View Full Version : He/She said what?

All of us have had some moment where we thought something similar to, "He/She didn't actually say that, right?" When I was a teacher, I came across this quite a bit when I heard comments from students, parents, or other teachers. Here's one of my favorites.
After explaining to another teacher that I gave my students the choice of saying the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning as long as everyone was respectful during it, she looked confused for a few seconds before issuing forth the best and most confusing question.
"Justin, don't you like America?"
I didn't know how to respond to that. At first, I thought she was joking, but she really didn't get the whole freedom of choice option I offered the students.
Also, since DeLay is in the news a lot right now, here's a quote by him on the causes of the Columbine High School massacre:
"Guns have little or nothing to do with juvenile violence. The causes of youth violence are working parents who put their kids into daycare, the teaching of evolution in the schools, and working mothers who take birth control pills."
What are your "he/she said what?" quotes?

Barnum was right.

That's right, dillhole. I'm talking to you. Berkeley, right? I'm down there about once a year. Yeah, I'm threatening you. You had no right saying what you just did. No right. You weren't there. I'm done with this board. But in no way in hell am I done with you. You wanna see the ugly side of the military? You fucking got it.
Shocked the hell out of me.

As much as I agree with the first part (the violent youth is not an American/gun problem) the second part makes NO SENSE!
Working mothers?
Fucking BIRTH CONTROL PILLS?
Was Tom Delay high when he said this?

Being high might explain a lot of the stuff Delay has said or done.
Gold, I hoped to keep the quotes non-CBR-related (can I double hyphen like that? Should I hyphen double-hyphen?), but that is a good one.

If it was a more regular poster, I wouldn't have. For someone to threaten death to someone else though on their first postings outside the Rumbles board? Come on, that's just silly.

This reminds me of some of the Bush statements, where he'd get the parts of a sentence so mixed up that it made no sense.
Of course, that's ASIDE from the fact that he's trying to blame juvenile violence on evolution, children being placed in daycare because their mothers work... and... for the life of me, I still can't figure out what the birth control pills are doing in that sentence.
Maybe he sees them as little animated pills (with arms, legs, and faces), that sit on kids' shoulders and urge them to go find Daddy's gun and play with it?
:D
Any way you look at it, his statement is stupid.
literally exaggerated

Last cinco de mayo, as I walked down broadway, I saw this exchange between a young kid who just walked by a bar full of really drunk people, and his mom.
"Mom why is everyone acting so funny?"
"Because today is cinco de mayo honey"
"Whats that?"
"Its the day when people act like Mexicans."
I could barely believe I'd just heard it

Well, he was an exterminator before he entered politics, so I'm guessing all the bug spray got to his brain.

One of my teachers said this, I couldn't believe that he said this:
"Anyone who shops at Wal-Mart is an imperialist."
Another one;
"Capitalism is basically a government with a tyrannical dictator."

Perhaps his intentions were, but even before he went all psycho, his methods kind of sucked.

This really weird kid in my shop class walked up to my friend and said "I want you to run around in your underware cause you'd look hot" and another time he said "Can I put my finger into your mouth?". No one likes him and he keeps on trying to touch my hand every chance he gets.

Speaking for the lesbian community, this is the generally accepted truism. One does not, however, have to be a member of the community to share in that belief.

You really ought not to put that in quotation marks, as I didn't actually say that.
It's slightly unfair to call somebody a liar unless you have quite a bit of evidence, not just guesswork and extrapolation.

That's why I used the apostrophe, instead of the quotationg marks. Gives the idea of me pretending to be you, without purporting to be an actual quote.
See?
Complaining about the fairness of stuff got a bit old when I did.

'Well he didn't actually say that, but...it kinda' sounds like him...I suppose'
'So we can at least agree that it's something Blair might say?'

Speaking of childish stuff, what the heck is wrong with Sharon Stone? Also Michael Douglas stating that people need to get their S*!t together and work on their marriages? I can't recall how many women, but once upon a time, Mr. Douglas was with a different woman every week.

One of my ex's had all of her apartment-mates refer to me as "Satan" or "The Devil".
The same ex, months later, wanted to meet up to talk about the nature of the breakup. I foolishly agreed. So we're sitting there and she pulled out a list of questions. It was a frickin' interview or something. Each one had me like 'I can't believe she just asked that.'

I came back from lunch just now and had one of these moments. Not a big one, but one that left me a loss for words for a second or two.
Once of my co-workers asks what I'm reading when she sees my big Box Office Poison trade. I quickly explain what it's about while she flips through it. She then asks, "So, what does it add?"
"What do you mean?"
"What does it add to the story because it's a graphic novel?"
I stammered a response about how I didn't know how to answer that question since it's only ever been a comic book and later a collected edition. That's it like asking what does a prose novel add to a story from being a prose novel even though it's never been anything other than a prose novel. Same thing with a movie or television show.
Then, she said, "Heh, sorry, I retract the question. I really should look into graphic novels more because my favorite section of the newspaper is the comics section."
Seeing someone interested, even if it's feigned interest, is a good thing so I said it may be better to figure out what graphic novel you might like by thinking about what prose novel, movies, or television shows you like instead of the comics section of the newspaper. Although, some of those are good too.
"What does it bring to the story because it's a graphic novel?"
It's not necessarily a stupid question, but it's a question no one's ever asked me before.

I can actually understand that. Sometimes people need to know about some things that went on during the relationship but they were afraid to ask due to the constraints of the "relationship environment"
Plus, all women are crazy. Everytime any of my female friends says something, I keep second guessing their motives for saying that something.

That's what I think too and have thought about it since lunch. It was one of those "He/She said what?" moments not because it was a stupid or strange statement, but because it's something I've never had anyone ask me, and I thought someone might have done so by now.
