T.I.'s new album King apparently moved 500k in its first week. I read this on another message board, and the only links I can find are saying that it was on pace to sell 500,000. But whatever, congrats to tha king.

Anyone else pick this up? I love the album for the most part. It starts to lose my interest a little in the second half, but ends strongly. Favourite rap release so far this year.

EDIT: It keeps making the I in the title lowercase, haha.

I completely disagree. To me, Tip has gotten progressively worse every album...anything worse than this, and he'll be pretty much unlistenable to me.

His lyrics are growing more cliched by the minute. He had a decent start start with "I'm Serious," but after that album, he lost everything that made him stand out. His rawness was what was appealing about him (to me). I have no interest in listening to another polished southern rapper. I hoped that "Trap Muzik" was a sophomore slump. Then I prayed that the lukewarm reception to "Urban Legend" would turn him around. I've pretty much lost hope by now.

I don't even like Ghostface that much, but his album blows Tip's out of the water as far as rap releases this year. And that's just in the realm of commercial rap...K-Rino's "Time Traveler," Lil' Weavah's "Southern Lyricist" (basically like Tip from "I'm Serious" except better), and Agent Smith's "The Con-Soul Pt. 2" are all way better than either album.

That's not really fair. T.I.'s popularity has skyrocketed over the last two years. He probably would have had similar sales even without his movies.

I've only really listened to Urban Legend and King. I have Trap Muzik but haven't given it a good listen yet. Still need to get I'm Serious. I think King is better than Urban Legend, and I really liked Urban Legend.

I haven't gotten Ghostface's album yet. I'm going to try searching for it in stores again this weekend.

In my mind, T.I. is only getting better. Urban Legend is a heater and the fact is, if Bring Em Out didnt have so much success as a single (followed by ASAP and U Dont Know Me and Motivation), then that national consciousness wouldnt be talking about him now. He's a beast.

I tend to skip over "Bring 'Em Out", and "Get It" is starting to bug me. Swizz Beatz' production sounds so messy.

swizzy aint my favorite either. Doesn't really matter though, since TI sounds best on a Toomp (or Banner) beat, imo

These guys are the reason I love Satellite radio. I like it, in moderation. Give it to me once a day, and filter in some rock, a little comedy, and some sports talk radio. Sirius is awesome! :D

spazzy, you in the right thread with this post? Im pretty sure that T.I. doesn't have his own radio show on Sirius--that would be Paul Wall. Or is he on XM? Hmm, i forget.

anyway, one more thing i just learned yesterday about TIP. each of his albums, INCLUDING Trap Muzik have gone platinum. I had no idea Trap Muzik went platinum.

I'm Serious did not go platinum. I don't know for sure, but it would shock me if it did.

Sorry, I didn't mean he had his own radio show. But they do play his music often. Hip Hop nation, Shade 45, and I can't remember the other. Just often enough for me to get my fill without having to buy the CD.

I pretty much agree with that. I love "I'm Serious" (the song, not the album), but everything since then has ranged from awful to average.
