oz, period. dark and with a true feel to it. prison break is good but about escaping prison. and the prison life 'break' shows, is directly related to the people involved in the escape, while oz has arcs about major and minor characters living their prison sentence.

Yes! I agree with you 100%!

Oz is far more darker, ruthless than PB
I mean where else can you see Irish/Sicillians/Homeboys/Ayrans/Chinese/Black Muslims/Bikers all having to deal with each other.

OZ.

I hate Prison Break solely because they shut down my block to film that stupid show, and I have no place to park.

Which one has the least male-male rape? I vote for that one.

I think that would be The Black Muslims led by Minister Karim Said, they belive in non-violent resistance. I mean when Said was killed by Yidizk as he was dying he told his brothers not to harm him! And then Yidizk ended up killing Omar 'Crackhead' White!

That's something that you won't find in PB!

then you'll love pb, afaik there's not one instance, tho it may be implied or alluded to. hell it is a prison, just cuz they don't portray it...

Personally, I think they're a bit too different to acurately choose one over the other. I'd probably say that I like them equally, but for different reasons.

I don't really consider Prison Break a prison drama. It's more of an action film that takes place in a prison.

Oz was about life in prison. I loved watching it with a friend of mine who had actually spent some time in prison (a long time ago). He was so: "That's sooo not what prison life is like", but he was as hooked as the rest of us.

I agree with you one hundred percent. Especially the true feel part. That is why I like Prison Break 100% better than Oz. I work around that shit all day, and Oz even dramatized it a lot compared to what the real life is. Prison Break is fun, peppy (yes it finally got its mojo back after the break for me.), and always keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's what it is, an action movie in prison. It's fun to watch. Oz was not. For me at least.

Oz by far. One of the more unpredictable shows of all time as major charcaters were killed off on a regular basis. Lot of good actor's on that show too.

Same here. I actually think the turn for the worse happened when they killed off Adebisi.

I'm actually in the middle of re-watching that season. Last night I got to where Beecher's kids get kidnapped. Very messed up but very entertaining. If I had to choose my favorite season it would have to be season 2. Season 3 is a close second just for the boxing.

schillinger shoulda gotten it 10x worse for all the things he did

You know, I don't really remember either. Forget Beecher, Schillinger did a number on that boy. Chopped of his hand, kidnapped him, killed his mom, raped his dad, etc. etc....

Not that I recall. I remember it was some reporter that did it. It made no sense to kill off Said at that time. Him, O'Riley, Adebisi, and Beecher should have been the guys to live in my opinion.

Realistically OZ is probably the better prison drama when it comes to reflecting more reality in terms of what it's like in prison.

However, I was never able to get into the show when it ran on HBO.

I liked Prison Break from the start.

Oz was one of the greatest shows of all time. I just finished the entire run, and while in its latter seasons it went downhill, it had 3 and a half seasons (right up to the murder of adebisi, right before that ridiculous plot about the aging pill that IMO was when the show sorta jumped the shark) of being absolutely perfect. Perfectly written, perfectly acted, perfectly shot. It was somehow stylized and artsy, and gritty and realistic, simultaneously. It had a massive cast of incredibly diverse and complex characters, every one of whom was grey and complex to some degree, most of whom were in some way sympathetic, and yet nearly all of whom were all deeply messed up and kinda terrifying. Oz pulled no punches, and at times reached levels of emotional intensity basically unrivalled in any other TV show I'm aware of.

Prison Break is popcorn fun. Entertaining and engaging, but hardly moving, nothing that will change the way you look at the world or wake you up in the middle of the night. Its certainly fun, but it really doesn't compare in quality to Oz.

I've seen every ep of Oz, and Prison Break coudln't keep my attention for more than 5 minutes. Having been inside a prison (as a visitor, thank God!), I found Oz to be frighteningly real, while what's permitted to be shown or said on broadcast TV is so watered down that there's just no point in watching.

Pretty much like what most of the folks say I like Oz better due to that it was more realistic and it has characters you could identify with on some level. Tobias Beecher has got to be one of the most tragic characters that ever appear on Oz, the minute he entered Oz his life turned into crap.

While I didn't enjoy Kareem Said getting killed I was really pissed that Leo, one of the Wardens in Oz, got killed by a lowlife security guard. I guess his death was sort of a message that not even Wardens is safe in OZ.
