I was at the comic shop and next door to it is a gamer's place and they have a bunch of X-box set ups. I was at the shop for awhile so I decided to try out the thing.

I normally just play sports games, so I tried out Madden 2006. I liked it, though I got slaughtered both times. Learning to play is hard for someone who really hasn't owned or played video games regularly since the original Nintendo set.

There are certainly some games out there with a pretty tough learning curve. Those Madden games especially. I didn't start really playing video games until I was 30. So basically, I've been playing for two years. I remember at first having the thought that I would never "get it," never remember button combinations and the like, but the brain is an amazing thing. It takes practice. All of a sudden, your beating the game on the hardest level.
And with video games, the practice is usually pretty entertaining. Frustrating, sure, but it pays off.

Yep. I got my ass kicked in Fight Night the other day. 5 minutes later, it clicked in my head, and I was knocking down Ali. :D

Sports games are among my favorite hobbies, besides comics. Actually I like all video games in general, but Madden, NCAA, NHL and now MVP are my passion.

Things have changed since the old nintendo days. But there is different skill levels and sliders to help you out. As you get better, raise things up.

I played Madden 2006 again today on my visit to the comic shop.

I went next door to the game place and got set up.

After just three games total in the course of 2 visits, I managed to figure out enough of the plays and controls to pull off a victory.

Game 1 Eagles - I lost 90-0
Game 2 Eagles - I lost 34-0
Game 3 Ravens - I won 24-3

Not bad, eh?

Just wait until some other game catches your eye. All the button combinations are different and the controller will again feel foreign. But now that you have the idea, muscle memory will make the learning curve that much faster.

Never had a ego about my gaming but I think I am way above average, except when it comes to sports games.

My problem is with new sports games they are more realistic and well the more real it is the less I know. I like to play sports but I dont like watching them and dont understand crap.

If its not tecmo bowl, double dribble, ring king, hat trick, track and field 2, pro wrestling, virtua tennis, bases loaded than I dont know what the hell I am doing. So basically if its a sports game that is old and simple I can do it.

I tried a madden game couple years ago and after blindly picking options I was in the game and play menu comes up, Im looking at it like Im a child from a third world country trying to read a french instruction manual for a nuclear reactor. And ran out of time I guess cause it just went back to the game and stuff started happening and I was mashing buttons and next thing I know the other team is playing. I never did get it.

Give me a adventure, shooter, action, fighting, role playing any day of the week.

Madden = best game ever. I've played it for years now, it never gets old.

Enjoy yourself, and I suggest purchasing yourself your own system. I haven't tried Madden on the 360 yet, but it seems to be the future. The graphics alone might be enough to force me to pick one up soon though- maybe when 2007 comes out. Oh, and you haven't played Madden until you've played with someone else- either someone next to you or over Live. Once you get some plays down with your favorite team, find someone to play with. Games get too intense.

I played a couple more games today.

I came out strong then faded against the Jets but still won 20-16, and then got killed by the damn Lions 33-10.

I think it's kind of funny that you're posting about EVERY game you play on x-box, that's all.

I have no life, this is the highlights. Or lowlights when you consider the losses.

Has anyone played a baseball game on X-Box? What do you recommend? I was thinking of trying one out.

Actually the only games I really play on X-Box are sports games, with occasional ones that peak my interest like the X-Men Legends games.

I used to purchase/play baseball games, the last being MLB 2k5 for 2ksports. I thought it was trash. MVP from EA Sports was much better, but because of the new MLB exclusivity for 2kSports, EA can't make MVP pro team games anymore. I have no idea if MLB 2k6 is any good -- I've heard mixed reviews about it. However, I know the MVP released (or is releasing) the game with college teams, and I'd personally say that's your best bet. Either way, I say try them both out yourselves before you purchase.

Oh, I have no plans to purchase. I just play the games at the video game center next to my local comic shop.

Thanks for your insight, it's appreciated.

Easy answer.

Without a doubt MVP 06. By EA sports. It's a real duel between pitcher and batter.

EA lost the MLB liscense this year, but they actually put out a College baseball title. I heard it's good as well. Alluminum Bats!

I tried out a baseball game today on X-box. It was All Star Baseball. I found it okay. It was the first game and I lost 17-6 while learning what I needed to do to catch the ball etc.

I did manage to smack 3 homers so that was good. I'll get better as I continue to play I'm sure.

I played Madden 2006 against another person today for the first time. The owner of the shop I play the game at asked if I wanted to play, so I gave it a shot.

I was definitely much sloppier than I am against the computer, but I did pull out a Patriots victory over the Eagles 24-7.

Since I started playing Madden 2006, I've been winning consistenly since figuring out the game.

However, I was never able to get the rushing game to do much of anything.

Today I finally cracked the game plan. I found a running play called Counter Weak that let me just bust big runs with Corey Dillon. I ended up setting new records on the machine with 98 points and 332 rushing yards.

See, you do learn something new every day.

But if you refuse to listen to the wisdom of Admiral Ackbar, you may be interested in the new Nintendo Wii. It is supposedly going to be very inexpensive and will launch with a bunch of sports games. Or it may be a bunch of sports on one game, I can't really remember.

I actually sold my XBox yesterday. Really enjoyed it. In terms of the consoles I've had, I'd rank it as No 3 behind the PS 1 and the SNES.

It's $250 and comes with Wii Sports, but it's not a real sports sim like Madden.

£39, which is about $70.

I bought it pre-owned for £88 with two games.

I really didn't like the Xbox when it first came out. The first wave controllers were monstrous and I didn't like any of the games.

With the small controller and the announcement of Jedi Academy, I finally caved in and bought one. Glad I did. The Xbox got much more attention than any of the other consoles, imo. Plus, I fell in love with Halo.

At first I thought Halo was just another over hyped FPS (as do most other people who have only played it for a few minutes, and then make their assumptions), but after giving it a chance, its true genius shined through and hooked me for the release of Halo 2.

My only gripe with the console is, they are of shit quality. My xbox, and all of my friends Xbox's lasted about a couple of years before finaly biting the dust. Leading up to its death, games would freeze frequently.

Damn. That's cheap. I'd love to get my own system. It's not like I need a lot of games, just the Madden game.

First up is the science fiction convention, then Christmas, then the 24 Season 5 DVD set, and bills throughout. Then I can think about getting a system.

Yeah, that is a pretty good deal and of course with the 360 out and the biggest of the handful of remaining titles yet to be released for the system getting cancelled left and right, prices on the original Box will only continue to drop.

I got lucky myself. $75 for the system from a guy moving to California who needed some fast cash. Threw in about a dozen games that either didn't interest me or I already had for PS2. Traded them in at GameStop and double credit thanks to employee error.

The games are incredibly cheap too. The average price I paid was about $18 for each one. Since I traded in each one I finished, I tended to end up paying $8 net.
