The roof collapsed right over the head of Conservative MSPs in my parliament today! Is this some kind of sign from God warning us of our immediate destruction?

The funny thing is, the architect (who is now dead coincidentally) has a record of designing buildings with collapsing roofs, yet they STILL let him build the thing!

This is like when Mel Gibson was making his Jesus movie and the actor playing Jesus was struck by lightning. Twice.

Take the hint, Blair. Repent.

That is hilarious- especially since it's a government building. Were there no other architects in the whole of Scotland?!

CONSPIRACY THEORY!

I think it's because us pesky Scots wanted our own parliament. The current state of misrepair is Tony Blair's "payback for devolution!"

You mean there are still Conservative MSPs?

This reminds me of something that happened way back in the Dark Ages....I think it was in Italy, in the 1970's...and a member of the Social Democratic Party, while campaigning, said in front of a group of people "If I ever wish to raise taxes, may God strike me dead!" He then had a heart attack and died.

The next day, the newspapers headlines read "God Pronounces Judgement on a Social Democrat"

I'm also reminded of the incident in the 1930's when Huey Long issued a contract for a new Capitol Building for Louisiana.

his opponents in the State Assembly claimed, probably correctly, that Huey had taken kick-backs from the construction firm and that there was no need for a new Capitol Building.

It was Hurricane season and Huey allegedly had a guy go up on the cupola and drill holes in the dome directly over the Opposition benches.

And, of course, William Wallace, the Scottish hero from "Braveheart", was played by Gibson. But Wallace definitely was not conservative.

The Conservatives obviously succeeded in privatizing their side of the building. That's what you get for cutting corners and making Halliburton International do the construction work, guys...

Well, MSP, really. But he's fat and very loud, so it seems like more. :p

The Scottish Parliament is a crazy bit of architecture. I've been checking out images of it and it is pretty un-conventional stuff. I'm not sure if I like it but it sure is ambitious design.

I personally don't like the look of the building. I would have preferred a massive pyramid. Nothing makes a political statement like a big fuck-off pyramid!

Either that or they could just have set up Parliament in Edinburgh castle.

I like the big fuck off pyramid idea but using Edinburgh castle seems an even better one.
