This contains some of the spoilers that I believe everyone knows by now. The New Warriors instigate a major supervillian fight and inadvertently causes the destruction of an elementary school. I have read many threads saying how this could be forced or that this should have happened sooner.

I think the main factor in this situation is that the superheroes weren’t trying to stop a robbery or prevent Armageddon when these innocent children were killed. They were trying to film a damn reality show. They were trying to get big ratings for season 2 as Speedball put it. Now they have killed children trying to make a buck.

Do you attack reality T.V.? Do you go after Survivor? That could be possible but the bigger factor is superheroes doing what they want. I’m a parent and I would want to know who is responsible for this. “Night Thrasher. isn’t going to cut it” I want to know who he is so I can go find him…Who the hell is Speedball..that bastard killed my son!!

I feel it would be different if the Avengers were trying to stop Dr. Doom from destroying Kansas and during the battle children are killed.. The Avengers were trying to help and the government and the people would want Doom's head...not the real identity of Spiderwoman...However the New Warriors CAUSED this..they could have called the cops or Shield..instead they quote "wanted higher ratings"

It only makes sense that the government responds to prevent this from happening by having superheroes register. Your thoughts?

It's been said that this incident is definitely what causes CW.

I'm so pissed at how the New Warriors are played as chumps and patsy.

Don't blame Millar for this.Millar simply took what was already happening in the MU and rolled with it.

I don't buy that, but what can you do? At least he's hinted at Alpha Flight may get the A-list treatment. Hinted.

yeah when they got reduced to doing reality shows, that made them chumps and patsies, not what happens in cw.

Eh, I'd say anything involving them post-FabNic made them chumps and patsies. Maybe even a little before he quit, who knows. I remember his work starting to suffer on NW when he was writing 14 different mutie books a month.

But really, the Skolnick stuff, the Faeber stuff, hell, even just the NW being regulated to the background in stuff like Busiek's Avengers, is what turned them into chumps and patsies.

Why don't you "buy that"?It's a fact.New Warriors came out with a mini series where they were filming a reality show. This was far before Mark came along.

I'll say it again: The recent New Warriors series was done as nothing more than a set up as a reasont to kill them. The storyline & the art both turned the New Warriors into chumps. I know, you guys are gonna be all, "Art is a matter of opinion," and all that, but face it: It sold for crap because the story was crap and the art was crap! And now all of us New Warriors fans are paying the price for it!

Yeah the New Warriors are the modern day Defenders. Just a joke team with no real purpose. A Shame really, I loved the series when Bagley and Nicezia were doing it.

And again, Skolnick, Faeber, and years of lack of use turned them into chumps far before the latest series. Really, you think they needed the mini to show them as goofs?

I do, I think they needed something fresh in our minds. Everything you ref'ed was bad also, but those stories were so close (timewise) to the good stuff, that we can almost overlook it.

Yeah the New Warriors are the modern day Defenders. Just a joke team with no real purpose. A Shame really, I loved the series when Bagley and Nicezia were doing it.

Now the ORIGINAL Defenders were the absolute opposite of a joke! They were a sort of "occult" task force, led by the troublesome and problematic Dr. Strange, who handled a lot of messy business that folks like the Avengers and the FF didn't or couldn't. The Defenders did this to no acclaim because they were and still are some of the most unpopular and feared heroes in the Marvel 616 Universe. Only recently has the Defenders been used as "comedy relief" and unfortunately it was Busiek that started this. Busiek's a great writer but even a great writer can pull-off a less than spectacular book.

Read what Steve Gerber did with the Defenders in the 70's. It is mighty.

The New Warriors was originally a good idea too: Marvel's "teen hero" team. Unlike the Defenders though, the New Warriors has had the misfortune to be written on a purely pedestrian level rarely ever with any brilliance.

Also I admit... I for one want to see Marvel undergo a "Crisis on Infinite Earths" of sorts. I know that's an old idea but the 616 is a mess!
