Check out my signature if you're interested in what sort of stories a group of awesome second graders could write. It is officially available to the public.

Had dinner with a parent tonight . . .her daughter drew the cover and wrote the longest story. She got a look at the preview copy and almost lost it. Can not WAIT until everyone gets one.

Oh, and any profits (I don't think there are any) just go to writing materials for the class.

I can remember when I was that age (or even younger). We had a fiction anthology that I had a bunch of things published in. Reading those stories now makes me wince... they're beyond stupid. But it was fun at the time.

What are your students writing about? When I was that age, our creative writing consisted mainly of imitating our favorite cartoons, or retelling real-life stories with fictitious names in the place of our friends. IIRC, I wrote a Ninja Turtles pastiche featuring a ninja tiger character. Lame, but like I said, I thought it was cool at the time.

It's a real variety. Some of them are slice-of-life stories with probably real-life origins, some of them are more sitcom-like. There are some romance stories and a couple of fun/crazy action pieces, too. Only a couple seem to be DIRECTLY inspired by a specific source.
