I saw a funny skit on MAD TV addressing this topic. Basically the story of Brokeback Mountain...only with lesbians.
The skit strongly suggested that if Brokeback Mountain were about lesbians, the publicity (whether benign or antagonistic) wouldn't have been as severe. Do you disagree or agree?

Do you disagree or agree?Didn't see the skit, but I agree. Lesbianism is a lot more accepted than male homosexuality. I'd even go so far as to say that it's trendier, to a certain extent.

I know what all those words mean, but that sentence makes no sense.
Oh, and "benign" and "benevolent" aren't antonyms.

A short summary:
Retelling the story of BB...except with lesbians. Instead of the wives going nuts we have the husbands jumping for joy that their wives are "rug-munchers". The husbands proceed to spy on their wives making out on Brokeback Mountain.

I saw that, it was the funniest thing I've seen on Mad TV since Dr. Funkenstein meets Blacula.
[The cowgirls are sitting at a camp fire looking at each other awkwardly.]
Cowgirl #1: I want to stop seeing you, but my husband won't let me.
Cowgirl #2: Mine neither.
Cowgirl #1: Matter of fact, my husband drove me here. [glances off to stage left, where a grinning man is crouched in the bushes with a camera.]
Cowgirl #2: Mine too. [glaces off to stage right, where another grinning man is dressed up in a tree costume.]

well, Brokeback Mountain the original featured Jake Gyllenhal and Heath Ledger. I'm no expert, but even I can tell that neither guy is exactly ugly.
So, actually, having two actresses like Scarlett Johansen and Halle Berry or Angelina Jolie or something, would be entirely in keeping with the original picture.. And I doubt it would have caused any sort of uproar at all except among Phelps types.

Lesbians love camping and nature so its just a matter of time until the sequel comes out...
But, it will be called Brokeback Mountain 2:My Canoe or Yours?
