The Fifties didn't really have actual LPs so I can't really answer that one.
The Sixties is a toss up between The Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed and the Beatles' Abbey Road (both 1969). Abbey Road just wins.
The Seventies belonged to the Who with Quadrophenia (1973).
The Eighties... er, Imperial Bedroom (1982) by Elvis Costello I think.
The best album from the Ninetees that I've heard is Bob Dylan's amazing comeback album Time Out of Mind (1997)
From the 00s, I would actually go with Paul McCartney's amazing comeback album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005)

Eh, all right, fair enough. I wasn't really thinking of jazz when I wrote that. True enough about the Elvis thing though it's still fair to say that albums weren't the focus of early rock and roll.

Damn this is tough, but i'll go with.....
60's-If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears(The Mama's and Papa's) .Pretty big fan of this group. Ham Sandwiches? Not so much.
70's- Al Green Greatest Hits (Al Green). Forget Marvin Gaye. Al Green is the mother fucking man. Yes, I know I am cheating here but 1. This is my favorite CD. 2. This is my fucking list.
80's-Don't be Cruel (Bobby Brown). Laugh it up. But at one time Bobby Brown was a talented artist. My Prerogative, Don't be Cruel, Every Little Step, and Roni are four of my favorite 80's tracks.
90's- The Predator (Ice Cube). Came out after the Rodney King riots. Ice Cube was fucking PISSED. No bling blinging in this album.
00's-The Marshall Mathers LP (Eminem). Eminem's best CD by a long shot.

50s - Miles Davis, Kind of Blue. My favorite album of all time.
60s - Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison. Greatest live album ever. (though I like the song selection on San Quentin better).
70s - Waylon Jennings, Honkey Tonk Heroes and Willie Nelson, Stardust. This one was hard. Waylon and Willie were probably the most consistently great country stars in the 70s. And any of a half dozen albums by either could go here. I went with the one that arguably started the "Outlaw" movement and the one that probably finished it.
80s - Stevie Ray Vaughan, Texas Flood. I'd make the argument that Stevie's first album was his greatest statement.
90s - Joe Henderson, So Near, So Far (Musings for Miles). Incredible jazz album.
00s - Merle Haggard, Roots, Vol. 1. Nearly as good as the best of Cash's American Recordings. Better than the ones Cash did in the 00s.
