We are now five years into the new millennium. So look back on Batman. Rate the title, not based on one run or arc, but on all of them combined.

I voted that its quality has been inconsistent.
Larry Hama's run is probably the worst run on any Batman comic that I can think of and caused me to briefly drop this title for a few issues. Brubaker's run was great but was not as good as Brubaker's later runs on Catwoman and Gotham Central, and McDaniel's art did not really match Brubaker's scripts that well. Loeb and Lee's "Hush" had amazing artwork, but I found the plot lacking and anti-climatic. Azzarello and Risso's "Broken City" I also really enjoyed, but I think it would have been better suited as its own miniseries or original graphic novel and seemed out of place in the main Batman title. Willingham's five issues were awful. I have also been less than impressed with Winick's run, mainly for the return of Jason Todd, but have enjoyed Doug Mahnke's artwork. I am really looking forward to James Robinson's story arc and Grant Morrison's run.

For the most part I'll say its been decent . It was really....really good under Leob/Lee because I liked Hush. You can see why a few writers have spun storylines from it.
I rank Hush at being the highlight of the post Batman 2000 era. The lowlight would be " Broken City " which really made me wanna drop the book. I was happy to see Brian Azzarello get 6 issues and no more.
But its been pretty decent I think. DC's kept this book strong since Larry Hama's departure . It did drag and I did drop it for 5 or 6 issues there.

Brian K. Vaughan wrote Batman? I need to hunt those issues down.

Finally, someone else that loved Hush. Despite the plotholes, it was an emotionally engaging, exciting popcorn flick action story.
However, I loved Broken City. It was a dark, noirish take that was perfectly suited to the character. The placement of the arc (between Hush and Winick's As The Crow Flies) was a bit awkward.

I liked it up to Hush... but everything after that has been a dissappointment.

For the most part, good.
BROKEN CITY is my second-favourite Batman story of all-time after YEAR ONE, so that alone makes the decade pretty good.
I love Brubaker, but found his Batman stuff a little underwhelming (with the exception of "The Turning Point," with Sean Phillips, which is one of the best standalone Bruce Wayne stories ever). I didn't care for HUSH. Winick's been decent.

I think that for the most part, it HAS been good. Storylines like Hush and Red Hood have been personally well received. There have been some disappointing issues, and pointless fillers, but overall, I've been happy with it being on my pull list.

I wouldn't mind it if everything after Hush was retconned out of existence. I'm not going to talk about Hush or Winick as I have said everything already.
The less I think of Post-Hush Bat-verse, the better it gets.

I think its beest mostly mediocre to poor, with the occasional solid run (much more frequent pre-Hush

I also enjoyed Hush. Lee is one of the best artists in comics, period. And while the story wasn't necessarily deep, it was a lot of fun. Plus, it made the Riddler a credible villain again, always a good thing.
Winick started out pretty good, but has been steadily losing steam. Can't wait for James Robinson's run. Part One was great.
