I know its 1 Year Later and I know were supposed to give the creators time to lure us with these new reads. But..is anyone else not into the book as they were when Gray and Palmiotti were doing it ? I'll give it the arc to lure me but thus far it doesn't seem to click with me as much.

Given the talent behind it, I was expecting a little more "oomph", yeah.
The momment I read that Carter was gone and the creative team, Palmiotti and Grey, were leaving. I had the book dropped from my pull list.
I could care less about Kendra. It would really be nice if she could re-place Huntress in BoP.

Simonson and Chaykin are among my favorite creators of all time. So I had high expectations for this issue. I liked it, but it didn't love it. I liked Chaykin's art a lot, but Walt's scripting underwhelmed me. I kinda enjoyed the old-fashionedness of it- thought balloons, a footnote!, expository dialogue- but it seemed more than a bit awkward. Simonson's strength as a writer has always been his plotting more than his words, but the story didn't move me much either. (I think I'd like this comic better if Chaykin was writing it and Simonson was drawing it. Maybe they can do an issue where they switch.) I like Kendra, but I wish Carter was still around. I'll be around for the next couple of issues, but I hope it picks up the pace soon.

I liked it. I bought it, just to see if it would be decent. It caught my interest enough to give it another shot.
I never got the series when Carter was the star, but I'm trying a lot of the OYL stuff. I wasn't blown away but it, but I enjoyed it enough to give it another couple issues.

Well, I'm not writing the book off - I thought the first issue was pretty good. But I really liked Palmiotti and Grey's work, and I'm more interested in Carter than in Kendra. So the book is kind of on thin ice with me for now.

Two great creators so I gave it a chance. Just more superhero stuff. Sure, it's better than DC's non-Morrison output, but that doesn't mean it's good enough for my money. A shame. I love Unca Walt.

I thought the story was interesting, but the art will take some getting used to. I like Kendra, so I'm sticking with it. I think it will get more interesting as it progresses.

I liked it, but not enough to return for a second look. There've been recent cuts to my pull-list, and this is one of the casualties.

I thought that it was okay, but this faux-Indiana Jones stuff with Kendra...
Hopefully, after this story line, they will bring back Carter. While I've never been a big fan of Simonson's writing and Chalkyn's been hit or miss ever since American Flagg, I still have high hopes for the title. Hawkman is just too cool of character to let die(figuratively and literately).

I thought it was a good set up issue, perhaps not as impressive as some of the other OYL books, but still a good read with some beautiful artwork. I'm interested in what's happening, and where Carter is, and I'll be sticking around for the forseeable future.
I should also point out that I wasn't a fan of the Palmiotti/Grey run.

I was really underwhelmed by this. I thought the art was good, but not spectacular and the writing was really not what I was expecting from Walt Simonson. But, it's kind of like Walt's Wonder Woman run, which was so boring. The Associated Press announced months prior to his stint on WW that she would be getting a new, camoflauged costume and would get her hair cut. When the storyline was released, she got a haircut, but no new uniform. Plus, the story just seemed to go nowhere. But, I digress...
Hawkgirl was good, but is one of the many comics that're bordering on being cut from my pull list.

It was a little underwhelming, but I did like it.
The next few issues will make or break it, I suppose.

The camoflauged costume thing seems to have been the result of the writer of the article mistaking the way Adam Hughes shades the metal of Wonder Woman's symbol for camo, so that explains that.
I liked Walt's Wonder Woman run a lot (certainly better than the run it followed and the run that followed it). I've been on the fence in regards to Hawkgirl. Is the first issue a self-contained story or the start of an arc? I could see myself picking up the former, but I don't feel like starting an arc.

Start of an arc. It does end with a cliffhanger.

Oh well.
Regarding the WW AP release--it's already been pointed out that the AP got the costume business wrong, probably from misinterpreting Adam's cover for our second issue. I was asked specifically about the new camo look by the interviewer who had seen the cover and told the interviewer that in fact, there was no new outfit. That comment didn't seem to make it into the 'news' release. In addition, the AP release came out either 1 or 2 days before the release of the comic, not months before. It's possible that it came out the day before our first issue and not our second; I don't remember at this point. But that would still put the release only a month ahead of the issue in question.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll wait and see what the buzz is and maybe pick up a trade down the line. I was really looking forward to this title, but part of what's turning me off is the art. I like Chaykin (a lot), but since when are Kendra's breasts twice as big as her head? Meh.

I like this book and am happy to have thought balloons. I'm happy too to see Kendra as Kendra and not just as Hawkgirl: Its good to see the woman and not just the costume. Claremont's X-Men were never better than during the run with Romita jr when they were often in civil clothes or in costumes that looked like civil clothes. The same can be said for God Loves Man Kills (add to that Claremont/Byrne/Austin+ Claremont/Paul Smith and some Cockrum issues, and you'll the best of the x-men). In a time were most of the superheroes comics looks for the most part like a bruckheimer production, this is fresh air. And thats one of the reasons for which I like Nextwave by Ellis and Immonen too.
Don't get me wrong: I like the costumes and I want to see Kendra in costume, but we have time for that and it is good to learn more about Kendra personality and life before. I don't want an all action book without deepth or mystery. I like the inquest side, the lovecraftian side. I like when there is mysteries in the books i read, and not just fights, fights and fights.
I like when there's a story and not just action.
I like when comics looks like comics and not just like poor TV shows.
I like when there's something to read.
I like the art and the story on this book.
I like Hawkgirl.

To me it just doesn't click as well as the Grey/Palmiotti run . Carter was DA MAN. Plus the art kicked some serious behind too. ;)

I like Carter too, but what I don't like what I read of Grey/Palmiotti on this book as much as the first Hawkgirl issue by Simonson and Chaykin.
Oh, by the way i did edit my previous post to complet it and make my position about what is for me the best of the X-Men clearer: Claremont/Byrne/Austin = God Loves, Man Kills= Claremont/Paul Smith = Claremont/Romita jr. add some of the Cockrum issues (the best ones), and you got it.
Till this day the best of Simonson as a writer is for me is his work on Thor. I didn't read his Orion (allways wanted, and never did cause too many books already on my pull list at the time). His fantastic Four run was good, but not my favorite. His short avenger run... *cough* *cough* ;) (i know you read this thread mr Simonson, and I did read your post about it in the "Why was Roger Stern Fired from the Avenger thread", but sorry I'm really not a fan of the post Stern avengers (Est coast I mean). I never liked it again till Busiek/Perez, yeeeaaars later.). My favorite Simonson runs as the artist are on X-Factor, Thor, X-Men/Teen Titans and FF.
I really have a feeling that we can hope for Hawkgirl something as good as the Thor run.
About Elric I'm waiting for the trade. Moorcock fan here (favorite Moorcock books: Stormbringer, The Sailor on the Seas of Fate, The Jewel in the Skull/The Mad God's Amulet, the 3 novels of the Dancers at the end of times, the first Corum novel and the Oswald Bastable books.) I've heard/read only good things about your Elric series. I hope MM get well now.
I'm usually not a big fan of Howard Chaykin even if he is a great talent. just not my cup of tea. usually. But this time he really did an awesome job on the art. I totaly love it!
Mr Simonson:
Can we hope to see your wife Louise on a book soon?
I miss her stories.

I am new enough to Anything dealing with HawkGirl to find it interesting.I really am getting my first glipse of Kendra thru OYL now that its her title. She seems like an interesting enough char but i think the book would do better as Hawkman, then again i would rather read aboput an interesting tough female char then another macho guy clone. The supernatural theme that seems to be where her solo title is headed really has grabed my interest.I would almost say Lovecraft like with ancient tombs an secrets your not suppose to go searching after if you had enough common sense, but its something i intend to give a few issues worth of tries to be for i drop it being budget minded
