X-Men:DG #4 (SPOILERS)

you know, after reading X-Men: D. Genesis #4 , I realized something. During the training sequence of the X-Men 1.5 team that took place within Xavier's mental "projection", the team was initially wearing the blue and gold costume. The thing is the costumes were without the mask and resembled the updated version of the 90s. Was this a continuity error or was there a period in the 60s where mask was ommited. Because I remember Kitty's original costume resembling the one that the first team wore...with the mask.
