What was the first time you went "online"?

I remember clearly. It was my senior year, probably 1997, and a friend of my just got "AOL"!!!
We spend like, 30 minutes trying to get on ECWWrestling.com (oh, dial-up) and we downloaded a picture of Sabu. I printed it and that picture hung on my dormroom wall for three years.

I admit I was a late bloomer to the 'net.

Who else has a fond memory of their first time?

I was at an uncle's place in 1997 and did a Yahoo search for Playboy while he was on the phone.

I was six and I went on Screwball Z cause I liked Dragonball Z, but it was a mature site although I didn't realize it. It was a cool site though, I wonder what happened to it...

my dad showed me how to use Internet explorer and I went to sports illustrated to read what they said about the Red Sox.

My first Internet search must've been 'chat room'. I was so curious.

Oh, and then I got incredibly addicted to chatting. The funny part of it all was that so many times people would say, "you must be fat".

Mine was probably in that year too; I was in 6th grade. My parents thought that the internet was evil and so wouldn't give me our dial-up password. It was only when I went to India for some time and hung out with my cousins that I became familiarized internet customs.

In 1993, my theater teacher in high school had to convince our school to let him get a connection to some crazy new interconnected computer service.

I saw the most basic-ass websites for third-rate celebrities, and looked up some legit research stuff. It was text only.

By the time I was in college, my roomate got AOL, and I spent most of my online time at Sub-Genius and stanley Kubrick usenet forums.

A year or so after that, I found CBR.

I got a Sega Netlink for the Sega Saturn and went online for the first time. Pages loaded slow. I was really into building webpages for a while. I spent so much time studying HTML from different websites like WebMonkey. Then... I discovered IRC chat. I would hang out in the Sega server for hours and hours. Eventually, it got old cause I got tired of being stuck in the house all the time. Now, I only go online when I'm at work and don't have anything to do.

LOL I remember that... back in the day you'd see the same people in the chat room day after day but they'd make fun of other people who visited that chatroom regularly saying stuff like "you must be ugly or fat or you wouldn't be here all the time" so they all made personal websites at like Geocities or Angelfire to post pictures of themselves and their chat buddies. That was back in like 1997-98.

I just searched for various things my first time online. I was amazed by what all was on here, and there wasn't much at all back in 1995. I eventually found a chatroom called Fun City. My first ever post online was "Hello, I'm Forefinger, and you aren't". After that I found an online 3D world called Alpha World where I spent a lot of time. After that I was on and offline for the next couple of years. In around 2002 or sometime I registered on CBR and posted a little. Then about a year ago I started posting more often after rediscovering it. So, CBR is one of the few places where I actually post and interact with people online.

I found CBR in 1999 but only registered for the forums in 2003.

Back in 1997, I was on AOL and would spend my chat time at the DC boards when guys like Erik Larsen, Gene Ha and John Beatty would be there.

Oh, you are all new kids to the block. I was "online" in bulletin boards in the early 90's before there was ever the Web. Come on, raise your hand all those that remember the great nerdy communities of the ol' BBS's. Boy, those were the days.
