View Full Version : If Hal Jordan could talk to Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor

Wouldn't it be interesting if Hal Jordan got a chance to talk to Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor (even Kal-L) before the end of INFINITE CRISIS (not likely, but still...)? They're all trying to "improve" the world by wiping out that which they disapprove of and creating a new, "perfect" universe. Well, Hal's been there and done that...as Parallax back during ZERO HOUR. Having watched the events of the DCU unfold since entering the "paradise dimension" at the end of COIE, Superboy-Prime, Alex, and Kal-L must have seen what happened with Hal after EMERALD TWILIGHT. Granted, Hal was possessed by the Parallax entity, but nevertheless, they probably could have and should have learned something by watching what happened to Hal before, during, and after ZERO HOUR.

Why talk at all when Hal can just do what he does best and punch em'? Sure it may not work to well for Superboy Prime, but it would be fun none the less.
Seriously, I think a nice, deep philosophical discussion on the nature of heroism and how you can't FORCE the world to be a better place would be nice, especially considering the wisdom Hal has likely gained on the matter. As for why Superboy didn't catch on and say 'Oh, nertz, Alex! We're doing the exact thing Hal tried to do when he became Parallax!' well....uhh.....

Hal: "If you could fix the universe by punching it, I would have done it a long time ago..."
Superboy-Prime: "But I really can change things... There's so much wrong with..."
A green boxing glove punches Superboy-Prime from behind!
Alex Luthor: "Hey, Jordan! Nobody can knock around my Superboy unless it's me..."
An arrow shoots Alex Luthor through the chest. Enter Green Arrow.
Ollie: "Works every time. Hey, Hal, you think they were..."
Hal: "We had a saying in the air force: Don't ask. Don't tell."
Ollie: "And thus ends a love story that almost ended the universe. If only those two bozos weren't stuck in the past... and, not that there's anything wrong with it, but they really needed to get a room. Sheesh."
Hal: "Amen, brother. Howabout we swing by Old Navy and then cap off the evening at the health spa...?"
Ollie: "Sounds like a plan... You wouldn't believe how badly archery ruins my manicure..."
Hal: "God. I miss the old days. When manicures were cheap."
Ollie: "I never thought I'd say this... But me too, Hal. Me too."
Hal: "By the way, is your son..."
Ollie: "Don't ask, don't tell, Hal. Besides, I have dibs on you..."

Honestly, I think you and Buried are on to something. Geoff has said that Hal Jordan wouldn't show up until issue #7 of Infinite Crisis. I have a distinct feeling that this will indeed occur, considering how well Geoff is of a continuity buff.
I could see Superboy-Prime, the ever impressionable teenager, admitting wrongs to Hal Jordan's lecture. But, as far as Kal-L and Alexander goes, they would argue to the tooth. One going by his Golden Age black-and-white views and the other because of pride and ego (all Luthors have this).
*anxiously awaits issue #6*

I think it would be better to have Green Arrow talk to them. He seems to be the unnofficial "voice" of the DCU.

I don't think Kal-L needs the lecture. I think he sincerely didn't thinkanyone was going to die or be worse off.
And I think he's had the "reality check" he needed.
As far as I'm concerned, the most important story in the DCU seemed to end in #5.

I see no difference in super heros intervening in people's lives and Alex or Hal trying to create a perfect universe. In both scenarios the "hero" is taking on the responsibility of deciding right and wrong.

I think Hal and Superboy Prime should have a PUNCH-OFF! First guy to admit fault (or say "Uncle!") loses and has to watch the other guy reshape reality!

Hal's punch is manly and mighty, but does it retcon?

Alas, Hal's punches are retcon free, but the reasoning behind them are as nonsensical as the retcons Superboy caused.
And Superboy's punches don't come in Giant Green Boxing Glove form. Beat that, Boy of Steel....

This Green Lantern angle is an interesting possiblity. But one of my disappointments with Infinite Crisis is that there such a major focus on Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman. Nearly every other DC hero is a bit player in this major storyline, including major characters like Hal Jordan.
