Last night I was getting the Tot ready for bed. After she put her PJs on, she announced that her feet were cold and she wanted to wear socks to bed.

“Alright,” I say, and I get up to get socks from the top drawer.

“No, no daddy, sit. I know what to do.”

Intrigued, I sit down. She proceeds to walk over to her robe on it’s hook and take a bundled up pair of socks out of a pocket.

“See? I have socks!”

“Tot, why are there socks in your robe?”

“Oh. I put them there. If I need socks, they’re in my robe. Like now. See?”

“Hnh.”

Frankly, it was a pretty good idea and I’m still impressed.

---

Later that night, Suzannah and I were sitting and chatting about life, the universe, and everything and she suddenly began praising my house husbanding. Apparently my new obsession with not going to bed until all the dishes are done and food ready for the next day and everything just so has not gone unnoticed.

In short, I am in my happy place right now.

Truly touchning. (to contunue with the "T" alliteration.)

What'd I do now?

What, you're from New Zealand now?

It is, and so am I.

You know, I've heard that there are people who go to bed with the dishes undone or the meals not planned for the following day, but I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with them.

*sigh* Sometimes being gimpy means having to leave the dishes undone.

Good job man. I usually just do the dishes (since I cannot STAND to eat breakfast in a dirty kitchen), and that's only if I have the energy before bed.

And that was a good idea of your daughter's.

You know, I've heard that there are people who go to bed with the dishes undone or the meals not planned for the following day, but I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with them.

Ok, that didn't come off like I intended.

It was intended as a joke about how I'm concerned with cleanliness to the point that I won't go to bed without everything clean and ready for the next day. No judgement of others is intended, and I apologize if anyone interpreted it in that way.

No foul. ^_^ I figured it was. Just aggrivates me sometimes that I can't keep house to the standards I'd like it all the time. Prob'ly made my reply sound more than I meant it to.

The first story was cute and shows the scary level of logic Tot applies to life. I'm confused how the second story is a tale of Tot though. Are you making her wash the dishes and prepare the next day's meal?

He didn't say it was. Unless he was a sneaky bastard and changed the title of the thread. ;)

Too late! :D ;)

We are very... improvisational around our household. :D

Morts, those are great stories. :)

Ditto with the cute stories.

Also, the quote is both lovely (Ha! You tricked her into being friends! ) and oddly sexy.

Dirty girl... ;)

There are as many ways to be improvisational as there are musical notes that have ever been played.... (How the hell DO you spell "improvisational"? With an "o" or an "i"??? Argh.)

Does she put in new socks each day?

Or are there dirty socks rubbing fungus all over her feet while she sleeps?

Either he did or I can't read. Let's blame him.

They're two tales of Typo, not two tales of Typo Tot.

We are very... improvisational around our household.

You obviously aren't Japanese. We're so organized we schedule times to improvise, and must begin improvising on time, or it's a big waste.

There are as many ways to be improvisational as there are musical notes that have ever been played

So, um, eleven?

Also, I loved the stories, especially the Tot one. Every time I read a Tot or Finn story, it makes me want to have a little one of my own. My eighteen little ones are all wonderful, and I love them every one, but

Tot fell asleep on her own for the second night in a row.

If she does it all week she gets to see Ice Age 2.

Well, I know that would be incentive enough for me!

It's always heartening to hear someone using love and positive reinforcement as parenting tools. I've seen far too many parents who don't seem to have those tools in their parenting kits.

How does she normally fall asleep?

Daddy comes in and gives her a tablespoon of brandy?

You play who can hold their breath the longest and just hope she passes out first?

You make her listen to Jay Leno's opening monoluges?

You explain detailed comic book history to her, and also argue that Superboy becoming Valor wasn't a huge cop out?

I never want to be a guest in Morts's household. I'd get up in the middle of the night and think to myself "These people aren't fighting or bitching or screaming at each other, they actually get along. This isn't a family. These people are freaks."

Oh we fight. Tot especially can be a stubborn, rude child. Nipping that in the bud is our life's goal.

Pixar don't have anything out for months though...
And Lasseter hasn't had time to fix Disney's animation division...
