Concept:
The Agents of Light and Dark is a fan-fictional story of a super-team consisting of heroes from different universes. The chosen will be from various times and worlds to combat an ‘Omni-Malevolent’ threat. The actual team members will be from other known franchises that would other wise never cross paths. This is found on my view of all stories as a part of a grand Omni-verse; a concept even larger in scope than DC’s multiverse. Basically (or not so basically), there is a Marvel Universe, a DC Universe, a Star Wars Universe, a Nintendo Universe, a Voltron Universe, Transformers, Mortal Kombat, and so on. Although each universe may have sub-universes that may affect events in their particular existence (namely MK’s realms and DC’s mulitverses), they remain unknowing of the existence of the other parts of the grand Omni-Verse. Occasional rips do occur that results in fantastical yet contained events that the Omni-Verse itself repairs for the sake of a serene continuum (Batman vs. Predator, Marvel vs. DC, Capcom vs. SNK).
Background:
All of the universes that make up the Omni-Verse must abide by the Laws of Balance; in that there must be good and evil in some shape or form in each and every one of the universes. The legends of a Utopia or an endless Hell are merely wishful thinking on the parts of the ‘Good Guys’ or the ‘Bad Guys’. The Laws of Balance must be upheld in a blind, strict manner. Neither side must dominate for long periods of time in any universe. The result is cosmically viral; the weight of good or evil can spread across the Omni-Verse, granting the related force a boost of sorts, resulting in a shift of power in another universe and so on. In this fashion, you can relate the death of Superman with the rise of the Empire for instance. Because the Laws of Balance are blind to violators, even the forces of good must be kept in check. Hence, there can never be a true victory for either side in any universe. As Superman wisely puts it, “The never ending battle.” Another view of this is to imagine the Omni-Verse as a chain, with each universe a link in the chain. When good or evil tugs at a link enough, it will cause the next link to collapse along with it. Or the largest possible scale, one can begin to imagine the importance of the Laws of Balance. Existence itself depends on keeping this balance. Everything from an Infinite Crisis to Bowser kidnapping Toadstool contributes to the Laws of Balance.
Story:
All good and evil in the Omni-Verse originates from two polar opposite sources called the Force of Light and Force of Darkness. The simplistic titles suggest both their easily recognizable auras and their inconceivably huge scope. Both the Forces are indeed living entities that have no desire to consume the Omni-Verse for itself. But although the Forces are responsible for the sources of good and evil, and their balance; they aren’t in control of those who serve from those very sources.
When an unbalance is felt, either Force can bring together Omni-Versal representatives called Agents of Light and Agents of Dark. Their job is to fix any and all unbalances that occur on the part of Omni-Malevolence; a spirit bent on utter chaos and unbalance, possessing who and what it feels can help in the unraveling of all things. When the Forces counter-act this threat, they aren’t able to possess the chosen from across the Omni-Verse; only recruit, brief, deploy, and return (with memories wiped). Certain dangers call for certain Agents, sometimes there is no logic to the chosen; only who is available. In a pool of countless heroes and villains it is still a difficult task choosing who will be a temporary Agent of Light or Dark. Absence of these icons must be accounted for, and great events that depend on their involvement must be taking into consideration by the Forces (Hence, ‘every hero’ or ‘every villain’ can’t be recruited as Agents at once, an immediate unbalance would occur).
Execution:
I want this to be an open fanfic where anybody who gets the premise and takes it seriously can freely add an episode to contribute to the story. Making a group of heroes or villains (never a mixture) of their choosing from a huge range of comic, cartoon, video-game, novel, film, and TV sources to tell their story. Special attention must be placed on the team’s members and interaction amongst themselves (Sub-Zero with Mr. Freeze can make for an obvious team up, or how about FBI Agent Fox Mulder and JLU’s the Question). Teams can be as big as your ability to handle multiple characters. Stories could range from big action, mysteries, and others. It’s whatever story you want to tell with whatever characters from whatever universe. I’ve been thinking about this concept for the last couple of days of a big ever-going story that anybody could join (but not in a typical Forum RPG sense).
