Looks and reads so good!!

Rictor is growing on me. I was never a big fan, but I'm enjoying his presence in this book.

It's quite spooky. I suppose that creepy guy just found Syrin where the guy who beat her up abandonded her and decided she would make good "company" for him

It feel a little like sidetracking from the main plot though. But I'm under the impression that X-Factor doesn't go in arcs anyway.

decent preview, although i wish sook was still on the book.
i have a question, though:
tryp first was going to kill siryn (until layla intervened) then he next mentioned she was someone good enough to "bring home to kill mom" or something, and then he beat the sh$* out of her at the end of last issue. i'm having trouble reading his motives about her, i guess. if he wanted to kill her originally why didn't he kill her at the end of issue 4?

I may have misread the scene, but I didn't think that was Tryp himself beating Siryn at the end of issue 4... I interpreted it as just another flunky of Singularity. Either way, though, he may have decided she could be useful in the future, but right now is a player he doesn't want on the field. Who knows? With a psychic working for them, maybe the future changed and now she needs to be alive.

Looks good. I'm starting to miss Sook already though. These pages pale in comparison. Good enough for me though.

Oh, FYI, it looks like X-Factor is getting Hardcover (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785123512/qid=1142534535/sr=1-11/ref=sr_1_11/103-4973531-6477463?s=books&v=glance&n=283155) treatment. I've only gotten the first two issues, so I may just end up picking up the HC instead. Did I mention I love HC's! :D

I'm hoping this is just a fill-in until they announce the new permanent artist, because Calero's work is not bad, it just doesn't do it for me.

Callero is on it at least through #12, this has been confirmed.

I'm liking Callero's art. He's got a pretty unique style. Sort of a Sienkevicz/Hitch feel. I hope fans aren't too tough on him just 'cause he's not Sook. If he's given a chance to develop and really make this book his own, it could be really cool.

i think it's supposed to be tryp. look at his face when he opens the package and then the character's face looking down at siryn. not to mention, both tryp and the character beating on siryn are wearing a suit and a red tie (and both have blue eyes).
and you're right about tryp's reasoning, plans could have changed.

Actually, I don't think it's Tryp... and yet it is Tryp. It isn't Tryp junior (who has more hair), but this person is referred to as Tryp, and so I'm thinking it is another of the Tryp relatives (maybe the middle child?). Tryp= three; I think we are dealing with three different people: Elder Tryp (from issue #1), Tryp Jr. (from the dealings with Siryn and Madrox), and this Tryp (who beats the snot out of Siryn and receives the dead body).

well i think that all of the Tryp's are really just one Tryp from multiple points in time.

I'm sure there's something going on like that. Ever since I saw the statue of Romulus and Remus in the elder Tryp's room in #1, I've been pretty convinced that we were dealing with some kind of "Multiple Man" situation- whether it be dupes, time displaced dupes, alternate reality dupes, clones, or whatever, there definitely seems to be something out of the ordinary with the Tryps.

I thought the same thing about Tryp. He was acting bizarre. And I think that it might be because he's a multiple man himself....or the other things you just said above. Hmmm, we could be right, we could just be straight tryping. :p
sorry.I just couldn't resist.... ;)

"Unfinished", or "uninteresting"? ;)

When you have a franchise like X-Men, with so many characters an a convoluted past, I think that it's okay to move forward every once in a while and not refer to old continuity. I mean, realistically, EVERY character has history with EVERY other character. :p

Plus, X-Factor is great as is, being an isolated X-book in its own little corner.

I'm not suggesting that continuity should be disregarded or ignored, but maybe just...not mentioned, either.

No. He is still powered according to the X-Men: The 198 Files. :)

kind of makes you wonder why doesn't it? there's no hiding that the AoA characters (Sugar Man and Holocaust) have been systematically killed off in the past few years. why is McCoy still alive? and why is he hogging one of the 198 spots?

Sugar Man was fairly hated, and I'm surprised it took him this long to be killed. Holocaust was in limbo a while as well, and finally killed in Exiles. Dark Beast however still has potential, given that his character can easily be behind a bunch of troubles for the X-Men in the future. We'll have to wait and see, those who showed up in the 198 Files had upcoming storylines or appearances. :)

Agreed. I love Mammomax compared to Sugar Man. God... what were they thinking with him getting the port over from AoA. Everyone else at least had some potential. :p

Peter David said on his blog that it was Tryp Junior, that it was the art that made him look murky. There was not supposed to be any confusion over who it was.

No- the hitman was sent to kill Rictor, since SI believed he was the "X-Factor" who messed up their plans. What they didn't know was that Layla was the "X-Factor", and it looks like she can take care of herself. :)
