View Full Version : So. . I've booked our first Vacation together
after over 2 years together. . I've finally managed to get Nick to set foot on an Airplane.
no, I wasn't able to convince him to go with me to Dragon*con (:(), but baby-steps.
we are all set for VEGAS, baby!
early June, 5 nights at the Flamingo Hilton, and a day tour to the Grand Canyon.
pretty damn good deal (6 days/5 nights, airfare, and 13 hour tour to Hoover Dam/Grand Canyon, for only $750 per person).
I then proceeded to shock our travel agent by managing to get tickets to both Zumanity and "O" (two Circque Du Soliel shows I've been dying to see), after he was unable to. . .dunno what was so hard, I just went online to the Cirque home page, and booked thru there.
gonna be SOOOOO much fun.
don't know how I'm gonna make it another 2 1/2 months until we go. I was like that dang kid in the Disney commercial last night "I'm too excited to sleep"
:)
so I just had to share.

Grand Canyon is awesome (in a literal kind of awesome).
We took a family vacation there in 2004. I was in such amazement when I first saw it I started shaking.
So you'll have a great time Bert.
I thought you were from Southern Cal for some reason. . . . .

Vegas eh? Nice
A little word of advice for next time. It's generally better to buy tickets for shows while you are there. It only applies to the ones that play there and not the ones that are limited (like concerts and stuff). Cirque de Soleil is a perfect example. In order to book seats, lots of the shows offer the unsold seats at half price. You usually have a selection of which one to go to
Also, some casinos offer free show tickets. I got 2 of them last time for Follies Bergiere (which is an amazing show, I highly recommend it) and Mystere' along with a free dinner. I remember seeing some of the Cirque de Soleil tickets there too that I could had chosen from.
You should have a great time either way
And the Flamingo has interconnecting pools with waterslides! And penguins!

Wow, cool! Check online sites for tourism for Vegas and for the casinos, etc. You may be able to find some of the slew of coupons my father-in-law finds to use when they go. They often get "buy one/get on free" coupons for shows, for buffet meals, etc. at different casinos... and also, coupons that give you a bit for gambling when you buy chips (i.e. buy 20/get 20). Some of those may involve signing up as a "member" at the casino.
My father-in-law is a bargain-hunter. We went to Tunica casinos with them once (in Mississippi), and between the coupons he had gotten online and the ones he'd picked up at rest stops, etc., he ended up spending a grand total of $60 for four days for all our food.
You two have fun, and enjoy your trip! :)

Wow...I'm impressed. Six days and five nights in Vegas would KILL ME!!!! I have no doubt about my inability to survive Vegas for that length of time. The only time I was there I got a total of six hours of sleep in four days. Don't get me wrong, I had an absolute blast.
If you get the chance, see The Blue Man Group show, it was fantastic.

The Travel Agent lives in Vegas, and when I told him the two Cirque shows I was interested in, he said that he was positive that I wouldnt' be able to get cheap tix (from that place on the strip), and that it would be hard to get tix from the hotels. . he didn't even want to attempt to book for me.
so I'm pretty happy that I got tix. . and they are still cheaper than a broadway, or the touring Cirque shows I've seen :)
we are going to use the half price tix place for off nights. . .probably to see LaCage, but Follies is a great suggestions too.
thanks Fabian!
Sounds like fun!

This is going to be our first extended vacation together.
the extent of our "travels" have been a couple of weekends to Houston (staying at his Dad's or at my parents), and one overnight trip to Dallas (for WizardWorld two years ago).
this is gonna be 24/7 for 9 days (the 5 day week, and two weekends).
:)

I'm already signing up for stuff at the casinos online :). . I'm a "bargain-hunter" too . . hehe
I've been to Tunica! (drove there w/ Chip a few years ago during a visit to Montgomary Al to visit him). I won a nice chunk at Harrah's

Well,
Nick's never been, and I haven't been in years (they were BUILDING the Bellagio the last time I was there).
so we probably won't be doing all that much gambling. . but doing a LOT of going from Hotel to Hotel, and looking around.
oh, and thanks everyone for the encouragement. . I'm sure we'll have a blast!. . and we might get to see Rally and Mark!
Well dang. Let me know which days, maybe we can drive down and take you guys out to lunch, unless that's intruding.
not intruding in the least!
I've already shot you a PM w/ details on what days are good. . .
and by the way, you ABSOLUTELY are not treating us for lunch. . we are gonna treat you.
either a buffet, or maybe Hamburger Marys (the "drag" burger place that our travel agent recommended that is across from the Hard Rock Casino).
:)

Follies was awesome. Are you signing up for the player's clubs? In person they give you a whole bunch of stuff and valuable coupons
Oh and Hamburger Marys in West Hollywood is better (yeah I've been there).

Rally,
I'm all excited !
if we get to spend some time w/ ya'll that would be even better!
we are going to look into what shows we can get cheap tix for on Tues Morning, for Tues. night.
if ya'll end up staying over in Vegas. . you HAVE to come to a show w/ us (most likely "La Cage", "Jubilee" or "Follies"). . OUR treat!
:)
