Very good questions. What WAS he talking about?

Galactus doesn't have the UN and even if he did, it wouldn't do him any good--given that he'd have to die if used it.
If memory serves me right, the whole Abraxas mess implies that Galactus can summon the Ultimate Nullifier to his hand as he wills.
Also remember the UN being an aspect of Galactus himself, and Galactus being one of the few beings capable of using it without destroying himself... But it's been a while.
Edit: For a no prize, the Ultimate Nullifier is an aspect of ALL members of Cosmic Balance. As the last surviving and free member, Galactus considers himself the only member of Cosmic Balance, hence the confusion. But Tenenbrous and Aegis are ALSO capable of using and withstanding the effects of the Ultimate Nullifier. This also explains how Galactus survived the explosion that killed Tyrant. Galactus only 'fears' the Ultimate Nullifier, not for his own life, but because when used by an untrained mind it would destroy galaxies and perhaps the whole universe (which thus explains why Galactus retreated from Earth in the first place).

In Fantastic Four Annual #24, Galactus unleashes the power of the UN againt Korvac without harming himself. Korvac avoids it by transferring his essence into Jaboa, giving the impression that he commits suicide.
I was under the impression that Galactus is one of the few skilled enough to use the UN without catastrophic results.

Ah I thought that Galactus still had possession of the nullifier, as well as being one the few, if not the only, beings/being who can use it with accurate and devastating effect.

Hi Andy:
You've stated a couple of times that one of the points of Annihilation was to "rebuild" Galactus and that NOBODY was as powerful as him. I can't think of a better way of backing that up then by having Galactus mop the floor with both Tenebrous and Aegis!
Best regards,
Richard
A follow up thought, the first thing Tenebrous and Aegis did after being freed was to go after Galactus. With Galactus, presumably, free again at the end of Annihilation, it would seem consistent for them to try and take him out. Which, in turn, would let him mop the floor with them!
Bests,
Richard

Excluding JLA/Avengers, I think that the last time we see the nullifier is in the Abraxas story. Richards uses it to wipe out Abraxas's existance as well as the harm he causes, but afterwards, I don't recall any specific mention of where the nullifier ends up.
If JLA/Avengers is in continuity, then that is its last appearance.

Andy, how are you? This question isn't quite about Annihilation but the results of the sales of Annihilation. The series seems to be a success, so will it serve as a "herald" to a return of cosmic Marvel stories like in the 70's and then again in the 90's with Warlock, Capt Marvel, Nova, Quasar, and the rest? Thanks again for your time, and I just cant say this enough, the series rocks!
P.S.Andy don't get discouraged over the negative reaction to Thanos' death. I'm as big a fan as any, I have the cover of Infinity Gauntlet 4 tattooed on my back and I understood it was part of the story.

Andy-
IIRC, you've alluded to some possible changes to things in Annihilation that have come up as the event has progressed. My question is, are the Spaceknights still going to show up at some point, in some capacity, or are they off the table now?
(You've mentioned before- usually in reference to Warlock questions- that if
someone hasn't shown up yet, they probably won't.)
Thanks!

Hey Andy?
I know this ain't for 'Omega Flight', but could you PLEASE tell the colorist that bathroom colored costumes (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/mekairinek/ofbrb.jpg) are not okay?
Seriously, I was physically nauseous just looking at Bill's outfit. It's not so much the design -I'm neutral in THAT regard- but the color scheme makes him look like he just stepped out of a septic tank. A really dirty one at that.
Just... whyyyyyyy those colors? =(

Now that his ongoing troubles in SHE-HULK have been resolved, any chance of Starfox turning up? I realize that this late in the series we're not likely to see anyone else turn up, but I'd love to see Andrea DiVito's portrayal of Starfox!
In ANNIHILATION #4, is that Nebula (alongside Cerise) looking down at Nova and his team when Gamora drops them off?
And an off-topic question about Omega Flight, based on the story in 'Choosing Sides'...how worried should USAgent be about chasing down Purple Man, given Killgrave's comments about the Agent being lucky he didn't have time to do more than just kill him? After all, let's not forget about what Purple Man did to Scott Lang in ALIAS, or to Swordsman in T-BOLTS.... Given John Walkers more conservative values and attitudes, Purple Man would undoubtedly take a sadistic glee in messing with him like that.
Anyway Andy, keep up the great work!

Hey Andy,
Like Elegance Liberty I have a question about Omega Flight. You mentioned on Marvel.com that Stormbreaker ended with Bill in Canada. The only problem is that's not what happened. Bill was joined with Simon Walters in NYC and didn't seem very Canadian considering he was wearing what looked like a torn U.S. Army uniform. So what's up?

Annihilation forced me to buy comics again. Thanks.
Now for the questions,
1. Have you considered making it into an animated film?
2. Does your department talk with the Civil War guys? If not you should, they have no idea how to make a story interesting or capture the attention of a reader.

Andy, as much as I enjoyed the destruction in issue #4, I have a problem with Drax. Why wasn't he like this last issue, when everyone needed him to be?
He single handedly held off the Annihilation Wave so that the others could escape. That was pretty cool. In issue 4 he had one target and didn't take on as many enemies all at once as he did in issue 3. I think he was more impressive in issue 3, actually. If he had taken down one or even two ships in issue 3 it still wouldn't have mattered, the planet still would have been destroyed by the other 7000 ships or so...

Andy, I'm absolutely loving ANNIHILATION, which is surprising. I've never been a fan of Nova, and I've especially never been a fan of Drax, so for me to be cheering him on and loving every moment he spends on panel is just amazing. That being said, I'm missing the girl power. Tell me there are plans for Gamora, Moondragon, and Phyla to kick some ass. I understand that Nova is the lead followed closely by Drax, but my girls need to do some hardcore ass-kicking. Will it happen? Will Moonie get her ear back or maybe a new one? It's hard to disguise earlessness without hair, even partial earlessness. Will she get a wig? Are you going to say "wait and see?"
Prazagora gets to kick some butt in issue five and one of the other ladies gets to kick some tail in issue six. I know how you feel. I like the ladies as well--especially the kind that kick butt.

If you're going back to his original colors why isn't there any red? Also if you were trying to establish him as something other than a "Thor knock-off" why not just use the costume he had at the end of Stormbreaker? Which IMO was much more of a change from his classic outfit compared to the Kolin’s, which seems to just be a re-colored version of his "Beta Ray Thor" costume with the addition of a useless spike on his back.

Andy, I know I've been really nice to you so far, but you just so struck a nerve with me. I'm gonna try to be as polite as possible though.
Firstly, Bill is NOT a 'Thor knock-off'. (I don't think that's what your opinion is about Bill, but the whole 'clone/knock-off' thing makes my skin crawl) He may dress the same -on occasion- and have a magical hammer, but fundamentally they are two VERY different characters in personality and in aesthetic looks.
As for his 'original colors', nowhere did I ever see brown anywhere on his original costume (and I have Thor #337 and #338 in front of me too). Just yellow, red and orange. No brown. And speaking as an artist -who is going to be taking a course on color theory for the next three months- brown =/= yellow and red. Those colors together DO NOT work. But maybe that's my aesthetic sense speaking.
The costume at the end of 'Stormbreaker' worked just fine. It gave Bill a sense of the individuality he needs, while still holding onto his 'roots', so to speak. Why get rid of it? Was it because Scott Kollins hated it or something? If so, that's a pretty crappy reason to get rid of a costume that was -strictly IMO- just fine to begin with.
This new costume in 'Omega Flight', if anything, reinforces the perceived idea that Bill is a 'Thor knock off'. Even though Thor himself has a new costume, both his and Bill's are still fundamentally the *same* in design.
And while I would find fault with Oeming changing Simon Walters' background for the sole purpose of using him in 'Omega Flight' (because we all know Oeming is a shameless fanboy of Bill), I was reminded by my sister that I would have done the same thing if I was in his position. So I have no issue with that aspect.
For what it's worth, I'm still going to pick up 'Omega Flight'. I'll still be a fan of Bill and I still like you Andy. You just happened to hit a sore nerve with me, and I sincerely apologize if I came off harsh at any point.

We had lots of designs but there is a balance to strike between what makes the character unique and what is recognizable about him. This seemed like the best version. Seriously, there were probably 15 different designs. This one looks like Beta Ray Bill but doesn't say Thor. For me, it was the color scheme that said Thor. The design itself says alien warrior not to be messed with, to me.
But, to each their own. You might have liked one of the others better, but this is the only one that Mike Oeming, Scott Kolins, and myself could agree on.

1. There are no plans for a Surfer ongoing but there may be some kind of mini in the future. Not really sures.
2. Can't say, unfortunatley. It would give something away.
3. Surfer being reunited with Galactus as his herald. That, or Drax saving the fleet in ANNIHILATION 3.
4. X-MEN, X-FACTOR, ANNIHILATION, UNION JACK, IRON MAN/CAPTAIN AMERICA: CASUALTIES OF WAR, OMEGA FLIGHT, NEW X-MEN, NEW EXCALIBUR, and ASTONISHING X-MEN. Plus a bunch of stuff in development.

Two things: Joe likes ANNIHILATION. He's been very complimentary of it and vocal about it. He's been very supportive of the project and of me and my teams. I've got no arguments. And if I were putting a best of 2006 list together, I don't know that any one moment or thing in ANNIHILATION would stand out as the BEST or the year. Don't get me wrong, we put together a great package and I'm very proud of it and so is Joe. I think ANNIHILATION is definately a cumaliative effect kind of book.
Second thing: REQUIEM, while awesome, is pretty stand alone from what I understand.

Sorry you don't like it though.
Well, to bluntly sum up what I don't like about it is this: It's just Beta Ray Bill's classic costume on steroids with a crappy -literally- color schematic... and it still looks like Thor's. Which, I feel, goes against the idea of using this new costume to 'set him apart from Thor'.
I've shown the costume to several of my non-comic book reading friends and -WITHOUT me influencing them previously, as they're all fairly oblivious to comic goings on- they all pretty much agreed that it was the same ol' original Thor-influenced costume, but souped up and repainted. (One even dubbed it 'Beta Ray Bling', which was mildly funny)
I'm not outright saying you should just splash the classic/signature Bill colors on the new costume (just saying that a color OTHER than brown would be nice. I don't have good news for you. No Starfox
I'm disappointed, but not surprised. But hey, there's always next time. I know you're not editing the cosmic stuff anymore, but if you should hear (or be working on) a project with Starfox turning up, toss DiVito's name in for consideration, please? :D
not sure about Nebula. I don't recall her showing up.
It wouldn't have been especially memorable--it would be a one-panel, non-speaking cameo in the background. Two of Gamora's Graces are standing in the ship looking down as Gamora beams down Nova and his team. The one woman can be identified as Cerise due to her hairstyle, but the other one is harder to make out...but I think its Nebula.
And USAgent should probably be pretty worried. It is the Purple Man after all...
Exactly.
Thanks Andy!

Hey Andy first time poster, I have enjoyed most things Cosmic from Marvel and Annihlation is no exception. I believe the way you set things up with the 4 minis was done well and advanced the charecters forward. Well done.
My questions are
1) when will we see more of the Centourians, introduced in 3 and no sign of them in 4. They sounded like a negative zone version of the Imperial Guard, aliens taken from a number of worlds around the negative zone. Can't wait to learn more.
2) When will we learn more about how Annilus became so powerful, I have been reading marvel for 30 plus years and have never seen him beyond a B level charecter.
3) Silver Surfer-The one change that made no sense to me, why would the SS become the herald of Galactus when there is 40 years of stories showing how much he hated seritude to the Big G. Also what was the purpose of increasing his power to such a level and than have him get smacked down in issue 1 without a fight
4) Tenebros & Aegis- they were brought in by Thanos, how will they react to Annihlus now that Thanos is gone.
I have more, will ask them later
ps, keep up the good work in your new task, great intervies. I am looking forward to Omega Fligth and would love to see a Gladiator MINI.

Just to put in my thoughts on the matter, I recall seeing Surfer make a comment that while Galactus is responsible for the deaths of trillions, he does not do it with a conscious desire to exterminate life...it is simply the collateral effect of having to sustain his hunger (in a very detached, logical point of view). The Annihilation wave, on the other hand, had already crippled the entire skrull empire for no readily apparent reason than for death and destruction. Also keep in mind that surfer discovered that heralds of Galactus were being hunted by these same destructive forces.
Surfer concludes that something villainous is happening in the cosmos, and is causing destruction on a Galactus-level scale, but more so on purpose. When Galactus requests for surfer's presence, that is surfer's clue that something indeed is happening to have Galactus greatly worried. He then finds out about Tenebrous and Aegis, and, coupled with the Annihilation Wave and Galactus' uncharacteristic apprehension, he knew he could only best serve the interests of the cosmos by being repowered and allying himself with his old master.

He single handedly held off the Annihilation Wave so that the others could escape. That was pretty cool. In issue 4 he had one target and didn't take on as many enemies all at once as he did in issue 3. I think he was more impressive in issue 3, actually. If he had taken down one or even two ships in issue 3 it still wouldn't have mattered, the planet still would have been destroyed by the other 7000 ships or so...I meant in the fight before the retreat, though I suppose you are right that he was a bit like he is in #4 towards the end.
Rocket Racoon is not in ANNIHILATION but you will see him eventually...
Space Knights are in issue 5 and 6, if memory serves.
Stop teasing me! Seriously, though, it's nice to think someone has plans for the little guy.

The gold and red are fine together as is). Heck, I know it's probably too late in the game to make any drastic changes, but if you guys at Marvel are keeping the brown, at least darken it a little more. Then it'd be passable.
... And now I'm running in circles. I'll back off on the subject now.

Anyway, I don't have the book in front of me, but Mike Oeming tells me the guy is Canadian, and since he created the character, I'd bet he's right. But I'll look into it.
Simon definetely has an American flag on the shirt of his fatigues and all indications are that his mini ended with him in NY. Of course, where he ends up is no indication of where he is from and the American flag can be ignored sort of like a revamp. Mike seems to revamp his characters every once in a while. Stardust is referred to as "he" or "him" in Stormbreaker, yet is now female.

Hey Andy & the soon to take over Bill. I am a past fan of crossgen ( we just will not go away ) and had a few questions.
1) first wanted to let Bill know I love the work that was done under his watch at CG, the concept & books pulled me in the way no other books have ever done. ( same place Annihlation is taking me )
2) where is the love for Tony Bedard & Paul pelliter. These creators have done amazing work on Exiles ( take a look at the last 2 issues ) as well as a book called Negation ( back in the day ). I think in both of these instances you can see the love for Cosmic/ sci fi stories these 2 possess. I have been reading Comics for more years than I care to remember and very few times have creators shown that they got it, more than these two. My question why have they not been brought into the Marvel Cosmic fold yet ( esp. with the past connection to Bill Roseman ), I know Paul is still on exiles ( but some teams belong together ).
Adding Tony & Paul ( or just Tony ) will only make this part of the MU even stronger,

In the HERALDS one-shots, is there any chance we could see any of Galactus, Tenebrous and Aegis's relatives (ie. the other members of the Cosmic Consonance)? Say, in a flashback or something?

Hey, Negation, sorry to make you wait for my response, I've been very busy lately. My wife and I recently found out that we're going to have a baby so I haven't had much time for the Internet. I'll try to be more diligent going forward.
Anyway...onto your questions:
1. The Centurians will have a prominent roll in HERALDS OF GALACTUS BOOK 2.
2. This has only been hinted at, but he essentially convinced most Negative ZOne worlds that our universe was destroying their own. So he united the NZ armies with political persuasion. Crafty devil, ain't he?
3. SS joined with Galactus to help stop Annihilus--to bring order to all the destruction. With Galactus, there is purpose and he could do everything in his power to prevent needless deaths on Galactus' behalf.
4. Good question. I'm not sure.
Thanks again.

I don't know if I'd want to use him alone or with the rest of the guard, I think alone at first.
I think what interests me is taht he's got such a cool visual and a strange sense of loyalty. He's really intriguing. A guy with the power level of Thor or even greater and isn't afraid to use it. Nope, they don't team up with Stellaris.
Alpha Flight is dead?
And Simon Wlalters is an American?
Dude, why doesn't anyone TELL ME THESE THINGS!?
Kidding aside, yeah, I don't think you could do a book like OF without at the very least mentioning Alpha Flight. And The Collective guy is in prison I think, so the likelihood of him winding up on the team seems pretty small.

There have been several instances of the Quantum Bands incinerating their wielders. In Quasar #1 and the final issue of Cosmos in Collision most notably.
And the Marvel boy clone didn't have fake Quantum Bands, he had the real ones. The real Marvel boy had fake'uns. The clone was the one who was incinerated, and those bands passed into the hands of the FF and Shield, where they were tested and came into Quasar's possession.

LOL jk You'll love it, Andy. But be warned. For every part joy that your new kid brings, there will come an equal part of sheer aggravation. :)
And I saw your post about no Rocket Racoon in the big A. :(
Spaceknights in 5 and 6. AWESOME can't wait.
Anymore ANNIHILATION minis coming after HERALDS, or is that the last of them to have ANNIHILATION on the cover?
There is a racoon in your future. Fear not, Frogman.
The Heralds specials I believe will be the last issues to carry the ANNIHILATION banner. But I may be wrong. Those are the last two that I'm editing, so I just don't know for sure.
Bill Rosemann's got his own thing going from there. Bill and I have talked for hours and hours bouncing ideas off each other and I think you'll like where he and the gang take you next!

Did Annihilation #5 get moved up a week? I thought it was scheduled for the 29th. If it is next week, WHHOOOHHOOO!!!
Doug
I don't think it's next week. I believe it's the 29th.
Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, it's a wild and fun ride! It's really interesting being on my end of things. I'm amazed at Keith and Andrea's abilities to change tones in the series and yet still make everything click.
I think you'll like it.

Alrighty. Well, there you go. Thanks, Enigmanaut.

Hey Andy Schmidt. First off, I want to say congratulations on your family, on your promotion to all things X-related, and on working on one of the best events in comics in the last 10 years or so (Annihilation). I was just wondering if you could answer a question people have been asking A LOT on these boards; who is stronger, Galactus, or Tenebrous and Aegis? I know you said they barely beat Galactus, and they had Thanos helping them at the time, but some people still think they are stronger. Could you clarify that, please? Thanks, keep up the good work.
Peace.

Well, it's rarely a case of who is stronger than who with these cosmic guys. I mean, they can all probably lift Earth with one arm, if you know what I mean.
They probably all have different weaknesses and different strengths, but to my mind, it adds up like this.
Galactus survived the destruction of one universe and the violent birth of another. Tenebrous and Aegis were created during the birth of that second universe, so I figure, one-on-one, Galactus would own ANYONE in the Marvel Universe. That's actually why we created two characters to fight Galactus, and like you said, they had Thanos' help.
Hope that answers your question without getting myself into trouble.

If any of those guys were more powerful than Galactus, they would have existed in the last universe. Nobody's more powerful than Galactus.
But like I said, that's just my opinion. Other folks feel differently. And more powerful doesn't mean he can't be defeated.

Galactus was a human or humanoid mortal in the previous universe. The reason he survived it's destruction is because he was the last one to survive on the ship he was on and that universes eternity merged with him and they became a new entity so he had quite a bit of help surviving that.
Abraxxas was hunting down and killing off every galactus in every reality he went to.
The living tribunal is the judge of all realities, serves the creator and every cosmic acknowledges him as a superior. He exists in every reality and it's not alternate versions of him like with other characters. It's the same living tribunal every time. He very well could have been a part of the universe that galan was from.
Thanos with the infinity gauntlet fought off all of the major cosmics except eternity and the living tribunal at the same time and easily won. Eternity stepped in as the last defense which leads me to believe he is above galactus as well and was easily dealt with. The tribunal determined that even with all that power that laid waste to every cosmic it still wasn't enough to pose any kind of threat to himself.
The infinites dealt with eternity like he was nothing compared to them.
Then in annihilation itself it says aegis and tenebrous are each equal to galactus power.
I think that's enough to show that galactus is far from the most powerful being in marvel.

God, I hate power arguments.
Anywho, question for Andy: Awesome to see Andrea and Scott on the second HERALDS one-shot. Am I right in thinking that Andrea will be drawing the Surfer portion and Scott will be drawing the Firelord portion? The other way around would be cool, too, but I loves me some DiVito space giant action.
Just curious. Thanks.
Andy,
As (I'd hope) you know by now, I'm a Quasar fan. A long while back I bought back issues of FF 520 - 523 because I had heard of the Quasar appearences in them (I'm as big a Q-ball freak as an Iron Man freak, so of course I have a pretty comprehensive collection of guest appearences of each).
Recently (as in just now this very second) I had an opportunity to read those FF books comprising the "Rising Storm" story. I just read FF 522 p. 3 and had this epiphany from my Annihilation reading.
Are Tenebreous and Aegis the rest of Galen's investigating team from his origin which was detailed in this issue by Waid?
Hm.
Well okay, back to my FF reading more or less for those panels with Quasar...

Not to speak for Andy, but this one's been asked and answered (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showpost.php?p=4100262&postcount=2064) already.
Galactus is not the same race as Tenebrous and Aegis. Galactus is from the universe before this one but T&A were born in our universe.

Was there any reason you didn't want Ms. Marvel involved in Annihilation? I really think this character needs to be in bigger situations to show how powerful she really is. The current Ms. Marvel series hasnt had memorable villians and she has been upstaged by her guest stars in the book. Get her off earth so she can stop baby sitting twerps like arana. Or have her go up against more well known bigger baddies and not these c listers that show up.

Hey, thanks everyone who wished my wife and I well with the baby. We're very excited. It is our first so I'm bracing for a whole different kind of life.
And you guys managed to do something I thought I'd never see. My wife actually wanted to read posts on a comic book message board to see what you all had to say.
She was extremely flattered--so I especially thank you for that. She doesn't follow comics or meet many fans so this was really a treat for her to see how great the comics community is. Thank you.
Andy Hey Andy,
Sorry I'm a little late on the congratulations, (haven't visited this thread in a while), but I do wish you and your wife all the best. I'm really happy for both of you, and can tell you that there's no gift in life greater than a child!
We're expecting our second in early June.
So do a lot of reading, (pregnancy material, not comics...well comics are okay too), and prepare yourself for the best! :)

Moving along, I also only recently heard about your shift to the X-camp, and am wondering one thing...
The Phoenix Force is one the bigger continuity jumbles in this corner of the Marvel Universe. The X-Books tend to be all over the place with regards to its power, and their attempts to integrate it into the wider MU have been fairly inept. ...with your move to the X, will you be encouraging the writers and other editors to make an effort on bringing the Phoenix Force into the mainstream Marvel Universe? I really believe in the idea of having a shared universe...and maybe straightening out the whole Phoenix situation, (once and for all), would help bring some clarity to her character and her role in the cosmos...as there are just too many annoying little debates going on everywhere about the Phoenix, and how, (or IF), she relates to Galactus' origin, her relationship with Eternity, and her role in the multiverse in general. It'd also be nice to see Roma integrated more into the main MU, as I've only really seen her associated with the X-verse, (aside from a couple of FF appearances)...even though she has the substantial role of multiverse protector, which is strikingly similar to the Living Tribunal's, (except for the fact that he's way more powerful). Funny how they never share any panel time together.
So I for one am counting on you to help bridge the apparent gap between the X-verse and the rest of the Marvel Universe. I think there's a lot of potential for X-characters to do well in other areas of the MU, and vice-versa.
Just how I feel.
Also, not sure if this has been asked before, (probably has...like way back on page 28 or something), but are there any plans to ever put together some trades for Quasar? Maybe an omnibus?

Couple of reasons:
1. Brian and I were really trying to reintegrate her back into Marvel Universe proper.
2. I refused to let anyone else's books tie-in to ANNIHILATION and I didn't want to be a hypocrite by allowing my own to do so.
3. I think I would have gone mad with more cosmic stuff. Love it as i do--I neede MS. MARVEL and X-FACTOR and UNION JACK to give me some relief.
4. Ultimately though, Carol's role in CIVIL WAR and post CIVIL WAR is the better place for her.
Lastly, if you like "space Carol" then check out my the MS. MARVEL SPECIAL on sale in February (or is it January?). Anyway, it's coming soon!

Okay, about Pheonix. Um, I took over on WARSONG half way through and am just beginging to understand how jumbled its continuity is. One of the problems that I've seen is that every couple of years someone comes along and does "the defining Pheonix story" and tries to run over the others. None have been so great that they have stuck. Let's face it, since Jean died (the first time), the Phoenix hasn't done all that much new.
Probably, it needs a cooling off period for a while. The ending of WARSONG should intrigue you though.
No plans for Quasar trades that I know of. But they did just collect GALACTIC STORM into 2 trades. It's a start.

Whoa. Lots o questions. Ronan is in carge of the military at least. What his final role will be remains to be seen. Surfer was given a significant power boost in issue 3 of his own book, so he had the power level to break the circuit. Blastaar looks that cool because Andrea redesigned him to look that darn cool. He has not been drinking with Wolverine, but he has smoked cigars with Lobo. Yeah, I'd like that Skrull series too. Sucks for both of us.

A little thing came up in the discussion thread. After Ronan smashes his Ultimate Weapon on Ravenous's thick skull, he apparently kills the members of House Fiyero with an energy blast. Are we correct in thinking that that blast came from his Accuser costume, or was it something else? Thanks.

Just curious...
One of the things I've been enjoying about "Annihilation" is how science fiction-y (er...) it is. So much of Marvel Cosmic has tended to be tied to both SF and more fantastical, spiritual elements (soul gems, Eternity, etc). I'm wondering if it was a conscious decision to make "Annihilation" more sci-fi and less faith-based?

Just a quick note for the future writer of Quasar - I was VERY impressed with the Captain America/Iron Man one-shot. Why? Because it seemed to just be drenched in history and details. Far too often, Marvel and DC both have been criticized for sometimes ignoring continuity. If anything, the one shot was all about continuity. Thanks. I hope Quasar is just as good (even if it is Phyla - sigh - who is wearing the Bands).

LOVED issue #5. I know we're getting more Super-Skrull with Javi's series, but I'm really hoping Bill will let us have some more Ronan.
A little thing came up in the discussion thread. After Ronan smashes his Ultimate Weapon on Ravenous's thick skull, he apparently kills the members of House Fiyero with an energy blast. Are we correct in thinking that that blast came from his Accuser costume, or was it something else? Thanks.
Ronan would be a fool to tell you about all of his weapons.

It absolutely was. That is exactly the statement I wanted to make with ANNIHILATION. I think it's time to get away from those elements for a while. It's not that I dislike them, but they've been done to death here at Marvel. I wanted something a little more edgy and a little easier for me to understand. It's been quite an undertaking but I think it's worked out pretty well.
Hope you think so too.

I know this sounds strange and somewhat selfish, but I almost hope this does not happen. I like the fact that he has been taking 3rd tier characters and making him his own, like Union Jack and Deadshot. He has a lot more freedom with those characters. I hope he doesn't stop doing those so that he can work on Spider-Man or other popular characters.

Blastaar, Burstaar, WTF star. When did Blastaar have a kid?
Presumably years before we ever met Blastaar, since Burstaar was already fully grown young man when he first appeared in Peter David's first CAPTAIN MARVEL series (#24, I believe). Burstarr later reappeared in the relaunch, in #13, where he was killed by Genis.
I doubt Blastaar knows about Burstarr's death, nor would he likely care since he was prepared to let him die back in CM #25 anyway. Phyla probably knows about the death though, since she and her family were keeping track of Genis' activities as they prepared to intervene.

I wouldn't mind taking a crack at it, but my hands are full right now with the X line. I couldn't give it the time and attention it needs. At best, I could do a limited on a single character. I couldn't do an ANNIHILATION sized supernatural project.
Like the characters though.

Just because someone becomes a big name, doesn't mean they stop doing smaller characters. Look at Bendis. He does New Avengers, Ultimate Spidey, and Powers and Spider-Woman. Or Geoff Johns, who did Flash for years after becoming a huge name in comics. Ed Brubaker does Uncanny X-Men but he also co-writes Iron Fist. Being big doesn't mean you don't get to use smaller characters, it means more people will read the smaller characters when you do.

ANDY!!!! I'm a newcomer to Annihilation, and must say I love the book so far(I only got #5, but the rest of the series is on the way), and I was wondering, what are the future plans for Phylla? Also, given the chance, would you have included Photon(Monica Rambeau) in this series? She was my favorite Avenger, and it seems nobody has been able to capture her essence the same way Roger Stern has. Anyway, I would have loved to see her in this series. And maybe a new Jack of Hearts.

There are no Skrull planets left, so I think both races have more important things to worry about other than each other. So, not much of a rivalry, but they'll probably never get along.

First time posting and I just wanna say I'm loving Annihilation. In Annihilation #5, we finally got to see Galactus break loose from his shackles and start to seriously tear things apart. A while back, you had mentioned that we were gonna get to see Galactus go to war and it looks like this is it. That said, will Galactus continue to wage war just by ripping stuff apart himself or will he be marshalling forces (i.e. heralds, other cosmic beings, etc.) to enact revenge for his imprisonment on Annihilus and his negative zone forces?

I don't think it's going to be a major factor in RUNAWAYS. I understand why'd you ask the question, but ANNIHILATION and space wars aren't what RUNAWAYS is really about. If the opportunity presents itself, RUNAWAYS may make mention of the events in ANNIHILATION, but probably won't happen for a little while. RUNAWAYS has its own stories to tell, and now that Joss is coming on board, they're sure to entertain in a big way!

I'm not sure I understand the question. There are people who write for film, television, and comics. This has always been the case, but in recent years the line has blurred a bit more. That probably has a lot to do with email and how easy it is to work for both the east and west coast. It used to be much more difficult than it is today. I think the genres have always overlapped, it's just easier for comic editors on the east coast to link up with writers on the west coast.
We search for talented and proven writers. I don't think most of us care where they come from. Good writers are just that--good writers.
Hope that answers your question.

I saw these questions pop up on another board, and they really got me to thinking. They seem like they'd be best answered here:
The meeting with Blastaar seemed really abrubt and I feel like I am missing something.
Has Blastaar has been opposing Annhilus behind the scenes with Space Knights this whole time? When did Blastaar form an alliance with the space knights? What caused him to leave the negative zone to fight Annhilus?

I can't post any of the new stuff because they aren't my books to show stuff from anymore (sad, sad, Andy).
And I wouldn't want to show stuff that I didn't use in my books because that's kind of like saying, "Here's some lackluster stuff from artist X." That doesn't seem fair to the artist and besides--there's a reason that the stuff didn't make the cut.
I got one better for you. Since they are not your books anymore how about having some of the creator's come on and post a partial pic like. Something like a picture of the waist only or a boot. That way you would be giving us a hint and we could discuss amonst ourselves of who we think it could be.
I think it would be fun to see who could come closest to the actual character before the book comes out.
What do the rest of you think?

Ignorange is bliss. If if didn't happen, then I don't really care.
And new book info is usually announced in a much larger forum. Plus Andy has been going WAY out of his way to accomodate us here. If other editors / creators want to join in I'm all for it, but it's not really something that can be expected of them.

Hi Andy,
I am still wondering about the capsule Nova sent to Earth, who did he send it to and what happened to it? I like this scene as a metaphor of Nova's darkest hour and it is complete in that way. But eventhogh it was lost in the chaos in the Civil War, I would like to see a little more detail. I also think seeing a little interaction between the two seperate storylines would be nice.
So I had a couple ideas I thought I'd send you.
I think my best idea is that Nova sent the message to the New Warriors, but they didn't respond because they did not want to get blamed for another disaster. But I am wondering if the New Warriors are just disbanded, and couldn't recieve the message. I hear Nova will return to Earth in his own series and visit with the New Warriors.
I was also thinking villians like the Thunderbolts could have intercepted it to prolong the Civil War.
Or was there a spy from Annihilus on Nova's ship, and they sabotagued the message?

LOL, He looks insanely pissed. Annihilus should be quakin' in his boots. Thanks for the reply.
I saw these questions pop up on another board, and they really got me to thinking. They seem like they'd be best answered here:

It was abrupt. We wanted more for Blastaar, but that was all we had room for.
He's been opposing Annihilus behind the scenes, yep. His planet was taken over by Annihilus. He thought that was mean, so he opposed Annihilus.

I didn't see it as he sent the message to anyone in particular. It was just a record of events thus far. I think he sent it to earth hoping someone would find it and turn all that stuff around.
I understand wanting to see more overlap between Annihilation and Civil War, but they were concieved independently of one another and we only had so much room in ANNIHILATION.
Hope that answers your question.

Must have been a late night :D (Tom Brevoort made the same mistake, yeah I've been bugging both of you.)
EDIT: (Well, it looks like the answer is in the following posts, scrolling down to Nova64 and Deadpool.)
So I guess we can safely say Reed Richards got the message, and this is my thoery why: It seems like Reed Richards probably knows he doesn't have to respond to Nova's message (or thought it would be best to ignore it) because he can predict the future with his psychohistory formula. And he could have started working out the equation for the outcome of the Annihilation Wave when Super-Skrull visited back in Super-Skrull #1.

Thanks, Doug. Hey, for those of you who don't know, Doug runs a great website about Nova and has put together a cool publication about the character featuring thoughts and such on the character from some incredibly influential profesionals. Hey, he even invited me to write a short piece for it.
Anyway, thanks, Doug. And, yeah, you might be right. I actually don't remember the detail of the scene in which Nova sends the message. It makes sense that he would have sent it to Reed. Honestly, it was a thread I wasn't planning on picking up on later, so I left it out there for Tom Brevoort or some other editor or writer to play with if they wished.

Andy, thanks for answering all these questions, thanks for ahnillation. That being said I just read Civil War The Return.......
How does the king of the marvel cosmic characters end up returning in civil war and not ahnillation?
To say I'm dubious about said character's return is a mild understatement, but I thought maybe you know more about it. Is it like one of those 3-D paintings where you find the hidden picture? Right now I'm looking at the return and I'm seeing a complete mess, should I just relax and wait and then I'll see the sailboat?
When you say all will be revealed with Warlock do you mean soon, or at some point in my lifespan, someone will decide to do something with one of my favorite characters again.

Hey Andy, I don't know if the answer to this is in Annihilation #6 or anything but has it been explained yet how Annihilus has such a big army of bug creatures?
Since his queens (eradica, exterpia) have similar facial features and characteristics in appearance are they part of his race? Does this mean that he somehow was able to breed or spawn these creatures before Annihilation?

Andy, With you taking over the X Office, and a limb of the Xmen out picking up Gabriel's leavings within Shi'ar space, will there be any chance for a Marvel Cosmic/ X crossover in the future?
One thing I've disliked about most Xbooks is that with the exception of major events (Civil War, House of M) things that happen in the X books rarely ever have any consequence in the rest of the MU. For example, a few years back I seem to remember Magneto demolishing NYC yet New York heroes like Spidey and the Avengers didn't notice. Is that lack of continuity due to editors not talkng to each other?
Thanks.

Andy,
I have a question will we find out in Annihilation #6, Just how did Annihilus and or Blasstar escape the Negative zone ?
If Annihilus is defeated at Annihilation #6, then what of his land at the N-zone is it all Blasstar's ?
What's next for Cammi now that Drax's mission is completed ?
Where would we find Drax in the Post Annihilation world now that his mission is done ?
I don't understand Roanan, if he's a punisher and enforcer of the Kree wouldn't that make him a bit of a good guy since he protects the law of the land from Intruders ?
Since we're near the end of Annihilation, could we now know what next for the Super Skrull in the Post-Annihilation world and does it have anything to do with the Kree, since he helped save their lives, or the android girl who likes him ?
Andy, since you are in charge of the X-verse books, I would like to know when are we going to see some of the TBPs of the current X-teams from Adjectivess and uncanny, storylines ?

Hello Andy...
I am going to put Wendell out of my mind for just a few minutes and ask you something... actually recommend something :D
Out of all the people over at Marvel your the only one I have regularly conversed with so here goes.
A few pages back I had asked if it would be possible to get all the Captain Marvel books reprinted in Hardback... well I want to give you an update to that suggestion regarding recent events in the Return book.
I don't know where to send this to so if you could forward my suggestion to the appropriate person or person's I would greatly appreciate it!
I would love to have a Hardcover Captain Marvel book which reprints all of his previous run and include the Death of Captain Marvel TPB. And if you still have room in there throw in some other books in which Marvel appears in and signficantly impacts his own series.
But here is what printing should do. The pages of the book up to the point where Marvel is plucked from his timeline and put into 2007 would have the regular white border that all books have. The pages which signify the time period in which he was plucked and the returns to should have borders Golden color like the starburst on his chest. Every page after that should have a black border which represents his reamining adventures and evetual death.
I know this is very specific but hink about it. It would be an amazing collection.
But here is where it gets really good. Once the new adventures of Captain Mar-vell really get going in 2007 and beyond. Everytime you put a series of books into a Hardcover collection all the borders of those pages would be Golden starburst color like the pages from the original collection.
This way it would be a great visual treat for all fans to have where you still have his great rich history and death. But then you have a little visual represntation of his exploits in our time!!
I know maybe I shouldn't be thinking so hard but I have had to keep my mind occupied since ...oh we'll talk about it next week.
Just see what you can do is all I ask.
Thanks Andy!
