I'm sure some people will mention Thriller, but to this day I have yet to see a video that impressed me more than the one Pearl Jam did for Jeremy.

Definitely Duke Ellington's "Symphony in Black."
And the White Stripes videos are a lot of fun on the whole.

For intent of just being fun - "Big Me."

You know, these days I try not to watch music videos. I mean, there's nothing worse for me than to associate a song with the stupid video.

Possibly Men At Work's videos for "Who Can It Be Now?" and "Down Under." That band's videos were hilarious.
Cyndi Lauper's video for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was, well, fun...and her video for "Time After Time" was heartbreaking.

Talk about hard to pick! I think Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" might be my all-time favorite. There are about a million others that I thought were great too. I did watch Korn's "Twisted Transistor" video not too long ago, and I thought it was really funny.

I can't belive no-one has mention Paul Simon's "Call Me Al" video featuring Chevy Chase, it's a classic!
I also love the video for "All the Things She Said" by Tatu:

Oooh, yeah. Haven't seen that one in years, but it was one of the great videos of the 1980s...maybe of all time.
And who would be less likely to have a hit *music video* than Paul Simon? :)

There was a Nine Inch Nails video (I forget the song) that was banned because it depicted an old man strapping himself to a "torture chair" that tortured him to death. I saw it at a record colletcors show a few years ago. Fucking gross. But good special effects.

Wow. There's a whole slew of them that I like. But here's a list of some:
- all Bjork videos
- all Devo videos (no matter how cheesy they are)
- all Daft Punk videos
- Twilight Zone by Golden Earring
- Girls On Film (uncensored) by Duran Duran
- Sledgehammer and Big Time by Peter Gabriel
- Land of Confusion by Genesis
- Smack by Bitch Up by Prodigy
- Sweet Lullaby by Deep Forest (perhaps the most beautiful I've ever seen)
- California by Wax
That's all I can think of right now

Does anyone remember the earliest years of MTV when nudity snuck into videos? I'm thinking of a video by The Tubes that showed both female and male frontal nudity. I don't remember the song, but it was set in a locker room. IIRC, Billy Joel's "Allentown" video seemed to have nudity, too.

I have to say, Pat Benetar's "Love is A Battlefield" demonstrates everything that is right about 80's videos, and wrong with 90's video's
It told a story. It had a dramatic structure: beginning - climax - denouement. High school English classes should teach this video, chronicling Pat Benetar's epic battle against an evil pimp, whom she defeats with the power of her shaking chest.

Don't forget Pat's back-up, the chorus line of jiggly-busted street-walkers. :D
As far as Pat Benatar videos go, I love her World War II story in "Shadows Of The Night". Speaking of Benatar, one of my favorite uses of her songs took place in a gay dive bar in Oklahoma City. My roomie at the time--who was a 4 foot plus femme dyke with a profound love of drag queens--was helping a local drag queen perform "Hell Is For Children". She dressed up Shirley Temple style and walked onstage with a cleaning pad and a can of Comet. While she frantically scrubbed the stage, the queen came out dolled up as Joan Crawford with a wire coat hanger held firmly in hand. Cue the Pat Benatar classic! :D

Not surprisingly, I can't remember either of the songs, but I remember really liking two videos.
One was a Roots video that was a parody of hip-hop videos. It was genius.
And the other was Korn's video with the bullet travelling the whole time.
Those were both great videos.

Peter Gabriel: "Sledgehammer"--groundbreaking--bizarre, and probably one of the most historically significant music videos made in the 1980s.
Bjork usually has interesting videos. I still remember that odd video for "Human Behaviour" with the guy in the bear-suit. I've always kinda wondered if that was Kanye West chasing her.
