I just don't care about Marvel right now, or in fact, since Bendis was through his fourth Daredevil arc. Maybe it has to do with the sales pitch, because, let's face it, whenever Didio or Quesada speak out, they're trying to make a sale.
Joe Quesada just hasn't been able to do that with me, and has not backed it up with the talent either.
Daniel Way on Wolverine: Origins? I couldn't believe it because A: who is this guy? and B: so what?
Granted, Marvel may not have the deep pockets DC does, but the smart thing DC is doing is spending their money wisely, and putting the right people on the right books. You want someone to reintroduce Batman as a character; James Robinson couldn't be better.
Marvel has not made me care about Civil War. I don't care who is on who's side, and Mark Millar has been dwindling since his end on Authority.
Ed Brubaker is the only name that draws me still, though I probably won't pick up his X-Men because they have never peaked my interest. It's never mattered who's writing or drawing them. I've tried them after every creative
hand off since the mid-eighties, and I just can't get a feel for them.
Spiderman: Gang War needs a trade. That story was marvelous. That's when I enjoyed Marvel, and that Spiderman vs. Wolvering one shot, the one when Ned Leeds died, is one of the most influential comics ever. Also, when Steve Rogers relinquished the Captain America role, that was storytelling.
Civil War just feels rushed and forced on the consumers.
Infinite Crisis was planned years ago, and it's playing out like that, and even now that it has come to fruition, it feels like a living experiment. Civil War, and Annihalation, and Planet Hulk feel like the aftermath of hydrochloric acid doused on a corpse's face. Don't move, we'll be sure to slop it on you.
Stracynski and Bendis need to jump ship already, and the talent Marvel is using right now needs to step up. Marvel recently signed J. Scott Campbell; they can have him. DC thanks him for his characters, now move along.
Peter David signed out of spite for Fallen Angel. Jeph Loeb signed because he was just bored, and it started showing in his latter Superman/Batman and Supergirl run. I'm hoping this new territory will reinvigorate his brain, and I believe it will, but Joe Madura is going to be the one holding The Ultimates volume 3 back.
Okay, I've bitched enough. Now it's your turn.
Hit me.
