I know I'm gonna get laughed at for this, but at our graduation, 94 thank you, one of our validictorians played Rod Stewarts - Forever Young. Yeah I know Rod's not hip, but the words really touched home. IF not that then how about Walk by Pantera.

It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday by Boyz 2 Men. People will love it. LOVE IT!!!! Especially if you get members of the school chorus to sing it.

Then again...........

Someone should write a graduation anthem with the theme "Fuck you, I hope I never see any of you bastards again." In fact, that should be the title.

If that song was played during my graduation, I'd start a riot.

I don't see what hip has to do with it. Rod Stewart's work post 1974 is just plain bad, especially in the 80s.

In any case his "Forever Young" (http://members.aol.com/hannuschka/lyrics/ly_frame.htm) is just a soft-rock reworking of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" (http://bobdylan.com/songs/forever.html).

I dunno, but I suppose playing Husker Du's "Never Talking to Young Again" might have roughly the same spirit. (I almost thought of Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" but realized that would be more appropriate to the reunion.)

And does anyone else find the concept of the Sex Pistols' "Pretty Vacant" and the Replacements' "Bastards of Young" as grad songs endlessly amusing?

Hilariously thats pretty close to what "Time of your life" by Green Day is. Yet, its played all the time at graduations because people don't actually pay attention to the lyrics.

The song is about a girl who screwed over a guy. The guy is basically singing that he hopes she had the time of her life while doing it and "***k you" for it.

But because that particular song has strings in it, it is a completely pussified song, no matter what the lyrics are.

I remember people suggesting "Another Brick in the Wall" when I was graduating. Instead we had some shitty Styx song.

I remember some fucker suggested the Madonna cover of "American Pie" at my high school. I recall having to be chemically sedated.

I've repressed the memory of what my graduation song was. Either that or very early senility has set in.

It was 1989 though so I'm sure it sucked it whatever it was.
