Hello everybody, looong time lurker, first time poster. :) Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to quit the comic buying for about 18 months, and now able to get back to my old reading habbits.

I recently purchased Identity Crisis, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Omac Project, Day of Vengeance, Rann Thannagar War, and Villains United in tpbs to get caught up in the big events. While I do plan to go back and fill in the holes in my collection, I was wondering if the back issues are necessary reading. Would it be safe to say that the tpbs listed above along with Infinite Crisis and the OYL issues are a good "jumping on point" ?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this was posted in the wrong place.

Here's my current DC pull list, including some upcoming titles.

52
Action Comics
Aquaman
Batman
Checkmate
Detective Comics
Flash
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Ion
JLA Classified
Justice League of America
JSA
JSA Classified
Superman
Superman / Batman
Wonder Woman

Chances are, you could get away with just reading the OYL titles.

But, if you really want to go back and read Infinite Crisis (and, if you're going to read 52 then you probably should), I personally suggest reading the following stories:

Identity Crisis
Countdown to Infinite Crisis
Prelude to Infinite Crisis (summarizes and reprints key pre-Crisis stories)
Wonder Woman #219 or the Sacrifice tpb
Day of Vengeance (only if you care about The Spectre or Shadowpact)
Villains United (I believe a title or two will be stemming from this series too)
Infinite Crisis
Wonder Woman #224-225
The Infinite Crisis specials
Infinite Crisis Secret Files 2006

I don't personally think you need the Rann/Thanagar War or OMAC Project tpbs to follow what's happening, but they won't do you wrong either.

I was able to jump into Green Lantern from issue #1 without reading Rebirth, but if you're planning to read the upcoming GL Corps and Ion titles, then you're going to want to pick up "Green Lantern Corps: Recharge" as well. I also recommend GL #1-10. You probably don't need them to understand what's happening OYL, but they're fantastic issues and still easy to get for cover price.

In regard to Batman, you're going to want to know about the Jason Todd developments. I think there's a tpb out reprinting all of those key issues called "Under the Red Hood" or something like that. Jason first reappeared during Hush (which you probably were around to read) and his post-death origin is told in Batman Annual #25.

That should probably do it.

You probably don't need the Sacrifice TPB, as the only important issue from this (as far as IC goes) is Wonder Woman #219, which is included in the OMAC Project trade (IIRC). If you are big on Supes and WW, go ahead and buy it, but to me it was mostly filler.

I would definitely not recommend Infinite Crisis as a jumping on point for NEW readers, but as you seem to have some DC continuity under your belt, it should be a fun read.

Depending on how you feel after reading the stories contained in the 4 lead-in miniseries (R/T War, OMAC, DoV, VU), you might also want to buy each of those series' specials, which aren't included in the tpb's and which actually conclude each of the stories. VU's is the only one that has yet to come out.

I think right now is a great time to jump into any of the DC books. Everything has shifted and everybody is confused. Join the party :)

Thanks for the replies, wanted to make sure I wouldn't be totaly lost if I started again reading current (OYL) issues. I do plan on getting the GLC: Recharge tpb when it comes out. As far as DC continuity, I'm pretty familiar with what's gone on in the past, as I started reading DC around 1992-'93. I've read and enjoyed Crisis on Infinite Earths, and I'm sure I'll enjoy reading Infinite Crisis.

Thanks again.
