Anyone here enjoy Grisham?

My favorite movie based on his work is The Client. Pelican Brief was too slow for me. A Time to kill was cool as well.

I've enjoyed what I've seen, but the ones I really remember liking are The Client (the book was great, too) and The Rainmaker.

You know, I haven't seen Rainmaker or read it even.

I need to get that next.

It was on TV a couple of weekends ago, and while I wasn't able to catch the end, I enjoyed what I saw. Good cast, too: Matt Damon, Danny Glover, Danny DeVito, Claire Daines, Mickey Rourke, and Dean Stockton.

I'm pretty sure I have seen all the Grisham based movies except Gingerbread Man and I have to say that while I dont think any of them are masterpieces, I have enjoyed them all.
If I had to pick a favorite I'd say A Time To Kill. It was the best paced of them all. Rainmaker and Runaway Jury were good too. Client, Firm and Pelican Brief were all o.k.

Yeah, I've seen them all. I liked The Firm, The Client, and A Time to Kill.

I really didn't like The Chamber, The Gingerbread Man, and The Pelican Brief.

Grisham books are fun quick reads, and breezy, pretty decent movies. Though, I really wish they would make The Testament as a movie, because I think it is the best Grisham book.

Testament is good, but I thought Street Lawyer was better...imo. It just gave me a feel-good vibe because it felt like the book was about doing the right thing and the little guy sticking it to The Man.

Never read his books but I've seen most of the movies. For the most part the movies come across like I expect his books do: workmanlike product with a kind of utilitarian entertainment quotient.

Can you say that again, perhaps in English? :D

I can loan you a dictionary if you need one.

Are you making fun of me since English is not my first language?

Could you please just explain it in simpler terms? Thank you. :)

I'd like to see "The King of Torts" made into a movie. That's probably my favorite Grisham book behind "The Firm".

I liked The Pelican Brief, The Firm, The Rainmaker, and The Client in that order.

However, all four were much better as books. Not just because of any changes, but they were just more intense in the books. I will say that the Rainmaker came closest to the feel of the book for me though.

A Time To Kill was okay, but they changed a very important part of the ending and added the Sandra Bullock character who flat out sucked.

It's predictable and by-the-numbers work.

The worst Grisham movie is Runaway Jury. An anti-gun propaganda film (which started life a piece on the tobacco industry)

lol, I'm sorry Blair, I agree with you, but reading that, and seeing the cat blowing things straight to hell in your avatar just made me chuckle out loud.

Doesn't that cat ever need to reload his ammo?

He has a high capacity magazine, and enough ammo to kill God.

Runaway Jury is far and away my favorite Grisham-based film.

I liked The Client and A Time To Kill. Thought The Firm was OK but it was pretty by-the-numbers. The Chamber was too boring to finish.

I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it

One of the classes I'm taking this year in Law School is "Law, Film and Popular Culture". All Runaway Jury does is apply the same old conventions that are present in every single law film ever and applies them in the most cliched way possible.

"I hate Baptists almost as much as I hate Democrats"

I mean what kind of bumf is that? It's the typical demonisation of conservatives that even Michael Moore would be proud of. WE GET IT! HE'S EVIL

At the end the "evil" gun companies are destroyed, and we see children playing on the road. Everything is all sunshine and candy smiles...the children can't possibly die now! Unless they get run over whilst playing on the road of course.

RUNAWAY JURY 2: Time to take on the car industry!

Runaway Jury was barely adequate as a book, I can only imagine how painful the movie was.

Well, I've never read any of Grisham's books and have no intention of ever doing so. But, as a general rule, the quality of one usually has little to do with the quality of the other.

Most of the movies are only loosely based on the books as the plots diverge so much. Thats not always bad - I liked both the book and movie versions of The Firm. And at least none of the movies I've seen (I haven't seen Runaway Jury) have bastardized the books as bad as many movies based on Stephen King's works have.
