Ever since Powell did that splash page for Avengers Disassembled I've had this sneaking suspicion that he'd fit into the Avengers world somehow. I couldn't quite picture it though. Then I read the introduction to the latest Goon trade, where he's described as working on the flipside of Will Eisner's Spirit - mining stories about life on the work side of the tracks.

I think Hawkeye could be a good fit for him. Clint has always been one of the most down to earth members of the team. He frequently quit because as he saw it they were operating on far too large a scale. Powell could create a suitably down at heel, grounded world for him - without being unnecessarily 'grim n' gritty'. Think of Hawkeye's bright purple costume - yet he is most suited for street level criminals, assassins etc. Less so space villains (not that he can't, it's just.....the man's got a bow and arrow). An enlarged cast of supporting characters created by Powell could be nice and his humour is a nice fit I think. Plus it would be good for the guy to get some exposure among the 'big Two'. Now I admit my intial introduction to Clint was through Byrne's West Coast Avengers in the 80's, so maybe I have the completely wrong handle on the character. But Powell just feels right. What do peoples think?

Nuts to that. Not only should comic book characters stay dead when they die, Eric Powell should stay chained to his desk drawing nice issues of the goon for us good boys and girls. None of this "Powell should draw hawkeye" crap...the Goon ain't even a monthly book and you wanna' give the poor feller MORE work to do?

I think Powell's sensibilities work perfectly for Hawkeye. I'd like see this book.

I'd be interested to see any regular well-done book, Hawkeye or not.
Remember, when Hawkeye was first introduced, his costume was not the purple leather harness he most frequently is shown in.... it was navy blue over lighter blue. It was a direct conflict with Iron Man's red and yellow armor, and fit in more with the Black Widow's black mesh outfit. Check it out in the Iron Man Marvel Masterworks volume!

To quote the movie Jerimiah Johnson... "Some say he's dead.... some say he'll never be..."

I think as long as his books and adventures are in print, he'll always be around...

Are you kiddin'? That boy needs working on. He should be locked up in some workhouse somewhere, pumping out sequential art on an hourly basis for our reading pleasure. Give Powell the guy in the purple trunks!

Well, I can't argue with that.

Yeah, if Powell was gonna do a Marvel book, that one is a good choice. I wouldn't mind seeing him on a Joe Fixit Mini, or any of the old Horror books: werewolf by night, Frankenstein or Xombie.
