Okay, so I picked up the first Showcase Presents Green Lantern book because it was cheap and so friggin huge, and I'm loving Hal and his advantures. I'm new to the DCU, but I have seen Kyle in action around town. I want to read some more Green Lantern stuff, but I'm not sure where to start. Is there a particularly good run that has been collected in a trade paperback that I should get, or should I just pick up the current title? From what I understand, there currently are three GL titles, each focusing on a different Lantern. What would you (the GL fans) recommend? I can't afford everything.

i think there are only two. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and Ion (Kyle Rayner). plus a GL Corps book (which isn't out yet)

i think most people will recommend you the Hal Jordan one, the latest issue (#10) is the One Year Later issue, which is a pretty decent jumping on point

For classic GL, there are the Archive editions, which you can usually get for around $35 on Amazon.com's Used & New listings.

In terms of GL trade paperbacks, I'd recommend:

Green Lantern / Green Arrow vol. 1 & 2 - Hands down the best run of the original series. More mature than the early stuff, yet not devoid of its own campiness. Hal and Ollie have such great rapport in these issues.

Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn - A retelling of Hal's origin with some new developments. Pretty good stuff.

As for the three new titles, I believe they're each going to be written so that you can read them seperately instead of having to buy all three each month. Green Lantern is one of DC's hottest books in general right now, and I would strongly recommend it for characterization, art, and action. Ion and the GL Corps are coming out very soon. No idea how those will be yet. There are only ten issues of the GL title thus far, so it should be easy to pick up back issues. I started with #8 and my local dealer still had the first seven lying around at the time.

Right you are UF! I recommend that you pick up GL #10 since it's the beginning of a brand-spankin'-new arch, and you'll have no trouble finding it since it's on the stands now.

The current GL Series is great. I got issues 1-3 way back when, but stopped buying, but was able to catch up quickly, since most are still around. Getting "Rebirth" would be a good idea too, just to see how some of the elements came about, but not required at all.

Good call. Rebirth was awesome, and if it's not in a TPB yet, it must be coming soon...

Rebirth has a hard cover trade out. I would suggest picking it up. It's awesome!
