Remember how we used to "doodle" in our notebooks in highschool? I still do that. Some recent stuff...

Sorry for the quality of the scans. Notebook paper doesn't come through that smoothly. Finally figured out how to resize stuff. :D

Those are some awesome sketches.
I have a tendecy to doodle a lot myself. Most of my art actually comes from doodles. Cause of that I usually keep plain white paper in my books. You might want to consider keeping at least one plain paper notebook to doodle in. If it sucks it sucks, If it doesn't you can turn it into something more.
I got tired of photoshopping the blue lines out my work. That broke me hard of lined paper.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks Jasper. I like your "Daniel" pic in your recent thread. Some of your stuff has a slight "anime" feel to it. (hope you take that as a compliment. Some people don't like anime) You'd make a great animation artist. (and comicbook artist too!)
You know, the funny thing is, I usually use white printer or typing paper to draw on. But lately, I've been back to my old notebooks. You're right though, they don't scan well. And you can even see pics I drew on the other side because they "bleed" through a bit. I am amazed that scanners can pick up so much detail now. lol.
Thanks again. :)

Arrgh, it ate my reply!
Anyway, what I said was I have one beef:
Go buy a sketch pad! Those pics deserve not to have little blue lines running through them! :D
Wish I was as good a proportion as you... mine is still hit or miss...
Those are great! Give us more. :)

Thanks! Hey, your proportions are just fine. ;)
It's taken me years to get to this point. The only reason I'm pretty decent at drawing women's bodies is because I draw them sooo much Chris. Seriously. It just takes practice. And hey, if you like my proportions, I'm jealous of your painting techniques. I can't paint worth crap. I just don't have the patience.
LOL. I promise I'll post more stuff on "white" paper. No more lines! I like typing and computer paper the best to draw on for some reason. Never cared for sketch paper that much. It has a different texture to it.
Anyway, thanks for compliments.

Thaks Nikita. I do take that as a compliment. I actually want to do covers- like novels, albums or even comics if they'd have me. But to be honest If I was offered an art job drawing as a comic artist or an animator I'd take it in a heart beat.
I love your style. I can't tell you names of the artists it reminds me of to be honest. I am woofully poor at remembering artist names. I can look at the work and know I like it but that's sadly it. I remember faces, images, artwork etc.. not names or facts. You can try making a photocopy of the art before scanning it. This may decrease some shading details but in some cases it will deal with the bleed problem.

I like using printer paper myself... I like the smoothness of the texture, and it takes being erased and reworked much better than regular drawing pad paper.

The Dragon Skull is very cool.
Did you use reference for that? Or is that out of your head? Either way - cool design and concept .

Your artwork would be perfect for album covers or novels. (I used to be interested in doing artwork for that too back when I was in highschool)
I am the same way. I'll really like an artist's style but I'll only recognize their art when I see it. I'm bad with remembering names too sometimes.
I'll try a photocopy. That's a good idea. Thanks! :)

Thanks! Just came up with it from my head. I've always had a bit of a dragon fetish so I'm drawing pics with dragons all the time. Cuz, dragons are just cool ya know? Being able to fly and breathe fire would be fun. :D

Exactly! (kindred spirits you and I) Sketching/drawing paper can get so messy if you have to erase something too many times. But crisp typing or printer paper stays cleaner. I love to draw with just a plain old ink pen on printer paper.
Plus, I like that printer and typing paper is a "brighter" white then just drawing paper. Guess my brain just likes a "crisper" look or something. See, now I'm thinking of potato chips after all my "crispy" comments. LOL. (god, I'm hopeless...I love food)

Sketching/drawing paper can get so messy if you have to erase something too many times. You guys need to do drawings in stages; you're trying to do everything in one step. A preliminary sketch or two will help you eliminate a lot of the guesswork that you're currently doing in what should be the finished drawing stage.

That's how I usually draw though. Everything in one step. It's rare that I go back and change anything once I've drawn it. But, if I do need to back and change something, I'd rather do it on the printer paper then drawing paper. Just a personal preference. (I don't have the patience for preliminary sketching like you. That's why your stuff is so good. I'm too impatient! LOL)

A few. I need to look at a picture for reference for some, but for others, I can just draw them from memory. Horses and dragons are my favorite. I could draw dragons and horses all day. :D

Because I use to draw on sketch paper all the time and just having to erase once would drive me crazy because then the paper would have a big smudge on it. That's why I changed over to using pens completely and printer paper.
I did do some portraits of people when I was younger with pencil and it took a lot of erasing for me to get their faces right. I grew to hate erasing after that experience. LOL. Now I'm just lazy. Instead of erasing something that bugs me, I scrap it and start all over again. I draw things very quickly. That's the other reason I hated erasing because it almost encouraged me to slow down and then I'd goof up a drawing because I'd start obsessing about every little imperfection.
Now, I just draw the way I wash my hair. I draw, and go. :D No more of that damn erasing over and over again! LOL.

I throw away lots of drawings.Which is why I suggest that people do more preliminary sketching - basically, in each stage of the drawing you're building on the previous steps and fine-tuning. At the final pencil or ink stage, there shouldn't be any major decisions left to make, so you can concentrate on the actual linework.
Any decent art teacher would tell you the same.

Great minds think alike. :D I throw away stuff that I know is just a rough sketch. But if I draw it and it looks "complete" the first time, I'm done and I leave it alone. Guess it just depends on what the heck I'm drawing. lol.

Actually, I tend to do that with my computer artwork. (but that's because erasing is easier) I'll set up a basic piece, go back and tweek it over and over again until I get the right shapes, etc. Then when that is done, I'll fill in the color, but go back and tweek that. Then, I'll go back and fill in the shading. I guess I'm more patient with my computer artwork for some reason. I make more of an effort to do my computer stuff in stages. Now, if I could just apply that effort to my paper sketches...

I was a big fan of cartoons when I was younger including comic strips like The Far Side, Garfield, etc. So, every once in a while, I like to do more "cartoony" looking stuff.

I dig drawing "creepy" looking characters. This character is supposed to have kind of a "Joker" feel to him. I was going to leave him bald but then I decided to throw in the hair at the last minute.

Thanks. :o I dig cool bone structure so I guess I've gotten pretty decent at faces over the years.
Hmmm....I have no idea what medium I should try with this one. I used to use colored pencils alot. Maybe I'll try that. I'll post an updated pic in the future.

None. I've just been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I did take some art classes in highschool but I already knew how to draw by then.
