I'm not going to get into the lateness of the book. I don't really care. All I know is I liked the story.
And what a story it was. BIG FIGHT SCENE. Ellis knows how to write a big fight scene. Granov knows how to draw/paint/render a big fight scene, and this one delivers. I won't get too descriptive about the fight other to say that Iron Man won and it was AWESOME.
I'm assuming that Iron Man doesn't have the same strict code against killing that other superheroes have, because he kills Mallen at the end. Of course, it was one of those "him or me" situations, but I dunno if Iron Man had to kick his still-moving, headless corpse after he went down.
The new armor is very cool, as were the few bits that showed Tony's new powers in action. That bit with the city power grid was pretty smart.
I can't wait to see this story in a collected edition. It probably should have been released that way.

Without a doubt the most action packed, kickass issue of Iron Man yet.
Love, LOVE the newer streamlined armor and it's new functions. All the upgrades are basically the ones I wanted to see (and I'm sure a few others did too). I'm glad Iron Man killed Mallen, he had it coming and I didn't see it as something out of character for Tony to do since he was in danger and tried to subdue him peacefully. The kicking of the corpse, although not exactly a good way of dealing with anger, was understandable since he was frustrated that things had to come to that.
I was surprised to see that Maya was also behind Mallen getting the Extremis but I'm sure reading the story all over with all the issues out will make it more obvious and sensical. What was funny was how in the first issue Tony sort of didn't like what he saw in the mirror and then in this issue he says that he could bear to see himself in the mirror now both as a comment to Maya and speaking of himself.
Adi Granov's art is just spectacular, it's a shame that it took so damn long to see it too but at least the main, more important story is out of the way so that the following creative teams can work from there. I'm gonna miss Adi though and the upcoming art will make it harder to adjust after such richly texture and well crafted artwork.

I could not agree with you post more. You saved me from having to make the same points, which would have been undoubtably more poorly worded :D The Maya deal messed me up too, really didn't see it coming....even looking back I didn;t see it.

Hey, great minds think alike ;)
I liked how Ellis handled the reboot if you will. I started reading IM with the start of JJM's run so I was happy to see he kept it so Tony was able to attach is suit in the same manner, via the suit case. No problem with the head ripped off and the kick. Nothing wrong with it.
I was a little disappointed in the Maya discovery. I was hoping that she would be a love interest. The only clues that I noticed that Maya was involved, was the double card to open the lab. I will be honest though, I never saw it coming or put 2 & 2 together on that one.
All in all a good read. I am enjoying Casey's work also. I like how the Inevitable is some what tied in with Ellis' run. It seems to be a good time to be an IM fan.

Of course the question is wether or not this new Iron Man "upgrade" will be considered canon or not. It seems like too big of a change to not be mentioned in New Avengers or the other IM titles.

Iron Man is drawn with the new armor in what little we've seen of him in early Civil War images, and the upcoming creative team on Iron Man will be using the new powers and armor.
So yeah, the changes seem to be sticking.

While I enjoyed the whole Extremis story, the last issue seemed kind of... well, I don't want to say lackluster, but for some reason I was expecting more. Of what, I'm not sure, as it certainly was a nice action packed issue. Nyeh. Either way, I'm not so much a fan of the new armor, mainly the helmet. The design around the eyes makes it look as if he's crying. I liked the older armor he just switched from, which might stick as my favorite for a while. Either way, I'm eager to see where the next creative team takes Shellhead. I also will be purchasing the Extremis hardback/trade whenever it comes out, because the art in this story is just too good to be mucked by advertisements every three pages.
