View Full Version : If you could have ONE female Avenger join the team...

Let's say you have the power to have one single heroine join the current Avengers line-up, who would it be?
Take into consideration availability (is she dead? Depowered?), power level, how well you think she would get along with the rest of the team, drama-possibilities OR simply name a female you would love to see on the team.
In any case, I would love to se your ideas and opinions...and what you would do, and why.
Thanks!
I would have Storm join the team.
Amazing raw power, strong leadership skills, a character in dire need of leaving the X-ghetto and having her character explored and enriched.
She has ties to Wolverine, has interacted with Spider-Woman before, and has had dealings with Cap and Tony through the years.
She could also bring a whole new number of villains to the book, and I think she would be a better fit for the team than Wolverine...

Echo, from Daredevil just because she has a great power and needs to be used more in the marvel universe. I think a team would exspand the character.

Ms. Marvel--In a little while i feel she will join the avengers anyway, because i think bendis actually does care for this character, and hopefully will take good care of her.
Dazzler-Let's see him give some love to this character like he did Spider-Woman, and who knows, she might explode like Jess did.
She-Hulk-If someone else was writing the book, i don't like bendis' Shulkie.

Didn't she die in Grant Morrison's New X-men run? (not that that really matters, after all, it's not like there's a dead means dead rule or anything! :D ).

Dead Girl. Just due to her inherent awesomness.
Hmmm... given the current storylines, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel are probably the most naural fits.
Storm would be cool since she's not being used by the X books, and since she is sort of becoming a part of the Avengers family by marrying Panther.
If Bendis were to pull someone out of the blue, I might go with Sersi (plus, if the Eternals are getting their own series soon a bit of New Avengers exposure certainly wouldn't hurt anything).

Definitely Thundra.
I'd like to see someone rescue her from obscurity -- and her lame marriage to Arkon. I've always found her to be a visually interesting character -- plus she kicks ass.

I would love to see Storm join for many of the same reasons others have posted. I just think it's time for her to join the big leagues.
Barring that, I would put Danielle Moonstar on the team. After being Decimated, she becomes recharged with the return of Asgard and becomes the new Valkyrie. The X-Titles have treated her pretty poorly over the years so it would be nice to see her take a position with Earth's Mightiest Heroes!

Storm would be an excellent choice. She has a poweset unlike anyone on the team, and she would be great for team dynamics. Being a leader in her own right, there would probably be issues with Iron Man and Captain America. I imagine her interactions with Spider-Woman, Spider-Man, and Luke Cage would also be very interesting.
I'd also like to see Ms. Marvel join. It's just wrong that she isn't on this team.
Anyway, one or both of these characters joining would be great.

Storm is the Marvel woman who HASN'T been an Avenger who most fits the bill! I would rather see Storm in the ranks than Logan--maybe he can nominate Ororo for membership when he eventually leaves the team for one of his spur-of-the-moment sabbaticals to Asia? The team draws natural leaders, and Storm possesses a generous amount of leadership skill. Impressive powers, a slew of non-powered skills, experience, and a strong moral center all qualify Storm for the Avengers!
That said, a good runner-up would be Dazzler. Ali's powers are fairly unique and high-level with the right level of sound absorbed. Her powers are also highly versatile, which Cap could maximize to ridiculous advantage in workouts and team-work on the battle field. Imagine a rematch with T-Bolts if Dazzler was in the mix! "Songbird? Remember Dazzler? Get ready for some REAL hard-light!"

To which Songbird would question what Cap was smoking since her powers don't involve light at all, but sound. Maybe he was thinking of Quasar. Who would more than likely chew Dazzler up and spit her out.
Assuming that he's not having a thing with Living Lightning. They were on that space station for an awful long time together.

Dazzler absorbs sound and turns it to light; she defeated Klaw that way. Since Klaw's tech was the basis for Songbird's harness, and Dazz whupped her years back, I think it'd be a cool rematch.
BTW, Songbird's carapace turns sound into hard-light constructs, as long as Melissa screams. I HAVE read a T-Bolts issue or two, y'know. ;)

Hard sound constructs which come in a perky, pretty shade of pink. Seems like there's a light component if there's color in a construct.
I know that you're hungry for thread-drift, but isn't this quibble a pretty silly excuse to make one?

Light or sound, big deal one way or the other. Can we get her in a man-suit, or not?

Ms. Marvel definitely...I mean she's already been in New Avengers as much as Sentry. Parenthetically, this New Avengers roster that was advertised was a gyp. There is no Sentry and no Ronin...weak.
Carol Danvers has my strong vote though, but no Storm, unless Panther comes with her.

I am surprized nobody said "hey, Echo's all ready on the team." My lack of reading the title went right passed everybody. I do know she is dressed like a guy though. Why didn't bendis keep her looking like Macks creation in DD? I loved the character in the Mack runs. Changing her apperence sucks.

i really think the NA is fine as it is.
There doesn't need to be another leader type on the team, unless you go ahead and subgroup it to 3 strike teams. sorry, i'm not a storm fan in any stretch anyway. with all the characters already active, you're just going to stretch the focus further with more characterization of too many characters at once. maybe just make the NA more a team of loosely associated characters, and they get together once in a while on days off, or special missions, etc. not as rigidly defined as aveng/w. coast aveng. then a smaller group of people could be more fully developed. and sometimes they can 'screw up' by sending one team with too much power and another team has not enough. let a hero be disabled for a while, esp any character who's in more than 2 books a month. obviously this would be a rookie mistake, esp for these 'old hands' at adventuring. but maybe something forced their hand, they were in a catch 22 of some type. maybe force a growth of a character by making spiderman lead wolverine, cap america.
and jocasta would just be an answer to the lost vision, imo. why not an alien? and i don't mean a humanoid one. maybe go the magic route, but delve more into an animus or animal mysticism bent rather than a dr strange.
and do you guys just want another chick for more 'jiggling'? female characters kick ass, i've always enjoyed them. but why can't this be rather iconoclastic and be more of a boy's club.
like i said, i think it's fine as is, period. but why not go a little bit different than the 5 or 6 that were often nominated. not the same mutant, same white chick, same stereotype.

I put my vote for Dazzler. I think she would be great as an Avenger, I mean didn't she get asked more than one time to join. Its high time she did. Though it would be a hard sale since she would be riding the nostalgia wave.
Of any former Avenger, I put the vote to Wasp. I don't know why but any collection of people using Avengers as a name doesn't ring true without her.
