Was the Age of Apocalypse series apart of the 616 Universe or was it an alternate universe?

Exactly how long did it continue? Was it ongoing for a while or was it just another event similar to House of M, upcoming Civil War?

The Age of Apocalypse was essentially the 616 Universe altered (much like the House of M) due to a change in the time-stream. Legion went back in time to kill Magneto & accidentally killed Xavier instead, and the world changed to accomodate this. It was an event like the House of M, that went on for months (all the X-titles were revamped to 4 issue limited series to accomodate the new reality), and then things reverted back to normal. There were some after effects, but nothing major. Although the story is looked fondly on nearly eleven years later.

Unfortunately it was honored "badly" last year by Marvel with a series of cruddly one-shots & a mini-series that pretty much thrashed the original storyline.

Yeah, i'd agree with that. It was a dilution.

Although, I prefer to think of this as an alternate universe, rather than a direct continuation of the AoA. Afterall this was not 616.

Well, the one-shot was actually good since it was past tales from the universe. The Sabretooth/Wild Child team-up origin being the best of the bunch, in my honest opinion. And the AoA Exiles visit was fairly good also. It was mostly the main series that sucked. But that's more to do with the writer choice, as most of Yoshida's work has been downright awful. And his continuity blunders didn't help.

And Sword, it's explained right in the new series that Jean/Phoenix stopped the bombs from falling and severed the reality from being undone at the end of the of the original series, establishing it as it's own alternate reality. So it was 616, but it now has it's own Universe number. :)

I did like the one-shot, yes. It did feature some quite interesting material. Especially like the artwork in the Colossus story - who was that?

Yeah, I know it was explained away, and that it was now a seperate universe, bu6t it always felt like this was more to allow Marvel to keep on making these occasional series to cash in, rather than a proper continuation of the AoA - which did end obviously.

And despite being a Bachalo fan I did not think he was the best match of art style to this title.

Agreed. I may not like Bachelo, but his work on the AoA: 10th was just painful. Including the psycho-clown Mr. Sinister. I believe he said that he was rushed, since it was supposed to be a weekly event. But still, it was painful. I'm just glad his work isn't quite so eyesore in Uncanny. Let's hope it stays that way.

I didn't get to read either until this weekend. I picked up the trade yesterday which included the new AOA one shot and the mini-series. It wasn't that bad, in my opinion. Yeah, there were some slight changes, but I enjoyed reading it. And sorta glad that the AOA universe is still around.

Man, I want to get those. But with the amount of comics I get every month and how expensive they are, it's pretty much impossible for me to do so right now. That sucks.

The new series was great in my opinion. The art was cool too.

I thought it looked cool too...in some ways I'd rather read about AoA than some of the current X-books.

As far as I know, only 1 and 2 are out right now, but I may be wrong. Also, I think there's 5 volumes. I can't check right now b/c I'm at school...not doing my work.
