Just from being around manga forums and other fans, I've heard of Black Cat. More than once I've heard people say this manga should be licensed.

So I see it at my comic store today and I decide to pick up volume #1 because:
1. it's only 8 bucks plus I have a 25% off coupon from NYCC at my local comic book store
2. fan buzz was positive
3. it looks solid from flipping through it

My thoughts are it is a solid book. The main character and his partner are original and interesting. The female ally is interesting and a possible love interest. The criminals so far are interestings as well. The only bad thing so far is that it's not knocking my socks off either.

You guys have any thoughts on this book? Does it get better like One Piece does?

When I was reading it, I felt like I was experiencing manga/anime dejavu.

I saw flashes of Cowboy Bebop, with a touch of One Piece, and even a little bit of Flame of Recca. Was the Cat the result of an illicate affair between Spike and Edward? Was he a distant cousin of Luffy and Recca? His partner reminded me of a cross between Sanji and Jet Black. The girl who hired them could have been a close relative of Nami.

Despite this, I will probably get volume 2 when it becomes available.

I agree... it's good so far. Not great yet though.

Also, for people out there interested in picking up new books — 2 new series I think are quite good are School Rumble and Pastel by Del Rey. SR is very original and Pastel is very deriviative but both have their own special quality to them and are very well done.
