"The Big Apple bouncer who has surfaced as a suspect in the despicable killing of Imette St. Guillen answers to several aliases, at least three of which have ties to the fantasy world of comic books."

disturbing, for sure, but -- totally off-topic -- i've got to wonder just what the "boston herald" is. any publication (on-line or otherwise) even pretending to be a reputable news outlet would never use the adjective "despicable" except in an editorial.

Maybe Laurel J. Sweet has ties to the fantasy world of Warner Bros. cartoons.
(The path to the article includes "News & Opinions." The writer could be a columnist rather than a reporter.)

i'm familiar (by name only, from having spent most of my adult life as a newspaper reporter & then editor) with the boston globe. i guess the herald is the other boston daily. once upon a time i would've known that.
i'm thinking, though, that the piece ran as a news story. the line "marvel comics declined to comment for this story" is tell-tale, at least for me. had "despicable" in the lede & "bizarre to say the least" in the 2nd graf shown up on my terminal as an assistant city editor, i'd have recommended that the reporter head back to j-school (not that i ever attended one myself) asap. but heck, maybe i'm just too old-school for my own good. &/or maybe the herald is a ny-post-ish tab.

The Boston Herald is a right wing rag. Light on news, except for the sensationalist variety, and heavy on gossip. The only reason I've read it is beacuse they have guys outside of the train station giving out free copies of that morning's paper to the commuters going home for the evening. I've never paid for a copy since whatever they charge, it's too much.

thanks for the clarification. sounds like my speculation about "a ny-post-ish tab" was on target.
& yes, i realize that my oh-so-fascinating observations would be more appropriate for bill romenesko's poynter institute site than cbr. i'll shut up now & go back to packing up nascar diecasts (lest i mislead anyone into thinking that i'm still a newspaperman) for the store's ebay customers.
