Since we all know know that Superboy is the major character that dies in IC and is the hero of IC, who should carry his dead body on the cover of issue seven?

Personally, I think it should be Wonder Girl. She (and Robin) were the closest to him and both seemed to care about him far more than anyone else did. I would like to see an iconic pic of Wonder Girl holding Superboy's dead body and is in tears, just like Superman was crying over Supergirl's dead body in COIE. I think it would make the impact of Kon-El's death just that much bigger, given the fact that he and Cassie were lovers and had a Romeo/Juliet thing going on, there.

Besides, I don't think Superman disserves the right to hold Superboy's dead body. I am sure Superman is going to be quite upset, but let's be honest, Clark and Conner were not that close at all. I hate to admit this, but I see this to be very true.

that's true, but do you honestly think they could refuse an obvious opportunity to make the cover of IC #7 so closely resemble that of COIE #7? I'm guessing it will be supes holding Connor.

Would have been really weird and poignant if the Titans annual had ended with him telling Cassie he wanted to wait...

I prefer for characters to die with lots of unfinished business though.

These guys have too big a boner for the old days to not have Superman holding the body.

A more honest cover would show the Joker clutching a wad of cash while pointing and laughing at the reader.

A more honest cover would show the Joker clutching a wad of cash while pointing and laughing at the reader.

On first glance, I thought this was mildly humourous; as I thought more about it, however, I came to dissect the idea, and realized the poor choice of such a cover.

That would only work if there were some sort of scam involved, where all the readers were duped by, ostensibly, DC Comics through the proxy Joker's representation.

Readers that enjoy the series would not get the cover as being offensive, since they derived value from the comic and, thus, were not "ripped off." Value begets satisfaction, and a satisfied customer would be the wrong customer to market that cover to.

Next, there are those who did not enjoy the series. Unfortunately, people who spent money on the series and didn't enjoy it would no longer be duped, as they likely would not be buying it any longer. Again, the cover is not applicable.

The next group would be those who are purposely buying the series, despite their hatred of it. If they are, then they're masochistic and deserve our sympathy, not derision. Once more, the cover strikes out.

So, that leaves us with the remaining group: Those that bought the series, didn't enjoy it, but held out hope that it would resolve amicably. Assuming the series does not satisfy their concerns and questions, then they would be the most appropriate demographic for the proposed cover.

Based on recent Newsarama and CBR polls, there is a strong majority of readers, at least from those sites, that are enjoying the series. Slightly less than that are those that do not enjoy the series. Of those numbers, we can safely estimate would put our final supposed group of "Hopeful Holdouts" in a small minority. Such a small minority would not represent a good market for DC to hinge their final cover upon.

Therefore, keeping in the theme of variant covers, the potential Joker-Cash-Grab cover should presumably be shipped in no more than a 1:10 ratio to the regular covers, in order to most effectively reach the intended audience.

With the right marketing and retailer tie-ins, DC could ensure that each local comic shop deliver the appropriate cover to the correct customer through the continual feedback that occurs in shops, as well as a simple poll upon purchase of the title.

Because, honestly, if we're going to insult people in a corporate world, we're going to have to do it right, gosh darn it!

I guess I'm one of the Hopeful Holdouts. The last few issues have been a mess, but maybe Geoff Johns will pull off a great ending. He used to be really good at delivering great endings to big stories.

For all we know, Cassie might have popped out a Superbaby during 52. Maybe it's going to be a picture of her holding up a pregnancy test, with Ma and Pa Kent in the background knitting booties and building a cot.

Just the last few issues? {laughs like Joker} Oh, but you guys already know my opinion on that matter...

All I want is for the cover to tell something about the inside of the issue without being misleading. I mean, last time I was expecting Batman, WW, and GL to fight SP at some point in the story. Stupid cover.

Jim Lee's hinted that GL fans have something to look forward to.

He will probably get to punch SBP one time or something, while saying a badass line of dialogue ala Black Adam and Martian Manhunter. GL fans will be thrilled that he got the one cool moment, the way BA and MM fans were.

Then Superman will fight SBP evenly for six pages and Superman fans will be disappointed that he didn't get to do enough.

This is apparently the mock up of one of the IC#7 covers. For those that have been holding out all this time for the Joker, this one's for you - though DC have declined to comment if he's actually in the issue itself or just on the cover as a DC rep/mascot. The cover itself is rumoured to be a special dealers insentive cover (RRP), that is issued in very rare amounts. There will only be one issue per retailer. When unveiling this, DC also explained that any true IC fan has GOT to buy this cover, otherwise they are not really following Crisis. Expect the issue to set you back at least $400. The link for the pic is http://www.geocities.com/ilfordboy/IC7-1.bmp. DC also took this opertunity to announce Infinite Cost: The new crisis, which will focus on E2 Batman trying to find the perfect Robin in the multiverse :p (idea from Shellhead)

That's apparently the same cover to as Batman Dark Detective #1 just the words "vote" and "give" are different with Money in the Joker's hands.

Yeah. It was based on an idea in another thread. After being promised some cool Joker stuff and not seeing him at all other than IC #1, I found the idea of him cluthing cash whilst laughing and pointing at the reader to be hillarious. I didn't mean for it to seem serious - it's simply a little poke at DC.

why not lex luthor in the iconic image with supes in the background. the two will need to team up somehow to finish the luthor/superboy tag team anyway... and lex has more vested interest in conner than kal-el.

Those covers are really dissapointing, I was really hoping for some sort of homage to the Crisis on infinite earths cover with Superman holding Supergirl, but this time with wonder girl and superboy, I would have settled for Superman with SUperboy though.

But these covers are just.... crap. There too chaotic, and honestly if all the last issue is turns out to be just a big throwdown between everybody like is indicated, well Im gonna be disappointed honestly. I really loved the series so far but if this last issue is no more than a big fight, how dissapointing.

I cant believe That SB isnt even on either of the covers.

Edit: I do however see bulleteer on one of the covers which is awesome because 7 soldiers rules, also I see flash so if hes in this well that should be interesting to finally find out a bigger part of what happened when they took out SBP.

Our SB, who died in #6 and thus has no reason to be on #7's cover?

Or SB Prime - who's at the center of all that hullabaloo on Lee's #7 cover?

Phoney Bone
04-20-2006, 06:52 PM
No-no-no.

If there were to be an homage to the Superman/Supergirl cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths, it would have been the previous issue... the one Conner actually died in.

Silly people.

EDIT: The Perez cover for #7 is an homage to the "Villian War" in CoIE (if there is a God, Perez and Ordway will do the art chores for Villian War II while Jiminez handles the confrontaion with Superboy Prime). The Lee cover is an homage to CoIE #12, with all the heroes attacking the Anti-Monitor... as it SHOULD be.

I actually like them as a great and obvious homage to the big 'blowout' final issue of COIE. Can't decide which one i like better at this pont, but I am glad they went with something 'big'.

I think both of these covers are awesome. Once it's colored, the Perez one is *so* going on my desktop.

The Lee cover indicates a huge GL Corps presence in the battle against Superboy Prime. I wonder if Hal will end up being the hero? He's said to have a major role in INFINITE CRISIS.

Major role, or big fan-pleasing moment? Those aren't necessarily the same thing. I'm betting there will be a large spread of Hal making a big entrance with the GL Corps behind him, and that is what they hinted it.

J'onn sort of looks out of place on the cover. So does Power Girl, but she's less noticable since she isn't in the eye of the storm, so to speak.

So the final issue is just everybody and their grandmas vs. everyone else? Sure, that'll be a nice cataclysmic fight, but I don't think it'll accomplish anything. We already know that the Society isn't gone one year later, so I can't see much coming out of that first cover. As for the second one...why the space people?

It could be that, or it could be more. Remember: Hal, as Parallax, has been where Superboy Prime and Alexander Luthor are at. He's tried to remake the multiverse before himself. He probably understands the motivations of these villains better than any of the other superheroes confronting them.

True. And I guess not everyone would have noticed the action figure thing anyway. Still, they could just as well have had the green lanterns all fighting without showing the middle part.
I think the original cover was scrapped because the writers realised the comic would focus less on the breaking of the trinity, and more on beating up SBP. Heck, I wouldn't be suprised if the trinity patch things up in IC#7. There was a U-turn with the IC#6 cover, and I believe Jones even said they changed their minds and were taking a differet direction or something.

perez's cover looks to have a cloak-ey thing intentionally left blank? doesn't seem to be any other reason for a decent sized white blob in the middle of the fracas there. my guess? spectre.

lee's cover gave me ADD, and also appears to have a a rather large contingent of Lanterns (there is a squid lantern? O_o)
