Give us a chance to play it first.

What BlairH said.
On paper (and from the screen shots), I thought True Crime:New York City had a chance of finally beating GTA (which is saying something, considering I love the series).
Unfortunately, the execution wasn't as nice. For one, it was a buggy mess. For another, cars still controlled like they were boats, targeting was sub-standard, there was cussing for cussing's sake (those of you who accuse GTA of it, rent TC:NYC, you'll never say it again), and a rather boring storyline. Some of the features promised were pretty cool, and worked out fine. But if the basics aren't solid (like they are in GTA), then no one is going to want to play far enough to experience them.
That's the problem with many games that try to follow that mold.
So while 'The Godfather' sounds like it could be a dang fine contender (I'm pumped about it, Scarface, and Saints Row), I'll have to play it myself. I've been fooled before.

Bad as in 'good', or bad as in...uh...'bad'?

Ah, those. Most of those vids have been out for a while.
While we're on the subject of these types of games, I just got my new issue of Game Informer, and Scarface:The World is Yours is sounding more and more like something I have to get the moment it comes out.
While you're still rebuilding your empire (the game operates in an AU where Tony survived the final climactic battle of the movie), you have to do everything yourself. Steal cars, scavenge weapons, etc.
But as your influence grows, you can actually call on one of your drivers to pick you up in a car from your fleet. Hire hitmen and enforcers, who themselves become playable characters, figure out ways to decorate your mansion, stuff like that.
I'm really glad they took the time to delay it, and begin working on polishing and adding in stuff. I remember some of the initial screenshots looking like crap, we're talking pre-GTA3 quality here.

yeah, i cant really vote until i play it. that being said, GTA is gonna be hard to top/not vote for since The Godfather prolly takes some of it's elements from it....

It got an 83% from IGN. Though a lot of that seems to stem from lack of Al Pacino, and mini-games.
I think it sounds awesome. You can slowly take over pretty much every business, wipe out the rival crime families...

been playing the game since yesterday. can't compare it to GTA:SA or even GTA:VC since I never got to play those. I'm having lots of fun playing it mainly due to the character being under the employ of the Corleones. starting mob wars is fun. :D
