Who is Doop? What does he do? Is it a he? Why in the world do so many folks actually like Doop - I read X-Statix #1 and found what he did at the end to leave the taste of month-old milk in my mouth. Whole milk, at that.
I don't care which direction this thread goes in. I just want some definitive answers of powers, *what* he is, etc. as well as personal opinion input from other posters.

The hardcore X-Statix fans love this guy.
I just see him as a bug eyed monster who gets on my nerves, and does really fit in any context away from X-Statix.

I'm sure others could give more details, but in essence he is a floating green wad of space jizz that is both a giver and reciever, if you're pickin up what I'm puttin down. That and he's one of the most powerful beings EVER, incalcuable strength, stamina, agility, energy projection, etc.

He's just a funny little green blob that used to hang around the X-Statix. The implication that he is ultra-powerful was mostly a joke, like most things having to do with X-Statix. A decent sense of humor is a requirement when dealing with Doop. He was never meant to be taken seriously, he's just a funny green guy that no one should be spending that much energy thinking about.

Honestly man, their character profile says so, even if it is a joke they're still considering it cannon whether the Fuggin green cumwad is dead or not! Even if he is a comedic character he can still be considered that powerful.

Comic books have to be so serious all the time. I think the biggest selling point to Doop was he was a bright green, nonsense talking, floating lumpy freak who hangs out and drinks beer with wolverine.
Some folks like their heroes a little abstract.
It was a refreshing character design for those of us that had to live through the liefeld/Lee 90’s comic years. If I NEVER see one more pair of spikey shoulder-pads it’ll be too soon!
He was silly, and funny, and neat to look at. He was the irreverent wet-blanket thrown on the ultra serious comic market. He was the media darling that comics needed.
Doop is good soup!

I hope that Milligan's Daap/Lorna plot is abandonned and never refered to again.
Doop never served a plot in X-Statix; he was an empty deus ex machina, a plot device. Basically, Doop is whatever people want him to be because he was never developed as a true character.

By the way, DDM, you've used the phrase "deus ex machina" 19 times in the forums.
Another thing about Doop- He's meant to be kind of the poster child/icon for mutant pride, which is pretty hilarious in itself. When he was introduced, characters in lots of other Marvel books were seen owning Doop keychains, posters and toys and wearing Doop t-shirts. Molly in Runaways even made a reference to having a Doop poster just a few issues ago.

Wow. 18 replies and still the most defining thing I've discovered is a lotta folks like him and a lotta folks don't.
Which is he? Space jizz or a mutant? If he's space jizz, how can he be the poster child for mutant pride? If he's a mutant, what happened that he looks like that instead of looking like a man?
(Is this one of those Chuck Norris things that you're either a fan of or you're not, but there's no real rhyme or reason?)

Doop was a cold war weapon that was so powerful he basically ended the cold war. But he also has some sort of a family (they mentioned the X-Statix headquarters had a spare room built for his relatives) and that is where Daap comes in.
Doop has powerful energy projection powers, psychic powers, time manipulation powers, has an entire dimension inside of himself, is strong enough to throw down with Thor, and is worthy enough to wield Mjollnir, and is apparently a priest. Also he can make people gay.
Doop is the shit! He is just adorable.

He's apparently some sort of cold war superweapon engineered by the Soviets. His origins could be from outer space, but he strongly identifies as a mutant, so I bet he's X-gene positive even if his origins are somewhat other-worldly. Kinda like Vulcan may turn out to be in XMDG.
He's basically everything awesome you could imagine for a superhero packaged in the body of a floating green potato.
No more ridiculous than say, Phoenix I, II or III. Just with added irony.

Doop is just a fun, cool, silly character. He's everymutant, and the quintessential "mutant hero with a dark, dark past." He had many secrets, a dark side, and used to hang out with Wolverine.
And probably one of the more interesting character designs at Marvel for the past 10 or 15 years. Mike Allred rocks.

X-Statix had a photo-op in New York City - I think it was the premier of the X-Statix movie or something. They got attacked by something or other. And spidey showed up to help. IIRC, Dead Girl commented that he looked "runty" in person.
