If you havent caught on to this series yet you better get on it.
Its got great artwork with a pretty good storyline.
Someone posted on another board that they think Oh Great is the best artist they've ever seen.
I cant say that he's my absolute fave but he's definitely in my top 5.
If you're into scanlations you can pick up Air Gear at (EDITED TO CONFORM TO FORUM RULES).
If you would rather wait for the licnesed version then you wont have to wait too long.
Air Gear has been licensed and volume 1 will be release in July 2006.

I was at NYCC at the Del Rey panel and they introduced the title on the projection and specifically said they are not editing it in any detrimental way and that we should expect this to be an awesome license from them.

"Not editing in a detrimental way" is a statement with loopholes.
But I guess they can't actually say "not editing it at all", since they have to remove and add text and so forth.
It'd be a damn crime to make the same mistake twice. And Air Gear isn't half so naughty as Tenjho Tenge, it doesn't really warrant graphical editing.

From what I've heard all of the content in Air gear will be left in tact, shrink-wrapped and the book will be given a mature rating.
I really look forward to buying the series when its released in July.

The anime comes out next month, by the way. Oooh, I've been looking forward to animated Air Gear for a while.

Really..
If the anime comes out in Japan next month than maybe we can expect to see DVDs of it in the USA before 2007.

del rey has already shown they don't edit much.
for all of the readers who are not familiar with del rey, they are IMO very friendly to veteran manga readers and go out of the way to not touch too much of the book. art and story wise. they prefer to explain anything weird in the back as "translation" notes.
at NYCC, the audience applauded this stance and they specifically said they will simply won't license a book if they can't present it the way the creator originally intended.
SO BUY DEL REY! and specifically Love Roma! :D

To be fair, apple pro is right. Del Ray is does good work with very few, if any, edits to thhe series they put out. Very fan-friendly. I like the little cultural notes they put at the end of their books to explain some of the word and sight gags.

I'm feeling pretty good about Del Rey, actually... I read Genshiken and I've seen Negima!, and they've done a damn fine job so far... it's just that after we got burned by CMX, I think any O!G fans are justifiably a little gun-shy.

And I hear it's (Tenjho Tenge's) the one damn series they actually bother to seriously edit for some freakin' reason....

Please delete the link to Scanlations.
It's against forum rules. It being a licensed manga that you KNOW is licensed doesn't help things.

Oh Great's Hentai Manga released by Fantagraphics are actually less edited then the original Japanese releases according to Hentai fans.....
And I doubt Air Gear will be affected by the TT problems, since TT's problems are specific to that licencse [DC hasn't edited anything else, so I suspect there's some bizarro issue that caused it that they can't talk about contractually]

"* Please be aware of copyright laws. The unlawful reproduction/posting of copyrighted materials is unacceptable. As a general guideline, no more than 3 pages of any one comic should be posted."
Thanks for not flaming me ^_^ I'm sorry folks, but it's true- Scanlations may seem neat and all, but a lot of the time they're a horrible, monstrous entity that's seriously abusing the american anime/manga industry in many respects. The majority of these sites post a TON of licensed material, even some that's been available for 10+ years in English, in many editions. And it's quite illegal ^_^

Done!
I'm looking forward to DelRey's edition, which has been solicited already, as they have top notch skills at touch up and translation, and have the sense to put the footnotes at the back of the book, so it doesn't distract you or mess with the art while you're reading it.

At this point, I think the continued CMX editing issue has got to be a matter of pride... they won't admit they were wrong to do it, so they're gonna keep doing it.
I'm just waiting for them to hit vol. 10, so it becomes obvious to any rational person that the book is in no way suitable for anyone under the age of 18... unless the start editing the violence, too.
They might.

Anyways lets try to keep this thread more about looking forward to Del Rey's release of Air Gear and not about how horribly wrong it was for CMX to edit Ten-Ten.

No kiddin'.
At any rate, I'm totally stoked for it. I've got up to vol. 11 in the original tankobon, and read translations up to vol. 07... I think the major appeal is the artwork, to be sure, but the story is pretty entertaining. I actually enjoy the long segments of character development (such as almost all of vol. 04) almost as much as the action chapters, if only because Oh! Great is a talented user of visual metaphor and effective translation of emotion and thought through illustration. The story isn't particularly unique (young punks rise in the world through talent and determination), but it's very creatively told.
Another fascinating aspect of Air Gear is the use of graphic design in conjunction with illustration. A great deal of creative iconography is being employed throughout the story, from the badges and emblems of the various Air Trek teams to the illustrated kanji sfx. O!G and his team have really stretched into new directions with the visual styling of this series, and it's worth checking out for that alone.

There aint no doubt there's some great art on this book.
Thats the major reason why I keep reading it.
I also used to be a roller-blader so that keeps me interested as well.
The story aint half bad either.
It hasnt gotten to a point that I'm uninterested yet.
I'm actually eagerly awaiting the release of each scanned chapter with baited breath.
