There seem to be wildly different opinons of this movie. I'm curious to see how this breaks down in terms of numbers....

It's in the "best movie I've seen in 2006" category for me, though there hasn't been much competition for that.

If you hadn't read the graphic novel, it is thee best translation of moore's work.
If you've read the novel, you'll hate the comformist ending and the need to condense the storyline into a 2 hour block
if you can get over the above, it still rocks :)

I liked it quite a bit. Some very.... interesting references. I'm sure I'd have gotten more if I was British(I know I missed a few things), but it's a movie that rewards close viewing. Oh, and the performances.... wow. Not just the main characters, but the expressions on even the minor ones was great.
As if it's close to the book.... I don't know. But it was a rewarding movie without knowing about the book.
Oh, and we hit the trailor jackpot with this one, which helped my mood anyway. (Silent Hill, Pirates of the Caribbean, Superman)

I really enjoyed the film. Had I not read the comics prior to seeing the movie I think I would have been blown away. However the whole time there were so many elements that I wish they would have included. I also didn't really enjoy how far off base it went by going down the whole America is a fascist country route.

i loved it and saw it 2 times on a 5 story high, 7 story wide imax screen. it really is the only way to see a movie anymore. def worth the ten bucks to see it on the imax! the only thing is even the big screen didnt do anything for portmans figure.

Nothing against the actors or director, but I just don't feel the desire to see the film. The book was amazing, and I'm pretty happy with that. Maybe I'll give it a rent, but there is no burning desire to see it right now.

I just saw this movie and it completely wowed me. I don't remember hearing much about how great it was when it was released at the theatre. The powerful imagery the interesting setup and character. Also great seeing natalie portmans transformation through the film. Also some wicked twists.

I waited until a friend rented this to watch it. I enjoyed it very much as a movie. The book is far better, but as a movie, it kept me interested.

I thought that it was brilliant. I didn't have much hopes from stuff I read about it.
But watching it, I couldn't see why people hated it.

I thought they did a great job with it, and was amazed at how much the message of it resonated, even with some of the most politically obtuse people I know.

Good Movie, too political for me, could have used some more action in the middle. V was a great character, one of the coolest superheroes(is V a superhero?) ive seen in a long time. I bet if they make a sequel it will be called V for Vengence.

Just got it from blockbuster.com yesterday and saw it earlier today. Very good movie that just builds and builds toward a nice detailed ending. Natalie came through in this. Not really up on any of her movies since her debut in Professional but this was a good first introduction for me to check her out in. She lived up to the hype that many have placed on her but Hugo Weaving was superb too. I loved Natalie after she was released from V's self imposed prison though. "I can't FEEL anything anymore!" Beautiful.

It was a very good movie based on a comic book I felt. I thought it delivered on the slow build up of V's plan. Everyone came thru it very well and I gotta say that the Wachoski brothers did a good movie.

I read the graphic novel so I hated it with a passion. Changed a lot of things that should never have been. Changed a lot of the characters and what happened to them to fit in 2 hours. Easily the biggest let down in years.

If they'd just called it something else, I might have enjoyed it more. But it's one of those films that just seemed to miss the point of the book, taking what is essentially a political and social story and turning it into an action movie with some political rhetoric. And while the Wachowskis have a flair for action, style, and design, they have no comprehension of subtlety at all; there's lots of big, important talk, and explanations of things that didn't need to be explained at all.
Some people have made the point that if they'd done more of a straight adaptation, the film would have been much slower and less streamlined. But that's the whole point of the book: It's not about V being the good guy and blowing stuff up and fighting a Hitler stand-in, but the ambiguity of his motivation, the infinite grey shades of politics and government, and the effect of political change on society.
There were things I liked: Hugo Weaving was very entertaining behind the mask. And the sequence with Valerie's letter was very moving - unsurprising, given it was one of the few things adapted almost verbatim from the book.

I voted OK.
I read the book along time ago, so my recollection of it may be hazy, but it seems to me that the movie totally misses the point. Or rather, it totally ignores half the point, in order to pile on some heavy-handed "America Teh EVAL!" jabs.
I'm not sure how much was him actually in the suit (another actor had been hired first), but Weaving's vocal performance was superb. Though it's a shame the movie didn't give him the chance for a big shakesperean speech about the virtues of freedom, given that's what the movie is suppossedly about.
Natalie Portman gives an excellent performance (though I know some take issue with her accent), which enriches the film, but also makes me all the more angry at her for phoning it in during the Star Wars prequels.
Bear in mind that despite what the ads suggest, it's not really an action movie in the vain of the Matrix, aside from a "knife-time" scene near the end. There's basically no action in the middle.

Without a doubt it's one of the best action movies i've seen. The special edition DVD is great as well. BTW has anyone else seen the site thefutureisours.com ? Funny they have the V suit to giveaway. I wonder how much that thing would be worth? Atleast several thousand dollars I would figure.

Great movie version of a even better comic book. Much like Spiderman was great, but not as good as the original comic.

I found it enjoyable.
Not the best movie or all time but not lame, either.
I haven't read the comic so I can't comment how close it got.
Definitely a great comic-based movie.

Decent enough brainless action drivel with a tacked on political message, completely misses and demeans the point of the work that it's based on.
Some laughable action scenes and dialogue, typical of the Wachowskis.
Overall, fairly lousy.

It seemed to me that there was actually very little action in that flick overall.

It's good if you don't compare it to the book. If nothing else, the Valerie sequence is just beautiful.
Had trouble with the new ending and the removal of the anarchy label, and any undertones about V just being a giant douchebag who wanted revenge and theatrics.
It was a simplified story that was made more palpatable for an america audience, enjoyable to watch, but not as good as the source.

Terrible Matrix-esque action sequence + Sugary ending which lets people off the hook = lousy Moore adaptation. For the layperson it may be OK, but for fans of the graphic novel? Forget it.
