Coming up on Tuesday:
* A look at SECRET WARS, and the peculiar reason why it failed to me.
* NEW AVENGERS: ILLUMINATI, and the peculiar reasons why it worked for me.
* A look ahead at the collections offered up in the Marvel section of the latest PREVIEWS.
* Some links to comics-related sites around the web, all of which I posted here already.

I'll be interested in reading your thoughts on the Marvel collections and the Illuminati book.

Man, I loved Secret Wars! True, as I kid I thought Colossus falling in love with that alien chick was dumb, but all the Doom parts were awesome. Especially the classic Reed Richards observation "Notice the first thing he did when he gained absolute power was to restore his face..." And come on, the issue where the Hulk holds up a mountain and all the other heroes are calling him stupid so he'll get angry enough to toss it? Awesome!
Plus, the ads for the action figures ruled - I can't remember much of them, other than they all had "DOOOOOOOOOM!" in 'em.

Would this be a bad time to mention that the review is of the more recent Bendis-penned SECRET WAR book?
Yeah, I thought so.
I've never read the original, come to think of it.
Wait -- this is my fault, isn't it? I wrote "WARS" when it should be "WAR." UGH -- sorry about that.

Actually as I recall Hulk didn't toss the mountain, while the big green Bruce Banner held up the mountain Reed jiggered with Iron Man's armor just well enough that he could blast a hole in said mountain.

You're right! But they egged the poor bugger on so it wouldn't collapse on them. Jim Shooter ruled.
