn't notice in the solicits was his t-shirt. You can tell it says "Long Island," but giving it a cursory glance it could be read as "Islam." With the American flag behind Matty this image makes for an interesting counterpoint to the recent depictions of westerners in Iraq. The moment I saw this cover I could think of nothing but those awful beheadings.

Hey, great point with the shirt divine. I didn't catch that at first and actually adds a certain value to the story and the series as a whole. Ferguson being alive is a good shock, I wonder how Matt's going to handle the situation. It's either life or death for Ferguson and it's all probably going to rest on Matt's shoulders.

Plus, what a brutal opening scene! This series seems so real. It's like the war is over here in our country. And it's not pretty. :(

Yeah, wasn't it right after the water-truck explosion? Zee was helping out the injured.

I am really happy that Zee will return to the book. I loved her character, to me she is like the moral compass of the DMZ world, trying to help people out the best she can not because it fits into a political agenda.

But this is issue six...who knows what else could happen...maybe there is more to her than meets the eye.

Just wanted to poke my head in on this and toss my thoughts on the fire that DMZ is one of the finest books out there, in my opinion. Brubaker's still got my one and two spots with DD and Cap, but DMZ is definitely my third favorite book every month. I love it.

I was going to copy and paste a bit I wrote about Wood on my website, (www.schmakt.com) but I now realize that I use too many words that start with "F" to paste it here... Gaiman used to be my favorite comic book author - without question. With Moore following... But with DMZ being so strong, Local being a great read, and Channel Zero (I just read it) being one of the best damned graphic novels ever, Brian Wood just rocketed into first place as my favorite writer out there.
