Who do think that is? Is there some clever device Whedon is pulling, or is it someone obvious in disguise.

Well, going from the last 2 arcs...i'm going for the latter, but i'm hoping for the former.
I don't think it's Jean; that would be stupid lol. I don't think it's a new character either; that would be boring(unless she/he is written well)
I think it's Selene.

Selene? I didn`t thought of that. How did she get the new powers? The hooded woman seems to be able to predict things(a la Destiny).

That'd be nice. I like what they did with her during X-Force's last run and there's nobody to complain about her lack of being dead 'cause most don't even know who the hell she is. I doubt she has the clout, though.

Personally speaking, I think this is all happening in Emma's mind and that Frost is just going through a serious mental breakdown. With House of M, Xavier's disapearance, and the deaths and depowering of many of her students, Emma was bound to crack at some point. It was brought up in another thread that each member of the new Inner Circle represented Emma's envisionment of her failure.
Shaw - Emma's failure as a villain. When she first debuted, Jean put her in a mental institute and collapsed a building on top of her. Her attempts at stealing Storm's body, recruiting Kitty to her school, and the whole Firestar fiasco couldn't possibly have been very reassuring of her ability as a villainess.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead - Emma's failure as a teacher. On top of the death of her first Hellions at the hands of Trevor Fitzroy, we also have the casualties of her telepathy class from Genosha, Synch's death, the destruction of the academy at the hands of her sister, Esme's betrayal, and now, the depowering and death of Tag, amongst the other depowered students - as seen in New X-Men #24, Emma isn't taking this well. Plus, Emma kept strangely insisting Negasonic was still alive when she carried Ellie's body out of the cave and revealed her secondary mutation for the first time.
Cassandra Nova - Emma's failure as a hero. Not only was she unable to do anything when Cassie nuked Genosha, she was also duped into killing Cassandra's body after Xavier's mind had been switched into it.
Perfection - Emma's failure at being... Emma. Apart from the cloak, the one thing we've seen of Perfection's is the white opera glove Perfection wears, which is reminiscent of Emma's current costume. Perfection is very literally Emma's idea of what she should be, hence the name. Furthermore, who would know that Emma loves Scott more than Emma herself?
Another possibility suggests that Perfection is Jean in disguise. Besides Emma's pathological hatred towards Jean for their first encounter, Jean lived the life that Emma wished she could have had. The first X-Woman, married to Scott, a highly successful headmistress, and loved by everyone around her - why wouldn't Emma be jealous? Anyhow, it explains the last page of Astonishing #13 pretty well..
Various little inconsistencies also point to this being all part of Emma's massive breakdown.
- Ernst's appearance in New X-Men, during the battle royale. Granted, Cassie may be switching in and out of disguises, but hey, bear with me.
- Why wouldn't Cassandra Nova know of Emma's love towards Scott if she were such a powerful telepath?
- How would the Inner Circle manage to sneak into the school and why hasn't anyone noticed them?

I think after the deaths of most of her students and the recent deaths in New X-Men... a part of Emma's psyche is unleashed as pure fury, creating psychic manifestations which are represented by a new version of the Hellfire Club... and they will eventually merge with Perfection and become a being called Onslut which will shag all the X-Men

Exactly. I seriously hope that Whedon wants us to think this is all in Emma's mind(since that is the more logical explanation) so he can suprise us with something truly shocking. This whole "Emma is nuts" theory would be so disappointing if it ended up being true.

Onslut!!!!! Hahahahhaha...
Tarot is probably too obscure for Astonishing readers to appreciate, but she did have the ability to manifest creatures out of thin air - so it wouldn't be a big stretch to have Taro manifesting Shaw, Cassie and NTW in order to get at Emma.
I doubt it will be Tarot under the cloak. But if it is Whedon will get alot of fanboy points from me.
I bet that this new HFC is only real in Emma's mind, but "Emma's gone nuts" would be too easy. She's being played. Who's powerfull enough to make a puppet out of Emma Frost?? :evilsmile

Lady Mastermind has natural telepathy to make her illusions real; she combines these two powers to work together to torment her victims. But I doubt Whedon is using Lady Mastermind since she is a relatively new character.
Perfection is not what she seems.

Lady Mastermind is another one I'd considered. Especially since her father was afilliated with the HFC, and he wore a cloak. One of the 2 Lady Mastermind sisters was obsessed with her father's life as a criminal and wanted to emulate it, but I believe she was depowered. Was the remaining sister similarly obsessed?

Lady Mastermind was Sebastian Shaw's personal assistant, although she has telepathy enhanced illusions, she was not obsessed with her father. Lady Mastermind was not depowered.

Was this in the recent Chasing Hellfire Cleremont story? That wasn't the same Lady Mastermind as in the X-Corps story, correct? That one was definitely obsessed with her father.

I'm talking about Lady Mastermind--who first appears in X-Treme X-Men #5-9--tries to use her illusions to convince Sage to come back to Sebastian Shaw. She fails. Regan Wyngarde, Lady Mastermind, has blonde hair & is beautiful:

Selene is a demon sorceress who is feared & highly regarded from practioners of both white & black magick. All of her sorcery is not known; however, she has never been shown any premotion ability.

Actually, I don't think that Whedon is trying to make it so obvious that it's in Emma's head as a possibility. It's not like the whole Jean returning thing that turned out to be Colossus---Cyclops actually said Jean and that fake art was released, too. This seems like it really is happening, but in the end, Perfection will be revealed to be Emma or something.

I wouldn't mind if it turned out to be predictable and this was a game of mazing through Emma's mind, as long as we get to search Emma's mind and soul through this. I like the thought of them representing figures of Emma's failures in different departments of her life.
And then hopefully through this soul searching, Emma and Scott will be no more.

Great Thinking by Oracle, it could be a manifestation of Emma`s facets. Then again it could be that, mixed with something else entirely. Something could have provoced that to happen. But what?
My favorite ideas are Magik, Older Kitty, Destiny or Scarlet Witch. First because I miss Magik and she would make a badass villainess. An older Kitty would be damn fascinating. Joss has focused quite on Kitty since he began, I wouldn`t put it past him to put even more emphasis on the character. Think a Kitty from Day of Futur Past(or from a time line changed/altered by the X-Men) coming to the past knowing a lot of how things will happen. Destiny I know is supposed to be dead by I think it would a great use for her, it makes her relevant. As for Wanda, I think it would a good organic way to reintroduce her as long as the writer knowns what he`s doing.

Ooh, maybe it's a Phoenix-posessed Cuckoo, as hinted by the end of Endsong, screwing with Emma's head for revenge. That would explain why her presence at the X-mansion went uncontested.
That, or Emma's just out of her gourd.

That would actually be cool. It would explain the true capabilities of her powers and actually give her a great bad-ass introduction into the mainstream X-Verse.
I tell you, some of these New Mutants that are just running around the X-Men are going to have some serious powers as they grow. The X-Men better think twice about who they're going to make X-Men and who they're just going to let sit, because they have some kids there right now who can become true badasses.
And too think they had more!
