Well recently I picked up Nightwing, and I've picked up a Batman issue here and there. Well I was really intrigued by the writing in Nightwing, and I really enjoyed the look and feel of it. So I have two questions. What comics in general would you guys recommend getting and more specifically what is the best Batman title out there.

At the moment there's a 6-part story running in Batman & Detective which redefines the character. I'd recommend picking that up.

Y'know, I was wondering about that when I typed it, but didn't take time to double-check. Thanks.

Who's your favorite writer over at marvel? You could always check and see what they did for DC.
I would say give jonah hex and DMZ(from the vertigo line) a try.
And if you've never read the batman year one story from years ago i'd say give that a look over..

jonah hex
I agree with the Robinson Batman... fun stuff!
And Jonah Hex is an AMAZING book! each issue is a single tale with no crossovers or tie in's. Just good storytelling and amazing art.
JSA is about the best team book on the market but there is a lot of history with it... so buyer beware... BUT if you can get into it you won't be disappointed!
If you are digging the Bat books like Nightwing grab Birds of Prey! IMO the best Batbook out there. It's a fun read with great art.

Have you thought about giving Vertigo books a shot? Plenty of winners there if you're looking for something different.

And thanks a lot for the replies thus far. I'll look into them.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record but: Green Lantern.
Also, Batman/Superman is always a hoot.

Give Manhunter a try. It's consistently a great read.

My recommendations...
100 Bullets
Y: The Last Man
Fables
As for regular DC, I'm reading both Batman and Detective Comics. Both are pretty good right now.

100 Bullets, I'd like to get into that, it looks awesome.
Also I'd like to ask, is Blue Beetle presently in any issues? I remember getting that .99 cent Infinite Crisis and really liking the character.
unfortunately, Ted Kord is dead (died at the end of the 99 cents countdown special), however, the new Blue Beetle, Jaime something-or-other just debutted in his new ongoing. You can probably still get issue #1, it just came out a week ago. It's written by Keith Giffen (for marvel zombies, Giffen is the same guy who writes the entire annihilation thingy), and is, in my opinion, much better than his marvel book. Give the new Blue Beetle a try, I thought the first issue was pretty cool.
As for other things.
If you into batman, I don't know how many times, in your lifetime, you will ever die and go to heaven like what we will experience coming up. After James Robinson's eight part story is over (which I'm liking by the way) Grant Morrison takes over Batman, with art by Kubert (forget which one, but marvel zombies know him well), and, here's the kicker, the legendary Paul Dini will take over Detective Comics (for those not in the know, that's paul dini, who was the mastermind behind Batman: TAS, and who wrote such legendary episodes as Heart of Ice, and mad love, his imprint is all over that show. Who was one of the head writers behind Duck Dodgers of the 24th and a half century, and who, along with Kevin Smith, pitched the Green Loontern episode. And whose recent credit is one of the head writers of the hit show Lost. Bottom line: the man can write.) If you're a batman fan, there's no way you're not picking up Morrison / Dini Batman. As an added Bonus, Paul Dini co-created Harlequinn when he wrote the episode Joker's favor, and she's his favorite, so you know Harle will be involved in his upcoming 'tec run somewhere. More harle goodness, as written by the master, what's not to like?
I second the vote for Jonah Hex. That book is absolutely amazing, it has great art, and killer writing, and every single issue has those classic Jonah Hex total bad-ass lines that just stick in your head. Get this book.
As for vertigo, Y the last man and Fables are my two favorite vertigo titles, Ex Machina is also very good, but it's not Y or Fables. Buy those two books, see what you think, and then go from there, is my advice.
IMHO, Birds of Prey is the finest team book on the market today. For the record, I read a lot of team books, and I would rank them:
1. Birds of Prey
2. Justice - Alex Ross art, buy this book.
3. Astonishing X-men
4. Ultimates
5. JSA
IMHO, you can't go wrong with anyone in the top five.

My only problem with 2,3 & 4 is the fact that they are bi-monthly AT BEST! I know Justice is, but the others are chronically late (always worth it mind you) but I think JSA should rank higher because of its amazing consistency!

Another vote for Birds of Prey...a consistently fun read. I'd also reccommend Gail Simone's Villains United mini (available in TPB) and her upcoming Secret Six mini.
If you like Batman, check out The Long Halloween and Dark Victory TPBs. Both are great detective stories with incredible Tim Sale art.
On the Vertigo front, I love Ex Machina, starring the world's first super hero (now retired) as the mayor of New York City.

If you lean towards the Batman type of stuff then I would say:
Birds of Prey (features Oracle who was the original Batgirl, Huntress sort of the wildcard of the Batman "family", Black Canary, and a few others)
Green Arrow
Manhunter (another street level hero)
Teen Titans (Robin is a member)
Green Lantern (if you want a little scifi action)
Since you like Nightwing I might almost suggest The Outsiders since he leads that team, but the book is not really that great.

Before you start looking around the Vertigo board for Ex Machina, keep in mind that it's a Wildstorm title and a fantastic one at that.
As for the other Vertigo recommendations in this thread, you can't lose. My suggestion is that you read them in trades. Start at the beginning and work your way up from there. Especially in reference to 100 Bullets and Y. You won't be sorry.
