My friend recently got an Ipod, and I asked if I could listen to it. It was full of bands that I'd never heard of, but they were waaay better then the shit I hear on the radio nowadays. He told me most of them were underground musicians. So, does anyone know some websites where I can listen to unknown artists?

Elbows (http://elbo.ws/) is an aggregator that compiles MP3s from the most well known blogs to the smallest. Really useful if you want to find out about new bands. Not all of the blogs are 100% legal, though (if you have a problem with that). Another good site that is entirely legal is Epitonic (http://epitonic.com/). And there's always internet radio (http://www.woxy.com/).
Hope that helps.

Myspace. Bands myspace pages are good because you can hear like 4 songs from a band on the page and get some general information about them. To find the page go to google type in a bands name + the word myspace. If you are interested in punk rock heres some names of bands i think are cool and you can check out thier myspace pages.
The Stiches,The Briefs,Neon Maniacs, Leftover crack,.D.I.,The Dickies, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Buzzcocks, The Strange Ones, narcoleptic Youth, order Of The Fly,TSOL, Toxic Narcotic and many more. You can check on the friends links for similiar artists that are friends of the band.I'm sure other posters can give you examples of good bands from differant genres of music.
