Newsarama just posted the art for its Free Comic Book Day offering, the Runaways meet the X-Men!

http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=63808

The Runaways will look like this:

While the X-Men will look like this:

Looks very cool. Skottie Young's art really works for the Runaways.

Whoa... Kitty's totally stuffing! Quick, I've gotta blow my nose, somebody get me her bra! No wonder Lockheed looks so intent!

Seriously, looks awesome. Was hoping it'd be a more diverse cast, not just the Astonishing gang, but with art like that, I can't complain. Except for the fact that it's only 11 pages. But I'm betting those 11 will tell a more complete story than some 14-issue crossovers, so it's all good.

He's discussing continuity and the adaptation of science, both real and fictional, to the books springing out of HoM.

I think it's the only appropriate response, really.

You can't tell because there's no captions, but what Hank's saying on that cover is, quote, "Ah-duuuuuuuuuhhh...?"

To which Chase's response is, "Dude, the Blue Panther! Wait, no, I mean... uh, Lion-O? Thundercats, hoooooooo!!! Heh heh... hey guys, I said 'ho.' Heh."

If it takes place after, that means she wont return to the team in this new arc. :(

I want the version with the Runaways cover...they look better in this style than the X-Men...

according to Newsarama, Skottie Young is a big Generation X fan & would love to try to bring the title back.

Oh Skottie, I wish you mucho luck, but Marvel's more likely to prematurely break your contract then put out a new Gen X book...

Personally, as much as I love the Runaways kids, I like the X-Men cover better (aside from overbulked Wolverine and Colossus).

Skottie Young's style doesn't suit the X-Men too well. Piter looks as big as the Thing, he draws Wolverine like Samos does and I don't like Beast's goofy face. Though he does make his cat look look decent. The Runaway fit his style well.

That Colossus scares me but otherwise I love the style.

It's so weird seeing someone else other than Adrian Alphona draw the Runaways though, Takeshi Miyazawa included.

Lots of positive comments on Skottie Young's art for the young kids on the Runaways team. He got slammed for his style of drawing the young kids on the New Warriors team????? What gives? And his art is great here as usual.

jawbreaker
03-22-2006, 08:04 PM
^ probably cuz the Runaways are still new characters but the Warriors are considered more classic comic characters. A lot of posters dont like the way he drew the X-Men here either...

Exactly. The Brood were scared of Lockheed. He considered them lunch. If it came down to a fight my money's on the dragon.

Which is why it would be far more amusing to see them together in the background.

Because it's Whedon's team, and that means they're more recognizable. :)

Why is it always that friggin' team?

Because they're the coolest, and more people would likely jump on to AXM then #549 or Uncanny X-men or #190 off X-men, plus the fact that the other is generally conisdered the flagship X-book, and Joss Whedon wrote Buffy and Angel.

....

Is he writing this? No, BKV is.

I hope that BKV recognises (Like Milligan and Claremont) that there are more then that team and feature more then just them.

After all, technically, Rogue can touch Victor.

Also, it'll be cooler if mroe then them featured. Get get them everywhere.

If a new reader comes in the shop, for the first time after say watching the movie (Which they probably would have) a team of:

Collosus, Wolverine, Emma Frost, Shadowcat, Cyclops and Beast and Professor X (in previous trades)

would be more recognisable than the other teams I think.

Where's Jean and Storm? ;)

But I don't mean just that team. I don;t mind if they are in it (except Wolverine), but I'd like a few more then that.

Look at recent Gen M #5. Jenkins chose a group of X-men that was quite random to feature in the alst issue, not just that team.

Bendis is guilty of doing what I don;y like. In the Sentry story, they get that team and only that team. Yet wouldn't you prefer, Rachel and Iceman at your side instead of Beast and Kitty?

Ugh. *smacks forhead* The art's terrible.

Maybe if it was animated, I could accept it.

And personally, I think Whedon could have chosen a better team, but I don't really have an idea for any good replacements.

I don't know, his team is pretty strong and diverse, at least character wise. Besides, you know he was going for the buffy feel with having an interesting cross-section of various personalities, many who grate on each other.

Cyclops - The Leader
Emma Frost - The Bitch
Beast - The Brains
Shadowcat - Cute and Spunky
Colossus - Strong and Sensative
Wolverine - The Non-Conformast

I think that's what irritates me about it. Look, no offense to Whedon, he's a good writer, but after 7 seasons of Buffy, I'm not eager to read anything resembling it.

Cor Blimey! That's what the problem is! I'm sensing Buffy-ness in the script. But maybe that's just a perspective issue. Well, I suppose its just a matter of taste.

As far as powers and dynamic go, yeah, it's a pretty well rounded team. And at least they're fixing Emma.
