The perfect earth?

something has been bugging me lately... superman says a perfect earth does not need a superman... and alex says something like everything is linked to superman.. before COIE, there were already earths that didnt have a superman! were they already considered perfect? if no, does that mean Earth2 is still the perfect earth as E2 superman thought?

theres a big difference between "need" and "have"

A perfect world would not NEED Clark to be Superman, but could still have Clark Kent

a world might not HAVE a Superman and just have other heros in his place, or none at all, and still not be considered perfect.


Alex is looking for a world that doesn't NEED Superman, so that there IS no Superman (just clark kent, Kal-El, whatever) So that way a Luthor becomes King, so to speak.

A perfect Earth does not need a Superman because there would be no need to rescue people from disaster, stop criminals, etc. It would be a harmonious and perfect planet. Perfection is unimaginable, so a perfect planet is a forced truth procedure, hence Alex's fascist megalomania of remaiking the worlds and killing billions.

Alex seems to have a God complex and it looks like he can only envision a perfect Earth that is "perfect" to him. He is trying to force his view of perfection on the rest of the universe.

Oddly enough, he doesn't talk about ruling over a perfect Earth. He just seems to think that he knows best about how the universe should be ordered.

This series was interesting till they brought in this perfect earth bs. Why does he want the perfect earth anyways? It seems evry issue now is just an excuse to bring in billions of earths for a few panels, then return it all to one eath. *yawn*

I disagree. Here's how I read AL's "perfect earth" and God complex.

What AL is doing until the end of IC #6 is essentially altruistic (assuming that you believe his motives are what he says they are, and he tells everyone the same thing, so there's no reason to doubt him, unless he's a pathological liar). However, the manner in which he carries out those intentions goes horribly wrong, interestingly, it apparently goes horribly wrong in precisely the same way that it must for all Luthors. It's like there's a cosmic curse on the name "Luthor", that having that name dooms the bearer to a sisphyian life of constantly exerting effort to get the stone up the hill, only to have to watch it, inevitably, roll down when one's efforts are nearest completetion.

This happens to Lex Luthor all the time. You read enough comics, and you know what the stick in Lex Luthor's craw is (read Lex Luthor: man of steel, for example). Here's Lex Luthor, the smartest man in metropolis, you look far and wide in metropolis, everything has his name on it, you look, and all you see are constant reminders of all the altruistic things that Luthor has done with his brains and money. Yet, for all he's done for people, all he ever hears about is that guy from another planet who plucks kittens out of trees. It drives him crazy, with anger, jealousy and hatred, and that's why all of these stories inevitably end with Lex doing something drastic. There's altruism, then there's a Luthor's version of Altruism, which is incredibly destructive in the process whose ultimate intent is altruistic. I think that's what's being driven at here.

Honestly, I can't believe the theory that all Earths are based aruond Superman. Where was the Superman-based character on Earth-X, or on some of the other worlds they had like the Marvel Family Earth and the Captain Atom/Blue Beetle (et all) Earth?

The perfect Earth has balance of good and evil. The perfect Earth has anger, sadness, malice, and any other negative trait. The perfect Earth has an equal amount of happiness, kindness, understanding, and any other positive trait. The perfect Earth still has need for heroes, firemen, police officers, doctors, men in the armed forces, etc. The perfect Earth works efficiently, despite the complaints made about it.

Well seeeing as they were all characters from other companies, originally, they have "analogues" to Superman. They were Uncle Sam, Captain Marvel and Captain Atom respectively. After the Wonder Man courtcase people tried not to have a Superman-style character.
