The cover looks hot and the action is definitely ratcheted up. Definitely getting this comic.

love the sound effects. hey, you ever notice how lethal force is perfectly reasonable as long as the individual being killed isn't humanoid? i mean i know that the Brood are murderous insectoids but, then again, so are a lot of marvel villains. for some reason i imagine that Ms Marvel would have left Sabretooth battered but unconscious instead of moving in to make the SPLOOOSH sound effect. anyways, can't wait until the next issue. Go Carol!
Why would the Brood try to control the Acanti when they no longer have the Soulsinger? Shouldn't the Brood be using Starsharks?

Carol is a warrior trained to kill. It's instinct to her. Besides, you should reread Uncanny X-Men #164-167, when Carol as Binary, kills thousands of Brood.
The Brood see their victims as two things:
hosts
food
Carol has every right to kill the Brood because they are irredeemably evil. If one Brood lives, the Earth is doomed.

Preview looks pretty good. There's even some action! Didn't buy #1, might buy #2.

Actually, yes, the Brood believe in Manifest Destiny. They conquer their enemies & absorb them into the Brood. Thus far, the X-Men & Binary are the only ones to defeat the Brood. Although the Brood's homeworld was destroyed by Binary when she released the Acanti soul, the Brood still live on other alien worlds.
The Brood attempted to implant Binary with a queen egg in Uncanny X-Men #166, but they failed (They were not aware Binary was Carol Danvers).

Carol seems to have stuff implanted in her a lot. i'd expect her to wear a full body suit after all of that.

it's basically used to fill us in on where Carol Danvers is in her life and her new plans to become marvel's #1 hero. if you're a fan of the character, i'd recommend it. if you're lukewarm about her, skip right ahead to issue 2. there's just not much action in that first one. she basically kicks Stiltman's tuckus in 2 panels and spends the rest of the book in self-reflection.

Unfortunately pretty weak. Inconsistent art. Dominated by girl-talk and ridiculous plot -- whipping out a cell phone at mach 3 and talking to Captain America, who also whips out a cell phone while fighting Hydra goons. It was a big disappointment.

pent-up anger from her youth; where she worked as a valet.

Hmmm... Carol has implants? I just assumed that was Frank Cho's artistisic expression of her.

No, Carol does not have implants. He was referring to the Brood attempted egg implant when she was Binary in Uncanny X-Men #166 & her Kree implanted genes she received from the Psyche Magnatron which transformed her into the original Ms. Marvel.

Really looking forward to Issue 2, we get to see lotza Brood die this month between Carol and Banner :) Always makes for a good month.
As far as issue 1 being weak, I'd vote the other way. Young artist, yeah, but better than not with room to improve. Overall I liked it a lot.

While talking on a cell phone going mach 3 isn't the most logical thing in the world, it was pretty funny and made for a great character moment. Besides if you can suspend your belief for aliens, superpowers, etc. Why not a cell phone that works going Mach 3. She is pretty good friends with Tony Stark.
I thought the first issue was a great starting point. It planned out where the character was going and what to expect in future issues: Superhero action, humorous situations, and real world character sensibilies(by this I mean her agent, talking frankly with Jessica about superhero stuff like it's nothing, and calling Cap on the cell phone for help). Solid issue.
I really can't wait for issue 2 though, that preview looks great.

Me too. He's alright, just not the greatest. I would have put a big name on the book if you wanted to draw in some of their fans as well. Then...ta da, all new fans(maybe)

Ms Marvel = Ripley :D

It's a good opener, especially if you're not that aware of the character. It's not too heavy on continunity and great, solid charecterisation. Set up for where the series seems to be going is perfect.
Was kinda dodgy about picking up #2, just because of the Brood & the tendancey those type of storylines can have to rob me of braincells, but I like the look of the preview - it looks fun. I think I'm one of the few that actually really likes the art, faces aren't consistant but that's part of why I like it, it's not generic cookie cutter and he's great on 'full' looking panels (background etc). Definatly is room to improve, but I like the direction it's in.

His art seems to be getting better as the series goes on. At least that's what i thought from the previews of the second issue.

Issue 1 and this preview made me feel like I was reading a DC comic to be honest. You know Carol actually would be better, is actually better suited to be in the DC universe along side the likes of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Powergirl, etc then in the actual Marvel universe.
Does anyone else get that feeling when they see her character? Or feel that way?
Other then that, I don't really have that much of an opinion on her. She just isn't that interesting to me. Maybe if she wasn't this attempt at a perfect looking, big breasted blond. You know actually had some physical flaw, or a somewhat normal look. Or didn't come off as some DC female hero rip off.
Just glad that Spider-woman has the whole spider power thing going for her as well as the whole triple agent mess, cause she's actually dangerously close to coming off like this as well.

Was #1 as good as people are saying?I'm debating picking this up or not.

Ms. Marvel #1 is the introduction issue. I would have structured the story a little differently by intergrating the Brood into the story a little better, but it's a good starting point. Carol fights the Brood in Ms. Marvel #2-3.

you should feel that way because Carol feels that way. when i think of DC, i think of superheroes who are larger-than-life. Carol wants to be that big of a hero; the best. and she's definately their version of Power Girl or Wonderwoman.

I get the feeling that Carol is a marvel character that wants to be a DC character.
She's an alchololic second stringer with aspirations of being an icon. It's sort of like Sentry in a way... DC character on the cover, marvel character beneath the surface (though I'm obviously generalizing both companies a great deal).

Thats the reason I love Carol so much. She isn't perfect, far from it. She has the ability and the perseverance to do all those iconic things, she just hasn't yet. I think this series is a great step in the right direction!
